Hahaha! Funny to watch myself performing! I was in the signalplatoon and playing the fielddrums at the front with white bandoliers. This was performed in Oslo Spektrum in Norway september 2004 and was our last performance before we ended our one year military service. The banners or flags you see on the garand rifles represent each of the eight guard companies.

They've gained legend status in Scotland, and won best tattoo several times. saw them when I was a wee romper.

I was with the guard performing at Edinburgh last august. Our goal to achieve "best in show" was constant effort of professionalism and showmanship. We're trained from the moment we are conscripted on focusing on details, precision and excellence, all in the span of a year

HMKG has been performing at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on several occasions. In addition, Edinburgh Zoo cares for their mascot - a king penguin named Nils Olav. He’s a generalmajor and is also knighted.

They are all conscripts by the way. 19/20 year olds.

I was in the kings guard here in Norway but as a soldier. And i can tell you, these guys stod outside in 30+ degrees doing this all day, everyday.

And the bayonettes are very real and very sharp as well.

This is the Oslo Spectrum, at the annual Norwegian Military Tattoo. I have been there a couple of times, and witnessing the skills of the Royal Kings Guard never ceases to amaze me.

Ahh, Gammel Jegermarsj at the end there... As someone who used to play in band as a teen my feet instinctively start hurting when that song starts playing.

I was one of the invited veterans. I really enjoyed the show. It was a very moving moment when 1500f ex soldiers serving in Bosnia had to stand up in front of the thousands of spectatars.

Norway has a strong tradition of marching band music. The way we celebrate Constitution/National Day, 17 May, with children's parades has contributed to many children in the country starting to play in marching bands from an early age. In the very first year they are part of the band, they take part in the parade on 17 May (without playing their instrument) but like the others they have to practice marching. Most of the people who are accepted into the King's Guard probably have a past as marching musicians from an early age, and they have all known the chafing wounds after taking part in several events, from morning to night, on Constitution Day. They therefore offer an advantage that other countries do not have to the same extent.

The flags represent the different companies in the Kings Guard. I was in the second company and our flag was green !
