This is a spoof of Finnish actor Jarmo Mäkinen who made commercials with K-Rauta (think Home Depot) for Sweden. They were on tv aaaall the time for years.

I am Swedish but my mother and all of my grandparents are/were Finnish. And yes, most of my grandparents were drunks, and my paternal grandfather was insanely strong. I don't know if these "stereotypes" are still true with the latest genration[s], but they sure seems to be true for finns born in the early or mid 1900s. I don't quite agree that Swedes are pussies, though, especially in the north.

I love this one, cause I love Nordic banter. It's a parody of a real commerical (oh they showed it at the end, I love that one too). Partaj is pronounced like partai (with a weak R), we don't have that J sound for J, slang for party. He's a really famous comedy actor, done a lot of kid shows.

Idk if most of Partaj's comedy will be that funny for someone who hasn't lived in Sweden. A lot of it is making fun of our celebrities, royal family etc. Tbf, it was a long time ago I saw any of it, and they had a lot of other skits about life in general, but those are the ones I remember the most.

I hope you got it with the comments below. And originally we had a program in 1969 that was named "Partaj" (Partytime) and it was broadcasted in friday evenings with our most beloved swedish actors, before they went to the "Red Room" at Berns Restuarant. This show was sent on the only channel we had back then, and the crew around Johan Petersson that made "Partaj" again is remarkeble, and they really made a tribute to the older version. I really admire them for that contribution. /Magnus

Well - just in case, to clarify the 'situation': the guy you saw last was the original guy in the original commercial (with the same....erhm, first name? It's just too late at night for me..), on which the character in this comedy was based! (Well, which they of course, and as usual took, erhm 'a bit' further - while at the same time making fun of the stereotype of...or well, sterotypeS of both Finnish and Swedish guys really!). I just love this 'character' - as does many of my friends with Finnish ancestry by the way! I hope that helped. Cheers from Sweden.

For context, Sweden and Finland share a very long history together. Finland was a part of the Swedish Kingdom for over 700 years. We have completely different languages however, so this "Jarmo" character speaks Swedish with a stereotypical Finnish accent, which sounds hilarious to Swedes. So it is just friendly banter with a lot of Finnish stereotypes thrown in, the main points being that from the Swedish perspective, all Finns are drunks and likes knives, while from a Finnish perspective, Swedes are weaklings who are a bit too concerned with what others think of them.

This is related to the Finnish stereotypical view of Sweden as shown in this clip kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pt1jmJll2NXXdZs.htmlsi=Xh9t5QlnBHEnJ6Uq This is from a Finnish comedy show. Sweden was neutral during ww2 while Finland took a very hard stance against the Germans. (The neutrality meant that Sweden allowed Germans to use the swedish rail network to transport troops to Norway for example. Not very popular in Norway uou can imagine.)
