The man's been gone for over 30 years, and he STILL continues to raise gooseflesh on the skin and send chills up the spines of young music fans, the world over. Some things just don't grow old and truly NEVER die. Behold, the IMMORTAL Stevie Ray Vaughan!

...young music fans AND old music lovers, too i-- I'm 75. I get chills every time I hear Texas Flood and Voo doo Chile...hot damn. I have most of his cds which I bought in Istanbul, Turkey (teaching English as a 2nd language to young adults 2000-2005.) I first heard Stevie's Pride and Joy in 1997 in a neighborhood tavern. His other music I had to/got to learn how to listen, move one song at a time...until I'm dancing with a basketball in my 60's with SRV through my headphones-- on cassette tapes. I love him and his music. He was a kind and humble man. There are so many stories about people who met him.....

Stevie was absolutely great. But one must also mention Tommy Shannon (bass) and Chris Layton (drums): one of the tightest and most in-the-pocket rhythm sections EVER. Their support of him is one key element of his success.

This was Stevies second appearance on Austin City Limits after about 2 years of being clean and sober. The difference in the man from his first performance is unreal. I think he was better now than before. I often think if all the music we missed out on after his passing. Cherish what he left us.

He came back with the handcuffs off . I was at work digging a ditch when it came on the radio that day he died. I remember I looked at my friend and all I could think to say was at least he died sober . In hindsight I still think that even though it's kind of a strange thought for somebody else . I guess I felt like he had won.

@@BradYaeger I saw an interview with Chris Layton and he said that Stevie would meet someone that said he was an inspiration to them and he would light up and drag them into a corner and talk with them as long as they wanted. I was getting ready for work when the news flashed and had to sit down. It hit me hard.

I’m a 72 guitar player, a SRV fan for 40 years, and I get a kick out of seeing reactions from younger folks discovering his phenomenal playing for the first time. Few play with the skill, passion, and heart that Stevie put into every performance, and it still amazes me watching him after all these years how I never tire of his music. Check out his guitar swap when he breaks a string playing “Look At Little Sister”, I believe it was a clip from Austin City Limits show. Doesn’t miss a lick! Watch all his clips, you won’t be disappointed.

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Austin City Limits, live 81 or 83, Voodoo Child cover the. Greatest blues guitarist and singer, ever! This is a Hendrix cover. Bowie had him play on his Let's dance , album. Then asked him to join his band. SRV turned him down!!😮😮 Greatest guitarist ever!! Died young, leaving the Montreux Jazz Festival, in a terrible helicopter crash. RIP to SRV. U should watch all his Austin City Limits, concerts! Ironically, first time he went to Montreaux, he was booed mercilessly, they felt he wasn't Jazz enough! When he went back in 95, he was treated as the reigning god of the show! And then he died...if u watch just one more of his vids, it should be from this show, Texas Flood! His look, blues voice, guitar ability, showmanship... God purpose built this man to play the Blues! There's been a lot of great guitarists , but combined with his voice, look, presence, voice, showmanship and ability , there's only him.

This is my favorite version of this song (including the Hendrix originals). There are tons of amazing live SRV performances, and he never plays the same songs the same way twice. If you want to hear more SRV but also hear something different, consider the three song set he did for MTV Unplugged. The things he does to that acoustic 12 String are downright criminal. So good.
@roberttaylor5997
@roberttaylor5997 Жыл бұрын
Jimi never played anything the same way twice either, so if you want to compare them you could check out different performances, such as Woodstock and Maui. But whether you want to react to them is a different matter because Jimi reactions tend to get copyrighted, as I expect you know.

Wow, I've never seen that! Thanks! I saw SRV twice and both times he did this "Voodoo Chile" (Real title by the way!) intro and wasn't feeling it so he moved on to other songs. I admit, I was disappointed in the moment, but I instantly got over it once he got into those next songs!

That is Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris Layton on the drum kit, a note on the life of SRV, Stevie slowly became an alcoholic and a cocaine user and over the years it worsen til he finally went to a hospital in London for he was throwing up blood and for the last four years of his life he was clean and sober, and for about 15 minutes at the end of his performance he would talk to the audience about this horrible disease he became an ambassador on becoming drug free for the world...RIP Stevie you've earned it and Stevie never stop playing...

Stevie said he was living on borrowed time now (after his 1986 near death collapse) and lived each minute in a state of gratitude.He was a precious soul.The angels celebrated when he took his place with them. You should really watch "Life Without You" live at the Capitol Theater, NJ 9/21/1985. He wrote that song for his friend who died suddenly. Stevie took his friend's death and made a beautiful tribute song which he was actually afraid to try to sing onstage for fear he wouldn't be able to do it without breaking down.

1:41 11:12 11:46 If you watch his right hand closely you will see him quickly adjusting those round tone and volume knobs with his pinky finger while playing. Nothing is "out of adjustment". It's what he has to do in order to get the sound he wants at that time. That's one of those things that make his sound so recognizable. You could hand his guitar to another accomplished player, playing the same notes but he wouldn't sound like SRV. This was filmed at Austin City Limits studio. They know how to film a performance without the distracting camera shot changes every 5 seconds. If you view a lot of his performances, you can see a BIG difference in his physical appearance here in '89 versus earlier performances. He had a bad time with coke and booze early on and later got sober.

This is a fantastic performance and homage to Jimi Hendrix, who wrote and made this song and style one of his trademarks. Indeed, much of SRV's technique is homage to Hendrix. There will always be a friendly but often heated debate as to who's greater, Hendrix or SRV. I favor Hendrix as the creative force who took electric blues/jazz/rock to an entirely new space beyond any of what came before, and from whose method SRV took inspiration. For great examples of Hendrix's raw power and creativity check out his live versions of Johnny B. Good and all of his live at Monterey performances. SRV is an immaculate and soulful guitar virtuoso but there will never be another Jimi. Now try reviewing SRV's version of Hendrix's "Little Wing."

I just discovered you, very good job. It's the old wives tale says he was born with a guitar, I heard one of his friends said that when he was young he wanted to actually play the drums. But thankfully he's stuck with the guitar that he was born with, and one of his songs never needed vocals because he spoke through his guitar.
