What the Leafs need is depth, since the big contract guys don’t seem to be playoff giants they need value for the dollar, Carter Verhaeghe and Alex Tuch for example make 4.1 mill and 4.75 million, you could have 3 impact players like that instead of 1 big contract Leaf guy. Not one guy took less money, they all wanted short deals to get even more money soon after, they all have no trade clause, what a mess. Matthews should have been 8 years 10 mill per, Marner 9.5 for 8, Nylander 7 for 8 years.

Move Marner for picks and depth. No they don’t need to get a top 6 player for Marner. Domi wants to stay so top line of Domi/Matthews/Knies. Second line of Willy/Tavares/McMann. The problem has never been the top 6 it’s the bottom 6. Mike is so out to lunch on the Marner situation. It’s not about winning that trade. Get cap space to retool through free agency and pieces they can use to make them better at the deadline. There’s no need to galaxy brain this.

Treliving didn't have much time to work with when he was first hired on. I think being here for a full season is gonna make a huge difference. I would give the guy a chance. We really dont have much choice right now. I hear a lot of people criticizing Tre for that Tkachuk trade, but when that trade happened, i don't think there was one person who thought that was a bad deal for Calgary..when your trading a young superstar, your never going to win that trade..but given the situation and Lack of leverage Tre had to work with, he got more than i thought possible in return. A top defencman, a 115 point all star at the time, a 1st round pick and i think a prospect..thats a big haul for a disgruntled player that is NOT going to resign. Man, Canadian hockey media is too relentless. Most of them would never be able to do these guy's jobs. As far as UFA's this year.. I've had my eyes on Brandon Montour for a while now and i wanted Chris Tanev at the trade deadline..maybe start there.

Once again, win the deal. Dude, it’s not happening in the sense you want. Hold on to the player if you are happy wasting the year, or try to trade. If you are looking for skill for skill, that’s not how trades work. Everybody has to be willing to give/take to fit the mold of what you are trying to build.

Both JT and Mitch can still be heroes. Both agree to be traded at deadline. Both come back the following year at massive discounts. 🤣 won’t happen but 1 can dream.

The issue is cost, Nylander is the only guy that took a discount. Matthew's contract was probably OK, but Marner should never have been making that much on the first deal. Why? Now that that deals done where can you go but down. He's not worth anymore than 10 a year for 8 years. Should be 9 I think he doesn't score enough. Now the captain earned his money for the play except maybe this upcoming season, have to see. Regardless, he won't make anything close to that if he stays and moves to 3rd line. 5m max. Reilly is about right in terms of money. Remember the cap stalled because of covid, that hurt. I think Shanahan should stay, and take another run at it. They drafted small with skill instead of skilled and big. Team was just to small as we seen in Marners case this playoff. It's a 100 point team, that's a fact. Have to wait and see. Peace ✌️ 😎

I am not on the trade Marner bandwagon. What needs to happen is Tavares leaves. Yzerman took 13 years to get his first cup and retired with the team. Name the last Leaf star to be drafted and retire with the team. Think about it. Loser franchises trade their stars. Leafs have gone down that road if you want to see what it looks like. Pay attention to the history of the team. Salary management and contracts are on management not the players. The problems with Marner can be fixed with a coach that actually holds players accountable. The entire team failed to generate offense not one player. That is a scapegoat. The rookie coach failed to adapt to opposing coach strategies. He even freaking admitted it when he said the Leafs were playing into what the other coach wanted. The PP failure was just another example of ineptitude of coaching. As was the underperforming roster, the not showing up for games in post season. The bad play against bad teams. Nothing changed because the coach did not do anything. Either the players didn’t listen or it was bad coaching. See a theme here? A better coach could have gotten way more out of this roster. Instead we ran back the same underwhelming underachieving coaching year after year and then supported that with bad goaltending which absolutely sank the team every playoffs when the team actually did play well. It’s infuriating they can’t figure it out. But I am not on the blame Marner garbage which is a load of BS. Entire team stank. Lose every game 7, blow a 3-1 series lead and we keep bringing back the same coach? What did you expect to happen? The only series win required 3 fluky OT goals.
