If you've never played the game, you would know that Ellie killing him is even more sad than happy she escaped. The trauma of having to kill him at such a young age for that reason is absolutely horrific and sad. These writers knew how to get you in the feels so good! 😢😢

Amazing episode, the cast nailed it. Even changing the scene didn't change what this episodes simbolizes: the struggle and the acceptence of Ellie and Joel being a family. I'm pretty sure troy baker was happy acting in this, even though i didn't realize it was him at first.

My mom was asking at the end of the episode, what happened to all the random town people. I know in the game you run across more people after Ellie escapes the cage. My assumption was this was the slaughterhouse away from the town. David said only a few people knew they were cannibals, so they couldn't take a chance and cut up the bodies in the town. That's why only David and Troy Baker's character were there.

Fun fact…..they filmed joel and ellie’s reunion before bella filmed the fire/stabbing scene. Pedro said he didnt know-thats how good her acting was. They just had bella hitting a punching bag before coming out.

I agree. But I still think they should have kept Joel stopping her when Ellie was chopping away. Joel seeing her doing that and trying to calm her down would have added even more to the scene.

@@thec9424 I thought the same way when I watched it, I was kinda mad they changed it. But then I saw a comment that said maybe they changed it to show how Ellie can survive on her own without a doubt, even getting out of the burning building. If Joel died because of the wound, she would've got out of all of it on her own either way. I like that, it means they are together because they want to go through together. Joel could've left her in Jackson and she doesn't really need him, so if they're together is because of something else, they're family now. In the game we have countless hours to get to this, but I like how the show cut through a lot (I mean they have to) and still gave us the same emotion.

@Jwanma I thought that was already shown, considering she had already won the battle on her own. No one thought that Joel saved her in the game. But as it stands in the show, him calling her baby girl would have meant more when the audience knows that he had seen personally what she had done. They even took away Ellie's "He tried to..." luckily, the acting is so amazing that the scene was even better than the game anyway.

And to be honest I LOVED how she can't say anything, how she mumbles out of how traumatized she is. Much better than the "He tried to" of the game. Bella is nailing the show so far

@Jwanma Bella is nailing it. But the "He tried to.." was her too emotionally shook to even say it. That is dialog, not acting. Bella would have pulled that off too. Imo, Joel seeing her chopping a guys head to pieces and having to pull her off and not only not judging her but embracing her more than ever before would have added more to an already near perfect scene. She watched him do some pretty brutal things. Not heard about but watched with her own eyes and responded with fascination and building to understanding, acceptance and at last caring. It was his turn. And his response of more caring than she had received from anyone in forever... Either way, it was amazingly acted and I am satisfied. Both actors have me sold on any future projects.

I’ve never played the game but I’ve always heard good things about it. When the series game out I decided it was a good idea to get in line with the story and watch it. The movie made me want to play the game so I bought both games and played both such a good depiction of a game and the actors knocked it out of the park definitely would recommend

aside from bill and franks story, this episode was THE perfect balance of light and dark. Bella did a phenomenal job at showing her strength and vulnerability, when Joel catches her and says I got you baby girl omg I was sobbing. Ashley and Bella are perfect for Ellie.

One one hand, it's supremely gratifying to see such a monstrous bastard meet a satisfying end at the hands of his would-be victim, but on the other hand it's horrifying to see a not even 15-year-old girl turn into a screaming animal and hack another human being to pieces.

@MothmansAss the Show is showing us, from a character development aspect, that her Aggression was always there; it just hadn't properly manifested yet. The Game couldn't do that fully because the whole Game Story wasn't even thought of yet. HBO has the luxury of knowing the Full Scope of Part II AND of Ellie's Overall Character so of course her Rage would be expanded upon

Why do you have to react to THEIR reactions… it just makes the whole compilation awkward to watch because you’re sitting there staring the whole time barely saying anything. I’m sorry but I can’t help but feel like these would be infinitely better if they were just simple compilations.
