*Sigh* Whenever I watch international reactors react to just right they always mention that *"taking off the glasses defeats the message of the song"* but none of them gets that *the glasses are just frames and don't really have lenses on them*. We asians use glasses without lenses because the frames makes our eyes look a little bigger because it fill up the empty spaces on our faces. Soooo basically when she takes off her glasses she's saying she now understands that her facial features are *just right* and she doesn't have to conform with what society thinks is pretty. Soooo on the contrary the taking off the glasses part actually goes along with the message of the song.

It's really not international reactors' fault for not knowing other cultures. It is much more of a common concept that taking off glasses=beautiful makeover. Even as an Asian myself, I wasn't aware until I saw other comments explaining because I live in the USA and "glasses being taken off" is used a lot for beautiful makeover in entertainment mediums.

I completely get what youre saying but it might be good to add that it isnt necessarily 'more common', just the western expectation. Those in a lot of other countries wouldnt see it that way, its kind of the same where im from though there isnt really any given meaning to it. Its just good for people to try to keep cultural differences in mind :)

I can actually relate( even though I'm Hispanic and not Asian) because I use glasses to cover my face since people say I look better with glasses on than off(something about how my eyes look I think.). When I don't have glasses on I feel like I look weird now but I have to live with the way I look but what's funny is now I actually have to wear glasses because apparently I can't see so I have to start wearing prescription glasses😂🤣.

This is random, but I noticed in most of their reactions they always expect something to have a certain formula. Like the drop wasn’t big enough or something? But not every song needs to have a big beat drop. That’s why I’ve always liked Got7. They’ve always gone out of ppls comfort zones with music and give a new catchy beat that doesn’t fit a “formula”

grace eubank they aren’t talking abt a formula but just how it builds up with the vocal chords going up etc, and a drop would’ve been good, but it kinda disappointed them without a drop because the buildup made them expect a good drop

Well that's why they bring it up. At some point songs have followed a specific formula. Which is why there is a verse then chorus then a new verse and chorus. So them bringing up the expected drop but it not being super strong shows that there was a formula to follow but not always executed. It's not a bad thing. I think it helps define the differences of songs.

Nah, I bet musicians are taught to think that way. The video is "musicians react" so they react in the way they are supposed to, like... trying to analyze the song's structure or formula or whatever and trying to explain it to the audience. You know... not just saying "I liked it" while jamming to it, cause that's what a non-musician (me) would do.

Note on the glasses: In Korea, if they feel ugly or if they aren't wearing makeup, they wear glasses to look cute/hide their no make up face. so taking off glasses to accept who you are is actually is a good thing. like, you don't need to hide behind those glasses kind of message.

IM GONNA EXPLAIN THE GLASSES THING BECAUSE IT USED TO CONFUSE ME TOO. OKAY SO, IN KOREA GLASSES, ESPECIALLY THOSE KIND OF HARRY POTTER GLASSES, ARE USED TO MAKE KOREAN EYES LOOK BIGGER WHICH IS A KOREAN AESTHETIC and i need to chill with the caps lock but basically yeah. It's a thing for Korean beauty, a lot of people use it if they feel like their eyes are too small and taking it off actually shows that you're comfortable with your eye shape. :)))

Selin Pinardag Thank you for explaing it. For a long time it was making me angry. Like: "Why are they telling her she looks just right, but make her put down the glasses?!" Now I understand. In many movies/videos/... they make someone beautiful and as a part of the change they take of their glasses as if it's something bad, but here it's not this case. I am not mad anymore. Thanks :-)

I like that they actually know what they're talking about musically. Their criticisms and praises were genuine and not staged to please an audience. They pointed out some interesting aspects of the songs that I didn't notice when listening to those songs myself (and I'm also a classical musician). I can't wait to go to watch your other reactions 😭

Actually the whole thing with the glasses is that the little girl was using them as a way of covering up her face and she took them off because she didn't feel like she needed to hide anymore.

ZoeDucky yeah, plus in South Korea it seems to be a thing to have a smaller face, so if you wear glasses, your face looks smaller (or that's what I have seen in videos of Korean celebrities saying why they wear glasses)

I always got that she didn't need the glasses because she didn't care about what she looked like anymore so she didn't need to see as clear since the only thing she was looking at was her appearance and that she was only seeing negative. I see where they're coming from though, even though GOT7 is one of my top 3 favorite groups of all time, doesn't mean any of the negative opinions aren't of any value. It's true that their titles haven't been the most melodically diverse, but the reactors also didn't see a lot of other aspects that fans would see (choreo, behind the scenes, live performances, etc), so their opinions are strictly based off of whatever they see in these music videos. Plus they don't say their opinions in a way that undermines the group at all, so thank you guys for your honest reactions!

You're right. GOT7 is my favorite artist and when i first watched they're MV (which was the song "A") in march or april 2015, it was cool but i wasnt very impressed, but when i got to see them in other stuff, i quickly got drawn in and became a fan

Totally agree unfortunately. I love them so much for who they are and I jam out to their albums asf but I have to admit that their music isn't technically (as they analyze it) amazing. But I do feel like it's only a matter of time before they get/write a really good song and make it big in Korea. I also wish they would react to one of their slow songs that one of the members was involved in composing because their title tracks are all written by other people so far ^^

I'm actually a new fan & I got into Got7 first not for their music--their promotional tracks never really did it for me at first, until I saw If You Do and Fly (Fly is my favorite from them). And it's honestly so refreshing to see this kind of criticism towards their music, bcuz I've always been frustrated with how their promo tracks have been produced, either kinda one-dimensional or too many attempts at being varied (i.e. Just Right, Hard Carry, & Never Ever), which I think up until this point muddles the genre or style that Got7 is really aiming for. Their albums have better tracks IMHO, especially those written & composed by the boys themselves (i.e. My Home, Home Run, No Jam, Paradise, etc). Nonetheless, I think what made me appreciate abt this video is how they delved into the boys' vocals and rapping. Honestly, Got7 gets so much flak for being a "so-so" group, but I think it's only because their singing and harmonization tend to be overlooked. I also think Got7's rappers are strong and has good flow; their rap parts aren't awkward at all. Lastly, I really appreciated it when they commented that the songs are an "easy listen" which can be quite a positive thing these days, especially given K-Pop's aggressiveness towards sound/beat experimentation.

All I want is for someone to show the "Just Right" video to people, and then ACTUALLY EXPLAIN THE MEANING BEHIND THE REMOVAL OF THE GLASSES!! In Korea, people obsess over having a small face because they think it's more beautiful, so people always wear wide-rimmed fake glasses to make their faces look smaller (if you look carefully, you'll see that her glasses don't have any lenses, meaning they were for fashion and not for vision purposes). So the girl taking off her glasses was not nerd shaming like it would be in Western countries, it was actually about accepting your natural physical features.

That's why even the idols who actually do need glasses outside of stylistic purposes don't wear them in most broadcasts. Examples of this include D.O. from Exo and Jungkook from BTS.

hugo might've had the misunderstanding, but what i like about just right (although i don't really care for the tune of the song) is that the girl taking off her glasses kind of signifies her stopping being embarrassed by hiding her face and hiding behind glasses. there are cultural differences that separate her action from the western trope of "when the girl removes her glasses she becomes pretty™". this is also evident in an episode of hello counselor, where i think jimin and jin from bts guest starred. there was a very shy and anxious girl who always hid behind glasses and/or a mask (even though the glasses were not prescription) because she felt that she had to hide, and she didn't feel confident in her face or her self esteem. so, that is what got7 portrayed in the video when the girl took off her glasses because they didn't want her to hide and be sad, but let go and live happily. hope this made sense :)

I kinda feel like they didn't give enough weight to the meaning of If You Do but it's just as important as the message for Just Right - it's talking about an abusive relationship where the boyfriend is the victim and the girlfriend is the abuser, which is something that happens way more often than gets talked about and very often isn't taken seriously like it should be
