Thank you all for embracing this exploration of Arendt’s 1963 work of non-fiction. Please let me know how the opening two chapters have sat with you! I hope I approached the book with a maturity and a delicacy befitting to its subject matter.

Delicate subject. I have always been fascinated, reading about the Holocaust, was fascinated by the various memorials when I visited Berlin a few years back. I have never read this book, but I did watch a few of the recordings of the trial. Chilling and bizarre. This makes me want to get the book, however.

Firstly, thanks for hosting this and getting me to actually read this book, which has been lurking on my TBR for too long. So far, so fascinating - Arendt’s style is compelling as are the events she relates. I know the book created controversy although we’re probably not at that point yet, but I’m interested to see how her thoughts develop.

I have heard about this book for years and have never read it. I wish I could join the read along. I just have too much going on right now. But I appreciate your reporting on it. So upsetting but necessary! I don’t know British politics but here in the states right now it is the progressive left that most tracks with anti semitism currently. We do have far right nazis too but right now they aren’t controlling the social media narrative.

Thank you, Joe. I've gone down an _enormous_ rabbit hole while reading this book, and I promise to make my own video sometime soon. We have different perspectives on a few issues you mention, and I'll mention one now. You question the splitting of criminal action and the impact of that action on victims and survivors. Theoretically, what if some of the victims didn't have families, didn't have favorite books or films, etc. (all of which you mention to highlight their humanity). Indeed, what if a couple of them were suicidal? Would that make Eichmann's actions any less evil? Would your answer differ if he was aware or unaware of their suicidality?

Hi Hannah, Good to hear that you will review this book as well. I hope to post a video for this read along soon. I guess Joe will agree that the edge cases do of minimise the evil in the slightest. Happy reading! (of all the more pleasant literature)
