It's encouraging to hear that I'm not the only mom whose read aloud experience changes over time and in different seasons. It doesn't mean I'm doing anything wrong, it's just part of the flow of life...

I would love to see how you teach life skills. Is there a curriculum you follow? I don’t homeschool but would love to try this with my kids.

The family under the bridge is a book that’s always on my list and I forget about it every winter. I need to put it on the list this year and actually do it.

We are reading Burgess Birds, Animals and Seashore, paired with CM Simple Studies, for science next year. I’m very excited, especially after hearing that you loved Burgess Birds so much!

I read Thornton Burgess Animals book for my son’s science in the first half of the school year. We love his storybooks and this was a win for us. I’ll be looking for the Bird book and the Seashore one as well!!❤

Definitely the seashore book! I wish we lived by the ocean like you guys so my kids could see it. Since we are land locked, it's such a great resource to feel like you are experiencing being by the ocean. I LOVE all the Burgess books I've read! We need to do those again

Ooo, I just picked up the Burgess Bird Book for next year. Hopefully my kids like it as well! We're in a season where I'm relying on audiobooks for the majority of our read-alouds. Our stand-out stories this year were the Heartwood Hotel series and the Wild Robot series. My middle child is very picky in what he likes to listen to, and those were the only stories he was actually excited to hear.

We are reading our island story as a family and my kids LOVE it. We go back and forth between me reading it and audiobook. I personally as a mom have been enjoying reading madam how and lady why to my ten year old. It’s definitely harder for him to understand but I love it. 🤣 My husband reads to my kids at night and they loved Mrs piggle wiggle and five children and it! My hubby said he enjoyed reading those too because they have lots of little lessons and it’s just entertaining the way they speak in the books.

Faith at how to faith a life is awesome if you don’t follow her. She’s so helpful on how to study the Bible! She also mentioned that book and I’m reading it now. Love how you interact with your older kids. It’s so encouraging and I look forward to those special times with my kids when they get older. Faith has taught me so much and love the materials she shares.

We just finished the Burgess Seashore book. My kids (6-11) loved it. My 11 year old son was particularly sad when we finished the book because he enjoyed it so much.

Our favorite this year was The Hiding Place by Corie Ten Boom. What a testimony and trial that family went through.

The Family Under the Bridge was a favorite when we read it as well. It's always a bummer when a book is a total flop but it happens, yay for a documentary to redeem it a little LOL

I remember trying to read Kon Tiki and I just couldn't do it either. We've had a rough read-aloud year. The Celts and All That and The Golden Hawks of Genghis Khan were 2 we did like though.
