Hi! In this Duolingo English Test practice video, we take a look at the "Read aloud" speaking task.
This speaking task is surprisingly challenging, but I have some useful tips to help you get a better score.
Make sure you answer the questions at the end and write your answer in the comments.

The Duolingo English test is the newest English proficiency test available for English students to take in order to get an official English score. You usually need to take a test like the Duolingo English test before applying for universities and colleges.
This new Duolingo English test is made specifically for those who need to get an official English score to study at a university or college. It’s similar to the IELTS and TOEFL; however, even though this test is quite new, it is accepted by a lot of universities around the world. You can go to their website to find out whether the university you want to attend to accepts the Duolingo English test or not.

I would like to express my happiness to teacher Luke! You’re such a great human being, may your surroundings blessed you well. I’ve studied for the past two weeks by just watching all of your videos! (LITERALLY ALL OF THEM😋) I’ve got the 135 overall score - Literacy (140) - Comprehension (135) - Conversation (135) - Production (140) Although I was kind of scared about the scores but I guess it’s more than enought than what I’ve expected! Special thanks to you Teacher Luke, you guided us so well, specifically on the production section that people usually find kind of difficult (but I guess I managed to get a sufficient 140 score for it). I know my comment is too long, but I do hoped that people that were enrolling to this exam to be relaxed but prepared at the same time. In addition to Teacher Luke, you are a true hero for us! Keep doing this! You never know how people are so grateful for what you’ve create.

Hie teacher Luke, i came back to say thank you for your tips and practice material. I practiced using your videos for just 4 days then i went to write the test. Hi, thank you for your great videos. I got my test results back in less than 30 hours and scored 140. For all of those wondering, you can practice these sentences out loud before hitting the record button (at least that's what I did and I got certified).

Hey, I don't think it is necessary, but yes you can. However, if you don't feel comfortable doing that, just use the contractions when they are written down. 👍

Hi Luke, thank you for all the videos! Is it necessary to contract? Because I thought I had to read exactly as the sentence is written, so if it is long-form, I read it in long-form and if it is in the contracted form, I read it in the contracted form. Also, I noticed in some listen and type exercises that the recording was in long-form, but you gave the answer in the contracted form or vice versa the recording was in the contracted form, but you gave the answer in long-form. So, whenever I have the chance to contract, should I contract? Thank you in advance! :D

Yeah it does feel awkward at first. I think the best thing to overcome this is just to practice speaking to yourself and taking the practice test a lot of times. 😀

Hi, it's hard for me to give specific advice because I don't know your strengths and weaknesses. However, most students struggle with the production questions (speaking and writing), so I suggest you practice those the most. Good luck on the test!

Hey! Good question! I don't think you will lose points if it is written in its full form as long as you do include other features of English pronunciation such as intonation, stress, and correct pronunciation of the phonemes. 😃👍
