This took me a while to understand so here’s my findings (though this comment is mainly to help me clarify what I’ve found): Each spectator is allocated a specific keycard (2h, 4h etc.) plus their own card in their allocated deck of 5. They shuffle their individual decks, which doesn’t matter. All that matters is that the keycard and the allocated card remain in the same group of 5 when the cards are packed together again into the deck of 25. Next, the first 5 cards (ie, the first group) are put onto the table in five separate piles - each card peeled off the top and going to a different pile than all of the cards in that top pack of 5. The trick here is that the keycard and allocated card travel to different piles and thus end up on the same level: in this case, the bottom. Then, the second group (whichever that happens to be), which contains its own keycard and allocated card, is laid out on the second level, and so on. Thus, the keycard and allocated card will always be on the same level within the final 5 decks of 5. Cutting the deck shouldn’t work because it may cause a keycard and it’s allocated card to be more than 5 cards apart, thus putting them on different levels when the new piles of 5 are made. This is a genius trick. It doesn’t matter where the keycards are in the first five decks (the don’t have to be on the bottom) and it doesn’t matter which card the spectator picks or how it’s shuffled. The information comes from the cross examination when the spectator points to which deck their card is in. You don’t even have to have particular keycards - any cards from the individual’s deck of 5 will do, so long as the group remains particular to that individual, and the keycard and allocated card are kept in the same group

A common mistake is at 3:55 Make sure you stack the piles with one hand by putting one on top of the next and then pick them up as you go. So put 1 on top of 3 then take the 1,3 pile and put it on top of 4. Then take the 1,3,4 pile and put it on top of 2, then take the 1,3,4,2 pile and put it on top of 5. If you put pile 1 on top of 2 and then pile 3 on top of 4 you are doing it wrong. Hope this helps.

The working method behind this trick doesn't require that how one picked and stacked the piles, just to ensure that the all cards of a plie have to remain together while picking & stacking them and not to get mixed with other piles.

If you're going to do the trick it helps to understand it. Here's a simple analogous example: You ask the person to choose any square from the 5th row on a chess board. You 'shuffle' the board by turning it to the right and ask: "Which row is your square in?". If he says the second then his square is 2nd row 5th column. It's the same with the cards. The first deal of cards is the regular chessboard, the second deal of cards is the turned-right chessboard. The person's giving you both coordinates without even knowing about it!

@youflunkeddaycare
@youflunkeddaycare 6 жыл бұрын
Daniel Tíjaro he did at the very end. Since it’s the fourth spectator, your key card is the eight of hearts. At the end of the trick you are looking for the location of the eight of hearts to find their card. If they choose any other pile, their card is in the same location at the eight of hearts in its pile. If they choose the pile the eight of hearts is in, their card is the one in the same location as the eight of hearts in that pile (aka the eight of hearts).

I fumbled with this trick for an hour (not working) until I realized that you MUST give spectator 1 the pile with the 2H, then spectator 2 the pile with the 4H, and so on. So you have to remember which pile contains which key card. If you are only doing it with two people and you allow them to pick which stack they want, you have to watch them pick and if they pick the stack you know contains the 8H, the 8H becomes their key card. This fact is not made clear at all in this tutorial!

I don't think it was heavily enough stressed that each spectator must take THEIR pile (spec 1 must take the pile with 2h, spec 2 must take the pile with 4h etc) otherwise this trick breaks badly. You CAN allow free choice of piles at the beginning but then you must mentally change the key card order. As they pick the piles I just chant the new order in my head ( i.e 8, 4, 10 , 2, 6... or whatever) Anyway, Im new to card magic so maybe all this was apparent to everyone else and I am just stating the obvious.

It's not too obvious for the magician to simply hand out the packets of 5 cards to consecutive audience members without raising suspicion. After all, they are then mixing the cards, and you're stacking them randomly and then randomly sorting, stacking, and even cutting for good measure. The randomness totally eliminates any suspicion that might arise from handing out the packets in consecutive order.

I've performed this trick many times and it's undoubtedly a mind-blower for the spectators. I use a mix of suits for the key cards (just for my own peace of mind) and I let the spectators shuffle the deck first - obviously that requires some sleight but it's easy stuff if you have some basic card handling skills. This way the trick is 100% clean. I also point out that the odds of guessing all five cards are 1 in 3125

You MUST get spectators to choose in order (not explained in tutorial) ie. pile 1 needs to correspond with key card 2. Pile 2 needs to correspond with key card 4. Pile 3 needs key card 6 and so on.. this is essential. In other words, you need to direct your spectators to their pile (no problem, doesn't detract from trick), this is because at the end when you're searching for their card in the pile they have chosen, you start with key card 2 for pile 1, then key card 4 for pile 2 etc. It CAN be done with spectators at the start choosing their pile randomly, example: spectator chooses first pile (with key card 6) this becomes pile 1... at the end you need to start your order from key 6 and then pile 2 corresponds to the next random key card pile they chose, and you HAVE to remember that order!! A LOT more difficult!!!! I hope this saves a lot of people getting frustrated if this trick is not working for you

Explanation of Self working Maths Card Magic p.s. This is a Clock arithmetic modulus 5 mathematics card trick 1. Distributes 5 cards EACH to 5 small decks, total 25 cards 2. Memories any card from each deck (this is the tag position card) 3. Ask the 5 spectator to choose 1 card from each stack but don't take it out and memories it 4. Ask the 5 spectator to shuffle the deck as much as they like(doesn't matter, we only interested in the 'tagged position card') 5. Ask the spectators which deck they like to pick up, any order as they wish(doesn't matter too, we only interested in the 'tagged position card') 6. Distributes 5 cards each to 5 small decks again(now each card is in their position, X position + tagged card & X position + chosen card) 7. Once again, ask the spectators the order they wish to pick up the deck, DO NOT Shuffle!(doesn't matter, 'tagged position card' is now link to their chosen card) 8. After picked up all decks in 1 pile, ask the soectators to cut the pile of deck(doesn't matter how many times they've cut, BUT ALWAYS put them together before next cut, so the cards interval/position remains 5) 9. The trick is ready to perform, all you have to do now is to distribute every 5 cards into a small deck. If you have a reasonable memory you can elevate this already awesome trick into a miracle. Give the deck out to a spectator and let THEM thoroughly shuffle it at the start. Then ask them to deal 5 packs of 5. Nobody is in any doubt now that the cards are totally random. I spread the 5 packs face up and then simple remember 1 card from each pack 'in order'. I tend to choose red cards in ascending sequence (I can still choose which pack to give to spectator 1,2,3,4,5 at this point remember, so I can ensure they get picked form the packs in my required order). It's a breeze and leaves people totally gobsmacked.
@aquapony
@aquapony 9 жыл бұрын
***** I just meant that you need to know a card from packet 1, a card from packet 2, a card from packet 3 etc.. 1. Spectator shuffles cards 2. They or you can deal 5 packets of 5 cards face up 3. Patter briefly about how random the packs are and meanwhile mentally pick a card from each packet to remember. You just need one card from each packet and it can be any card. You must remember which card is from which packet, so I just get them into my head in the same sequence as I am going to give the packets out. I will choose the lowest red card I see, then the next lowest that is in a different packet, then the next lowest that is in one of the remaining 3 packets, and so on. Occasionally a packet will have all black cards, but you can always use black instead of red, or just be creative and use your own method. Often there is only one red card of each number, so you don't even need to remember suits. You might just need to remember a sequence of 5 values like 3,7,8,T,Q. If there's a diamond and a heart use the diamond always. It's much easier than it sounds here! 4. In the above example make sure you give spectator 1 the pile with the 3 and ask them to shuffle it, think of one of the cards, and put the packet face down. Give spectator 2 the pile with the 7 etc... 5. Now you know a key card in each of the spectator's piles, just like in the video, only this way they can do the shuffling, completely removing any suspicion of a fixed set of packets. 6. Just carry on as in the video and it all works. At the end look for which position the red 3 occupies in its pile, ask spectator 1 which pile their card is in and it will occupy the same position in that pile as the 3 does in its pile. Spectator 2's card will be in the same position as the 7 is in its pile. If they indicate the same pile as the current key card then obviously their card IS the key card. It's pretty mind blowing.

I prefer your method over his since there is no setup. Another way to do this is to have them shuffle then you take out 25 cards. You can fan them out to show that they are in random order. While you’re fanning them out you can memorize the top 5 cards in order. Then deal the 5 piles.

LOL - I do this exactly as aquapony but instead of ascending cards that are red, I use CHaSeD order and remember 1 card from each 5 pack of cards by value alone. No I only have to focus on the Value, since I know the suits by pattern. Great Minds think like a flock together. - So funny, We all developed a more impossible impromptu way of performing this amazing effect and are methods all vary slightly.

aquapony Couldn’t we also just not have any key cards but just collect the cards (with the shuffling of individual packets of 5) in the order of people around you. Instead of having the cards, person on your left is person 1, then next person is person 2. Etc. You can collect the cards in reverse order. Then when repealing face up, you know without having to find any key cards, the card the spectator selected when they reveal the pile. Person 1 when they point to the 3D pile will have the card in the one spot. Or person 2 in the second spot. This is how I had been doing it for years. It’s more impromptu and in some ways seems fairer but you do need to collect the piles in a certain order. Rather than randomly.

@@d_e_a_n Of course, no "key" cards are required, because they are all "key" cards. This is an old forgotten trick to locate the "criss-cross" card, which we did as young children. It is enough (as you say) that the 1st player from the left gets the 1st package from the left. 2nd player from the left 2nd deck from the left, etc. Once he returns the cards to the table in the same order, only you must collect them. If you collect them from left to right, all fans will always have the last card of the first player. The penultimate card of the second player, etc. If you collect them from right to left, all fans will always have the first card of the first player, the second card of the second player, etc. If this is done with a "key" card, this is exactly the same others, because players are allowed to turn cards in any order, or collect them in any order from the table, which a player can do. It is also possible to perform shuffling to preserve 5th card blocks. As a result, it looks like player number 5 can have his cards in 3rd place in all fans. This is a big disadvantage that even the "key" card method puts the card in the same positions in all 5 fans. Many years ago a magician tried it on me, but he didn't know that I was a magician and that I could remember the 5 cards I had in my hand by a simple key. Even though I was the number 4 player and thanks to the "key" card, all of my 5th cards came second in all fans, I revealed the classic criss-cross trick. I advised him not to put the cards on the table at the last stage, but to put five pieces in their hands so that they were once in the original order and again in the reverse order. When searching for a card it is necessary to count the opposite ones from the other side. A player who knows his five cards will find out that he has two cards in second positions in two fans and three cards in penultimate positions in three fans. That confuses him enough, because this is how we induced him more entropy. I would recommend the same if we do not use "key" cards, but only arrange players. Sorry for google translation.

This is a really good one. For my key cards I use a card from each suit in the chased order. So I use the 2 of clubs, 4 of hearts, 6 of spades, and since you need 5 key cards I use the 8 and 10 of diamonds. if a spectator choose 2 of hearts .. .. it is in the same pile with 8 of hearts so how we would get to know about the card that the spectator choose
@aldoearredondo3943
@aldoearredondo3943 4 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't even know if you're active anymore on KZfaq after 6 years, but I have an explanation. At the start of the trick, you had spectator #1 choose a card. Then spectator #2, so on and so forth. You have to reveal the cards in the same order you asked them to memorize them. For example, if you asked John to memorize a card first, you have to reveal John's card at the reveal. If they point to the pile with a key card (2 of hearts), then that's how you know that they chose the 2 of hearts.

This is one of those card effects that deal with mathematics. One have to have a high IQ of math to really know how it works exactly. I do some other card effects of the natural. I don't even know how or better yet, why it and others like it works. It's like the 21 card trick. It you haven't seen it, google it. Then just when I thought that the 21 card trick couldn't get any better, Bill Malone does a version better than the original 21 card trick. It is totally baffling. Again mathematics is good to add to tricks because most people doesn't have the skills of math to figure out the method. all I know is that when learning such tricks, just follow the steps directed and all will be fine in the end. Of course presentation and showmanship plays a big part in making the trick spectacular. Even the easy ones. The powerful part about such mind reading tricks is that the chosen card is a mystery, even to the performer up until the dirty work is done! The 21 card trick is what I do first for people and then follow up with "Read Five Minds At Once." I have the key card in "Five Minds...." already set up on top of the deck. But when I begin the 21 card trick, I deal the cards from the deck face up. Or I run through the deck and remove 21 cards without disturbing the set up top face don cards for the 'Read Five Minds..." trick. After the "21 card trick," of reading one person's mind. I say, "Lets take it a step further. I want to try my hand at reading five minds. I'll do exactly same thing, but just a little bit different." Then I go into, "Read Five Minds..." trick as the two effects roll into a routine and makes a great finale! Watch the video(s) again and again until you get a good feel for the ideal of how the effect runs. Don't just learn a trick and do it. Put work into it to make it more than a trick. But something entertaining. How do you do this...? Watch others do the trick and see there showmanship and presentation. How they work the audience and what they say and how they say things. How they jester and so-on. See how natural they look and sound. Pick up on these things and then make them your own by adding yourself into the trick, using your own character or personality when performing! It won't come all at once, so be patient. We will chat more on this subject later. Keep the magic alive!

Check out Matt Parker's mathematic card effects tutorials. One effect that I want you to see is the, "27 card Trick." Because it is one of those mathematic effects where you know why the effect works, unlike the. "21 Card Trick," where you don't know why the effect works but by following the steps in the, "21 Card Trick," the effect pays off in the end. What I want you to do is start training yourself to study how learned master magicians, (if you are not already there yet or have a knowledge and the skills), of how such effects can be pulled off with great impact. Start developing your skills by learning how to deliver your patter, personality, manner, eye contact, relaxing under fire, smoothness... all this falls under your showmanship as a performer. This makes your presentation a performance piece. Not just another trick. But something that people will remember and wonder about. Now, Matt's tutorial is one where you really have to pay attention to and follow to understand why and how the trick works. Mismag822 also gives a tutorial of the, '27 Card Trick," which may help you understand the working of the effect. The internet is full of information about magic. Remember, it's not about giving away the secrets of magic. But sharing the knowledge of magic and passing it on. Don't let the knowledge die with you. Don't worry about reveals. If someone really wants to know secrets of magic they have to make an effort to get it. So, my friend. Make an effort and become the best magician that you can be. That is your driving effort!

I discovered a shorter version of this that I didn't think would work but time and time again it amazed me by working. The idea of having to write the 5 numbers down was turning me off. I tried it with 3 key cards plus 6 cards for 3 piles of 3 and it works similar to here where you used 5 key cards plus 20 for 5 piles of 5. I think the 3 piles of 3 some will find better because 1) a spectator (or magician practicing) can easily remember 3 selected cards whereas memorizing 5 cards, not so much. 2) 25 cards was getting messy. 9 cards is a more compact trick. 3) The 3x3 method allows them to deal down face up immediately after chosen their card and no matter where they put cards, so long as they take turns putting a card on each pile before adding to the next, it will always key the Magician to the correct 3 cards.

every group of five cards is dealt in the same position. for example the 5 cards in the frist pile will be in the end the five cards on third (or frist, or second, ecc...)position in each group
