This video will cover how to cope with a reading comprehension [RC] passage when you have only a few minutes left on the clock. I will undertake two official practice sets of questions, one set under normal time and one set under extreme time pressure.
I offer private GRE / GMAT tutoring online at a fixed rate of $140/hr. Please get in touch via the email below, or through my tutoring website: www.gretutorlo...
Enquiries: philip@gretutorlondon.com
The Official ETS GRE questions will be of medium to hard difficulty but are applicable also to GRE, TOEFL and GMAT.
Attempt the questions yourself, through critical engagement, predicting answers, stopping-and-summarising and appreciating the tone of the author, or sit back, relax, and see me work away against the clock! Time management will be crucial, and the lessons should be applicable across Verbal Reasoning, not just for Reading Comprehension.
The GRE and GMAT are two of most used graduate exams for those seeking to study a Masters Degree or Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree. The Graduate Record Exam and Graduate Management Admissions Test have been taken for over 50 years and are taken by approximately 600,000 and 300,000 people worldwide annually, respectively. These exams are typically taken between the ages of 18-40, by those who have completed, or are about to complete, their Bachelors Degree.

Conclusion: In order to excel RCs, : 1. Consider every passage to be interesting. 2. Practice-Practice-Practice 3. When under time constraint, try skipping irrelevant stuff but never make the mistake of considering a passage to be boring.

Just a few minutes back I took a practice test in gre for verbal before watching this video and scored in the range of 160-165 . i was really bad in timing myself . i felt like i was taking too much time or worrying too much about the answer choices i had made. I then realized i was taking too much time with my RC's as well . I was just thinking about coming here and looking for help and i find this video!!! Your just spot on!! I haven't even finished watching the video yet BUT i had to like it and comment this right away! You're the best!! PS: maybe this could help someone while taking the test: my order of taking the (verbal section) test is as follows: 1. Sentence equivalence 2. Single blank Text completion 3. Double blank Text completion 4. Reading comprehension 5. Triple blank Text completion idk if this is the most efficient way but it kinda words for me. and i hope it helps for anyone of u too! Sir , whats ur take on this? any suggestions?

Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment Sreevidya. I would say it depends a lot on what score you are aiming for. At the highest end, 165-170, you should just answer every question as it comes and adjust speed accordingly if you fall behind. For those aiming at 160-165, you can guess a few, and then I would agree the triple blanks or long RC are best.

My strategy goes something like this. I do the SE first. Then do the RC passages, warming up with a short passage and immediately tackling the longest one. I skip CR questions and try to complete all RCs. Then I do the text completions. And then CR questions. I tend to get stressed and lose focus as the time winds down, so I complete RC immediately. SE first to boost confidence. Text completion towards the end cuz I'll otherwise spend too much time on it.

Hi Philip, Thanks for the taking the time to actually solving it and posting it. Really helps solidify the benchmark for reading comprehension questions. Very rarely tutors would test themselves in front of a huge crowd. Super-useful stuff. Gives the confidence. I'm preparing for GMAT now and I want to know how many OG RC questions would I need to solve before I reach your level? This would be help me estimate my effort.

hi phillip! thank you so much for your awesome videos. Those videos really help me a lot for my gmat preparation. i'm having my exam tomorrow and still anxious abt verbal in general cause i'm a non-native english speaker. most of times, i run out of time in my verbal section (about 3-4 questions) and ended up choosing anything that makes sense. will definitely try to use this trick! anyway, I just want to comment not bcs of algorithm but because i'm truly grateful for your cool videos. :) keep up the good work!
