The problem with that series is its really two separate trilogies with the same characters. So the vast knowledge gap is hilarious

I think of Mortal Instruments as two trilogies Cus most things wrap up in book three and it starts a new “arc” in book four so that could be why that happened?

This is so chaotic I love it. When I was younger I actually used to sometimes start series at book two or three if the library or bookstore didn't have the first one because I was terrible at being patient.

Love this review! City of Bones is a guilty pleasure for me. I was obsessed with it when I was 13. I enjoy it a lot but if people ask me if it’s good, I genuinely don’t have an answer since it’s so nostalgic for me 😅

What a fun and chaotic idea for a series! The first book of TMI is... rough. Lol I do love so many of her books though, especially The Infernal Devices. I think she wasn't quite ready to be published at the beginning but definitely learned as she went.

Lol I love this I wouldn’t mind if you did this again maybe with a trilogy so the gap of knowledge is only one book. It might not be that bad for you. But as a viewer I love this series it’s supper funny to see someone be completely confused about a series you read and understand.

Do a series where you read chapter 1 - 3 - 5 - 7- etc so uneven first and go back to read all the even chapters after you finished it the first time. I have seen someone do this and the confussion in round 1 and OH moments in round 2 where really funny

100% Mortal Instruments is Cassie Clare's worst series 😅 I'd recommend the Infernal Devices if you're looking at picking up any more of her books.

having skipped books 3-6 myself and then later picked up the first Infernal Devices book on a whim....I disagree. While there are some new ideas introduced, It's still set in the same world and deals with a lot of the fallout/backstory context of the original series, so just like Gavin, I was very lost on a lot of the importance of certain plot points, and the ones I knew were only bc I had read the first two books initially, and by the time I finished the book, I also felt like I didn't care as much as I shouldve about it. CC's series are very interconnected, so IMO, you kinda have to take an all or nothing approach to actually appreciate it all.

@@brittanyw6065 I stand by my opinion of TMI being the worst of her series, but that's not to say I think it should be skipped. Infernal Devices happens before TMI, and it's easy to understand what is going on separate from the rest of the ShadowHunter saga, if that trilogy is all you read, it's also the best way of figuring out whether you want to give the rest of the books a go or not. However, for the rest of the Saga it's very interconnected and you'd probably need to read them all.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy reading this. Technically, the first 3 books of The Mortal Instruments is a story and Valentine is defeated in book 3 and then Sebastian/Lilith become the bad guys' in books 4-6, because it was originally supposed to be a trilogy. I personally love Cassandra Clare. I have hardcover first editions of her entire Shadowhunter series and I just ordered the litjoy special edition of The Mortal Instruments. I also take off work when she releases new books so I can read them. I can't wait to read Chain of Thorns! ^_^

This is a real fun concept, even though it is confusing for you. 😅 TMI was a fav series as a teenager then I reread it and was so annoyed by it. But it still holds a special place in my heart because as a trilogy (as it was initially) it got me back into reading. Also, there is a real sad death in book 3. Hope you continue doing these videos. 💕

First of all, when you were saying you were refusing to buy the books and then couldn’t get the first. I was saying to myself don’t you dare say you bought it Gav! Noo!! And when you said you were gonna get it on kindle, I was thinking ugh okay, but you know and I know that you will not like it. And then to find out you already owned it for 9 years, I was cracking up. 😂👏🏻 I’ve done that many times. Second…you’re cats are so fricken cute! I love how they reacted to your face mask. They love you! I’m also just realizing Ash has a white mustache 😍 my black and white cat has a black mustache. So cute!!

omg i'm wishing you luck, at least reading the first and last mortal instruments isn't as bad as reading the first and last throne of glass. i don't know how you do this 😉 if you want to continue reading cassie clare i totally recommend the infernal devices -- top tier series!!! not to mention the last hours (which is the sequel series to that) is literally soooo good and i felt so many emotions. cassie has damaged me and i love her for it 💘

I loved this video 😃😃 this series of yours cracks me up. Your confusion when you hit the last book is fantastic to watch 😄😄. I will say that The Mortal Instruments is not a favourite of mine and I prefer the tv show to an extent. The best thing this series gave me was Magnus and Alec 🥰❤️💛. They are the only reason I read all 6 books and I will give Cassie Clare props for the character development of Alec 👏. He came a long way and the person he is now (past book 6) is brilliant 😍. I do 💯% agree that this series was boring and IMO didn’t need to be 6 books long, 4 & 5 were unnecessary and I gave them both 2stars 😬😬.

I've read this whole series so this will probably be more fun for me (because I know what happens) Though, if I'm being honest, if not for self isolation (thanks COVID) it's unlikely I would have finished this series. Not that I didn't enjoy it, because I did for the most part, but because those books are very long.

I loved this series when I read it but there are some things that really didn't need to be in the books. you should do Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, if you haven't already read them

Oh boy this series sure is a wild ride. I kept thinking about all the drama that went on in books 2-5 and thinking about how lost you were going to be, turns out I was right haha. Some weird ass shit went on in the middle books, these kinda feel like a fever or drug induced dream tbh.

Great video really enjoyed it 😊👍. Maybe instead of reading the complete books you could read the first like 100 pages or first 5-10 chapters of the first book ad than the last 100 pages/5-10 chapters of the last book. That way it would have a similar outcome but not so much time spent. If it’s with a tv series it’s like even with a double episode finale and 60 Minute episodes still only about 3hrs content to watch not like a 20hrs audiobook.

TMI series is devided in two parts, that's why you didn't understand much about the 6th book. Books 1, 2 and 3 are the first arch and 4, 5 and 6 are the second one.

“I just wanted someone to die and didn’t get it.” 😂😈 It would be interesting to see you read an intricate romance series this way and see how that works! Most of them are just collections of standalones with connected characters, but some have arcs that carry over. Like the Bridgerton series has a mini-arc with Lady Whistledown that is resolved in book 4, but what if you never got to see the reveal? It just never gets brought up again after that book. And so much time passes from book 1 to 8. The male lead of book 8 is a child in book 1, and while it worked for me, I’ve definitely heard some people say they were put off by that.

I liked the first book didn’t get to the other ones, but I do have the whole collection in paperback, but the film was horrendous

ok but I still enjoyed watching it, and I would enjoy watching it again 👀 no but of course I will accept if that is the last installment of the series

I read the Mortal Instruments and after the third or fourth book I thought the series was over with a little Bit of an Open ending But to be honest I was not Feeling that I needed another book. Years later I found Out that there was more. I really Like the world and the Magic system But the Characters and their building are a no for me. Which is sad. One of the sequels was good though. The clockwork series
