I was so proud, because I read 135 books in 2023. then I met the mother of a friend and she told me, that she was so sad, that she didn’t reach her goal of reading 500 books. She missed it by two or three books. Can you imagine that!? I was soooooo humbled after that 😅.

I read 21 books last year and it might not sound like a lot but I struggle to read due to eye problems and used to read voraciously as a child. It’s more than I’ve read in years and it felt so nice to read regularly again. That’s my goal - to always have a book on the go (unless I’m reeling from the last one and need some time to recover!). Thank you for a year of inspiring videos, Jesse. Looking forward to all the chill, bookish videos to come :)

I read 25 books this year and more than doubled my reading goal which I had at 12 books; one per month seemed doable to me. I'm so proud of myself for having read this much. I feel like the internet makes it seem like reading around 100 books is easily achievable or normal but when telling people irl that I read 25 books they all lose their minds, so dw so much about hitting the big numbers and (like you said) just have fun with it! ☺️

I'm excited that you plan on doing book reviews cause I like to watch video style reviews and essays n all. My goal this year is to read the books that have been sitting on my shelves the longest I'm always blown away by your number of books cause I'm doing good if I read 12 a year.

My biggest reading goal for 2024 is to pick ONE book, read it completely, and then repeat. 2023 was full of me picking up a book, stopping part way through, picking up a different book, and then somehow end up with a dozen partially read books and not being able to remember what's happening in any of them. When you were talking about charting your reading i was thinking: storygraph! I love their stats and charts. Other than for the book club I'm in, I plan on only reading books I physically own so I can have a massive unhaul throughout the year. I'm also going to be on a book buying ban until June or 2025. My hope is to clear my shelves as much as possible and only have my fave books I'll want to re-read and books I'm super excited for on them. My other hope is to really know my reading taste so when I start buying books again I will be enjoying more and have less DNF'ing from boredom and/or dislike.

The “earning” buying books thing is great! That’s pretty much what I’m doing. I’m in a quest to get my TBR down to five books (not time restrained), and every 10 books I get to buy a new book, and every 20 I get to buy 5.

I have a rule for myself that i get to buy half the amount of books that I have read. For example: In 2023 I read 62 books so on the first of January, I went to my booktopia wishlist and bought 31 books. I stick to it pretty well and I do end up getting other books along the way for birthdays and other celebrations but it is a really good way for me to motivate myself to read more and I love getting to pick out the books that I have been saving on my wishlist. Great way to start the year.

My goal is 52 books. I got back into reading last year after a long time of only reading a couple of books a year. I love reading challenges and readathons; they make reading more books a game.

In 2023 I initially set the goal of 40 books & I completed it in May. Then I set my reading goal to 80 books & completed that in August thanks to a 3 month free Kindle subscription & new love for audiobooks. Next I set my reading goal to 100 books which I achieved in October. Lastly I set my reading goals to 150 books but realised that was going to be too ambitious for the last couple months of the year so I reduced it to 130 books & surpassed by 5 books in December. In 2023 I also completed 3 challenges on Storygraph. For 2024 I've set my target to 50 books & signed up to the same 3 reading challenges as last year, 2 of them have different prompts which is cool & good. I've also found a 50 prompt off a bookish page on Facebook & already completed 2 of those prompts.

1) always be yourself!! Most of us are here because you like you, Jesse, not just your interesting editing. I feel like that is something that I really enjoyable about your videos, but you should do because you enjoy doing it, not because you think you have to. 2) maybe you are already playing it, but I would love to see a video of you trying to challenge yourself to read books prompted by the cartoon at the end! That would be so fun!!!

Love the goal to just feel more authentic. It is so easy to start emphasizing parts of your personality that you feel people want, I totally get that. Just remember reading and talking about books should always just be fun, and try not to get too wrapped up in the analytics!!

One of my reading goals is just to accept that reading slumps are okay (which seems counterintuitive). I ended 2023 in a reading slump because of DNF'ing some books I borrowed from the library, and am rereading the Covenant Series (which I haven't read since I was 16 - I'm almost 26) which is definitely doing its job, but I still felt ashamed in myself for getting into the reading slump to begin with.

I surpassed my reading goal last year, but I'm keeping it the same this year (65), because I know I usually struggle to hit it. (Or, more accurately, hit it by lowering the number some time in December.) I'm planning to try keeping a reading journal this year. I'm not planning to go artsy with it, just to get into the habit of writing down my thoughts on books I'm reading, without the looming worry that everyone on the internet is judging me for them. (I did print out a bunch of tiny book covers to stick in it. Somehow, none of them were for the library books I need to read this month.) Other than that, my only goals are fairly standard, read more books I already own, use the library more, and buy fewer books. (I figure that last one is toast come April, when my library is having a book sale.)

I fully believe you can accomplish your new approach to book buying! I've gotten to the point where I buy less than 20 books a year. I use Libby and Kindle Unlimited mainly now (and my haunting physical TBR). Most of the time I only buy "trophies" of the books I read as an eBook or audiobook want to have for my shelf. It's been working out. This is the least I've ever spent on books in my adult life. I hope this year is great for you, Jesse!!!

I read 35 books last year…my best year yet (as an adult). So I’m trying to read 50 this year, a big jump, I know. I have a secondary goal of 20,000 pages (average of 400 pages per book). Along with your other goals, instead of reading 100 pages a day, I read for an hour a day. And I’m also on a bit of a book buying slow down, where for every 5 books I read, I can buy 1 book (excluding Owlcrate subscription). Hope you have a successful reading year!

I totally get what you mean about stripping it back to reviews and thoughts and veering away from performing, hyper editing & the bells & whistles - always do what feels best for you, otherwise you can burn out and no one wants that

I was honestly shocked when I realized I read 400 books in 2023. Between my grandfather passing away and my grandmother's failing health, I didn't think that I would have the time to read but I think I used it as more a coping mechanism and distraction from all that has been going on.

I love that you plan to pull back on the extra fan fair in videos. I wanted to leave a comment about it in the past but didn’t want to come across the wrong way. The frequent transitions (from joke to joke for example) were a lot to digest sometimes. I’m so on board with the more chill vibes!

I read 31 books in 2023, which was 4 short of my goal. But, 1 more than 2022. So I take it as a win lol My goal this year is to mostly read from tbr books on my shelf. I also have to not be strict with it, and leave room for a prime read or a library read here and there. But my main focus is what is on my shelf.

Hey Jesse, I'm definitely the silent follower type, but I've been following your channel since about 2016 and I just wanted to voice my appreciation of your commitment to your viewers and always producing amazing content. Booktubers seem to come and go but it's so nice seeing someone be a constant on this platform. My reading goals are honestly to just read things I enjoy, and DNF anything I don't. I have a habit of needing to finish everything I start, but if I'm not enjoying the story the reading slump hits HARD. That's the first and only goal, anything else I get to... well those are just bonus points for the year. Truly SO excited for your new community, I'm hoping having people to discuss and get excited about reading with will help keep me motivated to continue my reading journey this year and following!

My goals for next year are to both keep up with new releases a little better and to cut back my unread books on my shelf - hoping to find a better balance of these two things and do so by using my kindle more! I have several reading goals 🤞I want to read at least 60 books, make a dent or read more smaller books to work on my TBR, and read more of my subscription books. I will try not to buy a lot of books this year to also help lower my physical TBR number. Someday it will be much lower and I will own more books that represent me because I love them and are keeping them.

This year my biggest goal is to read more! I’m actually going to start to fade out social media usage and replace it with reading. I won’t replace all of my social media usage but I want to replace a vast majority of it and only use social media for things that I think will be beneficial for me. Like I really dont think anyone should be spending 6 hours a day between Facebook Instagram and TikTok… that just isnt healthy so if I could replace 5 and a half hours of that with reading, I would be so happy

i only have two goals this year: mi goodreads reading challenge and a monthly reading challenge i saw on insta and seems like a fun way ti mix things up! i always end uo reading the same tipes of books over and over again so i'm excited for something different

I read 75 books in 2023. My goal was just 24, so I feel really accomplished in that sense! But looking back at my list, I didn't super enjoy most of it... Tons of 2 and 3 star reads. I was just falling down Kindle Unlimited recommendation holes. For 2024, I don't care about the number, I just want to be more intentional about choosing things I'm excited about. I turned off my KU subscription and am going to focus more on curating my tbr, so that I always have options once I finish a book.

Im excited for this year! I trying to read more of my physical TBR and I started a reading journal, that has been truning into a scrapbook artbook. It's been fun so far! I also started a book punch card for myself. If I read so many of my own books then I will let myself get a new book (Excluding my birthday and a couple subscription books.) Last year I was really good at buying new books not so much and reading my own books!

The only goals I have set this year is to really consider the books I buy and curate my collection. Also I want to stick to a reading journal most days and track my pages. Id like to read everyday even if its just a few pages.

I resonate with the being more yourself.. last year was a process of unmasking for me and this year my main goal is to be more grounded and trusting in myself bc I feel like I can be so easily swayed by other people or other opinions. I’m writing 1000 words a day this year bc that helps me process and sort out how I feel. My reading goal is 15 books and to read for 5 min a day. I’m looking forward to your book discussions and reviews.. those are my favorite and I read when a monster calls after hearing you talk about it and it was so impactful and helpful in understanding grief so thank you for that!

i'm very excited to see where your channel is going this year! :) i really hope to just keep going on like i did in 2023... maybe read a little less, since listening to audio books and reading sometimes were too much of a procrastination method. but in general i had a lot of fun, because i started using storygraph and tracked my reading, wrote little reviews for nearly everything. i also joined challenges and matched the prompts to books on my physical tbr wherever possible, which helped the mood reader inside of me to hype myself up to read books that have been standing on my shelves for a while. i'm really happy with how all that went in 2023 so yeah .. as said, i'll try to keep it up

I totally need to get back to reading more often! my reading goal for this year to literally read anything 😂I had a pretty bad 2023 and was stuck in a reading slump for the whole year which sucked (duh) So as long as I'm reading I'm happy. My reading resolution for the year is to finish all the Series I started previously. Last year, the year before- years ago, any point in time. This month I'm finishing the Scythe trilogy and another trilogy.

my reading goal for 2024 is to get better at picking up a new book after finishing one! every time i finish a book i'll spend weeks in decision paralysis about my next read - no more of that in 2024! i also want to revive the book club at my job (i work at a bookstore teehee) and - non-book related - my new year's resolution is to visit as many cat cafes as i can this year 😌😌 (i guess it can be book related if i bring a book to read in every cafe xD ive already got the first cafe down!!)

I think 104 books within a year is huge. I read 35. My goal was 30. I read every day at least 20 pages and at least 30 minutes (that was a goal and I achieved it). My shortest book was 285 pages and the longest was 564 pages. I read on average one book every 10,5 days. I read a grand total of 14492 pages within 303 hours and 23 minutes. And that's not including online story's and articles I read daily. No goal is to big or to small just read❤

I read a ton last year, but I want to dial it back and enjoy my books more. I chopped my goal in half, but it still pretty high. So far though, I'm enjoying the reading experience so much that I'm ahead of my goal.

I decided to mood read more next year, I had too many bookclubs and readathons and I loved it all, but it was a bit stifling and I'm trying to cut back a bit and not having to read every bookclub book and read what I really want to read more
