The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami is pretty spectacular. and my personal fave is the Lairs of the Hidden Gods series , edited by Ken Asamatsu ( Night Voices, Night Journeys) , all HP lovecraft inspired stories by japanese authors.

@@horrorgardener I’ve only read one Haruki Murakami book so far and I’m honestly not interested in reading all of his books, but have heard that Wind Up Bird is pretty great. I need to give it a go I guess.

@@fiberartsyreads I was recommended Wind up bird after reading House of Leaves like 20 years ago. It was an interesting read. I've got 3 others on my shelves but have not been able to get back to him yet!

@@horrorgardener I feel like Wind Up and Norwegian Wood are the two I’d be most interested in reading.

This was great! When I was little my Dad was into all things Japanese and he arranged for me to have a Japanese pen pal. It seems like you had so much fun with this. It was really fun to watch! 🇯🇵

Oh I love that. I remember having a Penpal from India for a little bit. I really did have fun with this, I know it ended up being so long but I wanted to include everything I got into!

Yeah Grotesque is kinda heavy for sure. I definitely need to continue on with Blood on the Tracks to see what’s going to happen.

🇯🇵 really enjoyed this! Battle Royale is so good, the manga is great too, but even darker. Not read Grotesque, but I loved Out by Kirino.
