Basically I'm in a reading slump so decided to go to Barnes and Noble and pick up The Love Hypothesis to try out. I gave my full spoiler free review at the end.

hi maya! i also have mix feelings about the The Love Hypothesis. at the time i liked it but then looking back it, some scenarios just felt off. but from what i read online, TLH was supposedly a starwars fanfic which later got turned to a stem romcom novel so that’s probably why it felt very wattpad style 😂

Hi Maya, solo leveling is actually a manhwa. Which is basically Korean manga, solo leveling is one of the best manhwas I ever read, and I encourage you to continue reading if you can. (P.S. There is actually an anime in the works for this)

Love the chill reading vibes of your new videos !!😎🌊 Would love to recommend the “These violent delights” small series by the TALENTED Chloe Gong, Like a Romeo and Juliet situation with Monster, Gore, gangs, jazz and the most insane enemie to lover trope all set in 1926 shanghai. Literally amazing ❤

Girl I totally agree abt The Love Hypothesis. I would give it a 3/5 as well. It is a simple fun read, which can be nice sometimes, but the characters lacked depth and the conflicts were kinda trivial imo. Personally I think its overhyped, but I think that's because it was an easy ready & it became popular for non-readers. Maybe that's a good thing tho, cuz sometimes books like this are a nice way to get into or back into reading.

i recently got back into reading and going to the library (along with my best friend) i’m more of the horror young adult or romance. my favorite series so far are the Fear Street Books by R.L Stine. I’ve read three of them so far and just bought two more. They’re all amazing in my opinion. A romance book i finished was A Quiet Kind Of Thunder by Sara Barnard. Which was beautiful as well. I also just got into Darcy Coates books and i own two of them. She is also a horror author.

Maya omg i have to share my goodreads review of the love hypothesis bc this book was a nightmare and i agree with you! (spoilers for anyone else tho) this book was not all it was cracked up to be. From the beginning, i actually thought it was going in a pretty good direction. Adam's jokes about the Title IX made me giggle. In my opinion, for a fake dating trope to work, the stakes need to be MONUMENTAL, especially as grown-ass adults who have no business fake dating anyway lol. Adam's reasoning for the fake dating was to convince the school that he'd stay with them and also get his research funds released. Okay GREAT! Olive's reasoning was to convince her best friend that she was over someone and allow Anh to move on with said someone. Less great, but her desperation to be a good friend lowkey made me care and therefore want the fake dating scheme to work out. So A+ to miss hazelwood for that. It was downhill from there, though. Olive's mindset is one that i strongly dislike in main characters. Or at least how it was presented. Anytime she would deny herself being the main character she would say things like "unbelievable. Impossible. Could never happen to me." i really hate reading things like that. Like we KNOW you're the main character girl just act like it or don't say stuff like that lmao. Also, Olive would sometimes make these little realizations in the book that would later amount to absolutely nothing, like the author just writing things to write things. For example, Adam offered her a protein bar and olive specifically points out the fact that its covered in chocolate. but THEN WHAT? Adam said he didn't like chocolate. so now I'm left to wonder why he has it. did he lie about not liking chocolate or did he bring it just for her?? probably the latter, but why would you leave me wondering? Another example is Olive 'realizing' that Adam was the guy from the bathroom a few years ago. disliked this part because it wasn't triggered by anything (ie, adam repeating something he said that day, etc). THEN, it wasn't even confirmed to her. As readers, we knew from the get-go, but for Olive to say "omg it was him" with nothing to actually back it up was unfulfilling. In the end, I was left more annoyed by Olive's realizations than swooning over them. I DESPISED the spice scene, it felt forced particularly because as Olive and Adam's "relationship" continued, there wasn't enough development for me, no real feelings, therefore the spice felt unearned. even worse were the times Anh basically forced Olive onto Adam, it was too weird!! the spice scene was ridiculously uncomfortable because all throughout it, Olive wasn't even SURE she wanted to be doing it in the first place, so it made me uncomfy the whole time I was reading it. A TikTok user pointed out that Olive might be Demisexual and therefore had issues with the way that Olive's thoughts towards sex were portrayed as "not normal." It was an interesting take that I wanted to note here. other bad things: - adam calling olive a smartass every. two. pages. - undeveloped side characters, Anh and Malcolm were so shallow :( - tom - the readers knowing that the tom altercation was recorded before the characters found out. i wish i could've experienced that discovery with them rather than figuring it out beforehand so easily

I had read the love hypothesis and i agree with everything u said.I was looking for a romance between two grown people and ended up feeling like i was reading a highschool romance. They weren't mature at all in their behavior, expressing their feeling an also the spicy scene(dk felt like an exhibition if u know what i mean, wasn't natural at all)not what i was expecting.

But thank you because what you said about world building. I had a 2 YEAR reading graveyard and I didn’t know what was up. But when you said it, I realized I don’t love waiting for the world to build anymore. Must be why contemporary has been what got me out. I can just jump into it. I think the reason I’m in a reading slump is because I’ve still yet to find my favorite genre. I’m not really into sci fi/fantasy books like you are and am currently struggling to find a book that really sucks me in. I tried reading song of Achilles but found it really hard/boring to understand about 200 pages in. I am currently reading yolk which is a sort of coming of age book and I like the realness from it 👍👍👍

I read TLH. I agree some of the parts were quite childish and it took me forever to get through them. Chapter 16 did feel a little misplaced and I skipped a bit of it because that's just not how I envisioned them at that point in their relationship. The ending was the part that irritated me the most because the issue really didn't need to be dragged out that much. But I definitely feel like Olives inability to communicate and be honest is her big flaw and the basis of the story.

ICL you make me laugh so much because everything you were saying about the book was facts, I think the reason I was able to enjoy the book a little bit more than you was because I just pretended as if they weren't the ages they were supposed to be because it just didn't make sense any sense why they behaved like that. Honestly, I really hated Olive as the main character because she was soooo jarringggg like all she did was lieeee back to back to back. Like you actually have a chronic issue and the sunshine aspect wasn't even there in her character at all; and the best friend was moving so weirdly likeeee ,if she said she's over him then she is and if you still feel like maybe she's not then the best thing to do as HER FRIEND, is to lay off a bit and stop constantly asking and talking about it. like my dayyssss she was actually so selfish but yh she definitely rubbed me the wrong way. AND yes you are so right about the smut scene in the book because I was so confused, like I didn't get how they were able to do all that while she was visibly so upset about what had legit just happened to her. It didn't any sense like I had to go back to see if it was just me that witnessed what had just happened previously. YUPPP AND THE MISCOMMUNICATIONNN WAS MAD LIKE IF U ACTUALLY JUST OPEN UR MOUTH but it's like every time she opened her mouth all she could do was lie. and personally I hate it when the mcs pretend as if they don't rate each other (always in fake dating situations) even after everything and will always be like we were never actually dating like stfu🙂but that's the end of my rant
