Reading with A Writer's Eye: Writing and Reading Analysis

Hyphens, M-dash, and N-dash. I am only now learning that there's more than one of them. I hate how the ... "unspaced em dash" is used to replace parenthesis, especially since that break in a sentence can sometimes just be singular (returning to nothing but the end of a sentence) instead of a pair. but I suppose parenthesis are more explicit in intention, whereas while speaking, naturally all you hear is the break. Speaking need not follow rules of coherency, such as when stuttering, or completely dropping an idea mid-sentence to start a new one, potentially more than once.

I love the unspaced em dash. Visually, it flows for me more easily, but finding out about the em-dash/en-dash is always a mind flip. It's a good thing to keep handy for whatever kind of writing you might be doing. :)
