This movie / book was a love story to the 1980s era. I grew up in this era thus the movie is special to me. So many great pop culture references. Not sure why and I cannot even describe the reason behind it but the end scene in Halliday's house always hits me in the feels.
@bluecollarhero

I think Halliday is autistic, people didn't really understand it back in the '80s so the ending is a great love letter to people with ASD.

Filmmakers that care about story and character development like Spielberg are in short supply nowadays. And what’s worse: Hollywood has embraced mediocracy over creating good content that continues to find an audience after the initial film’s run.

There are many hidden movie references in this movie so you may want to check them out. You already saw the Shining so that's good. But did you know that the secret chant to activate the Orb of Osuvox is from the 1981 movie 'Excalibur' - a classic movie (with a great cast) based on the legend of King Arthur, and the orb chant is the necromancer's charm of making from the movie.

I knew Viki would love "Ready Player One" but I didn't expect Lia to love it so much. ------ And of course you girls picked up on the life lesson and heartfelt story behind the main theme of the movie. ------ So amazing to see you girls light up to one of my favorite movies. Next you girls should watch, "Minority Report".

@manticore5733

@@SeanTube2099 As far as story, character and nostalgia go the book is definitely better. The film does an excellent job of presenting a similar story with lots of popcorn visuals but I think it's mainly the loss of the character development that lets it down. For those that don't know, the book has very different key/puzzle scenarios (far more involved) and several more sequences that give real depth to the OASIS and the 'real world' along with more fleshed out characters for all involved.
@SeanTube2099
@SeanTube2099 Жыл бұрын
@@manticore5733 totally agree with your summary. I think I would have loved the film if I hadn’t read the book, as the film encompassed so much of what I enjoy (Sci-Fi, computers, 80s film and games culture). It’s so rare I read the book before seeing the film, but so many people had recommended it to me.

Fun Fact: Steven Spielberg was shooting RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK in the same studio facility that Stanley Kubrick was shooting THE SHINING. This was where Spielberg and Kubrick established a friendship that lasted for decades. To the point where Spielberg took over one of Kubrick's most cherished projects A.I.: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

There is a second book, called (aptly) "Ready Player Two", but not sure if they will make it into a movie like they did this. I do highly recommend reading the book though (both the first and secon one). Great reaction, how you guys always get into it and recognized some of the easter eggs and how there were so many references to other movies shows, comics, etc as well. This is a very overlooked movie that not many reactors react to, so I am glad you did!

They had to chop it down & re-write it (big time!), because some copyright holders refused to give permissions! And there's also the consideration that if they tried to stick with the book, even semi-closely ... they would've had to add *at least* another hour to it! Maybe one-quarter of the movie actually follows the book. Heck, the 'Fortress Of Solitude' asteroid in the book is *awesome!* I would've *loved* to see an *accurate* rendition of it in the movie!

As a big Gundam fan this is perhaps one of only 3 American films I can think of that has referenced Mobile Suit Gundam, which is pretty much Japan's Star Wars. The other two films are "Enemy of the State" staring Will Smith and "One Hour Photo" staring Robin Williams. References being, the toy store bag that Will Smith caries has a Gundam Parody mech on the bag made to look similar but different enough not to infringe on copyright, ie snuck into the film. Robin Williams you get to see a MS-06R-2 Johnny Ridden Custom Zaku II Highmobility Type Model Kit which is from a Gundam Manga series, Williams even comments on it, you also get to see an Evangelion Figurine, Williams chose to put those in the film because he was an anime mech fan apparently. So he wasn't just a gamer but also an anime fan, and honestly he had good taste personally.

People do love the "eggs" and other hidden things in games. Some can be stumbled upon just in regular play. Others...I don't know how in the blistered hell people find them at all. lol Them: "it's easy....just stand in a very specific area on a big ass map and do 2 perfectly timed jumps while facing in a specific direction onto something you shouldn't be able to jump on to find yourself outside of the map boundary. Now face a new specific direction and run in a specific zig zag pattern for 2 minutes over terrain that only halfway renders and you can find a weapon and a secret message from the developers.....after standing on your head while eating peanut butter and farting the Star Spangled Banner IRL for 6 days straight while the game is paused obviously." Me: " Yeah buddy, I don't know how in the blue hell I could have possibly missed that one!!! FFS! Bitch, you lost me at "it's easy" so just post a damned video or 243 individual screen shots in chronological order or something." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

As much as I love the movie, I would HIGHLY recommend the book. The author worked with Spielberg to take the same story but cram it into a 2 hour movie. The book is a lot more complex with different events leading to the keys, as well as a lot more to the main characters' relationship. I'm glad that someone could bring all these copyrights together on the screen. If you like the movie, though, grab the book!

I’m reasonably sure that a year or so ago many of these pop culture references would have slipped by Vicki and Lia but in that time they reacted to several of the movies (The Shining in particular) referenced here. Doubtful there will be a sequel to this as it was quite expensive to make and it kind of underperformed at the box office. Not that it did badly but it definitely didn’t do as well as they hoped it would.

Very cool reaction; I think I enjoyed it more than what you were watching! It's not a bad movie - pretty good really, but the book is *so* _much_ better! I know that partly it's because they couldn't get the necessary permissions to show/use some of the required material(s), due to licensing 'issues' ... which was *so* _stupid_ of the copyright-owners! They coulda just said "We want a half-percent of the movie's gross sales" ... they could've made a million or two (or more?), without having to actually do anything! *IDIOTS!* [And don't give me that whole 'we want to safeguard the material's use in appropriate and 'correct' ways' B.S.!] But the whole final battle, and the way it worked out afterwards were way, *way* better in the book! But I think they were thinking that since a goodly chunk of the movie-goers probably would have a tough time following it all ... they decided they needed to simplify it! They also compressed the time-span *a lot* and cut-out some cool sub-plots ... like, Parzival's 'Fortress Of Solitude' asteroid in the book was *awesome!* All that stuff was why I didn't bother to go out and see the movie ... I'd heard about some of the major changes - and decided I wasn't that interested.
