From dinner to bed, our bedtime routine with our 3 kids under 3 is BUSY! It takes both of us fully involved to make the night go smooth and even still tonight (because of daylight savings, teething and well just... TODDLERS!) everything GOES WRONG 🤦🏻‍♀️ Between throwing plates, getting out of bed a million times and even baby wearing late into the night - this night was anything but typical which in itself happens to be kind of typical 😅 🥴 In all honestly, nights are hard for everyone, we're all exhausted at the end of the day, but tonight was ESPECIALLY HARD on EVERYONE! So boundaries and empathy went a LONG WAY with our kids (and ourselves) tonight!
But as I put this vlog together to share with you all, the lyrics to the opening song were perfect:
"’Cause we only have this life
Wanna laugh and wanna cry
I don’t wanna waste my time
So baby we should start living now."

When I see authentic videos like this from a Christian mom who strives to please God and is intelligent I learn so much, your channel is a blessing. Thank you for showing how to be a beautiful patient mother. We all naturally lose our cool sometimes but it’s obvious you are a loving, wise, nurturing mom. I wish I could be that way!!!

YOU CAN Mama! 💛 I have lost my cool more times than I can count but I'm working on regulating myself more and more each day, and when I "lose my cool" MODELING for my kiddos in that moment how we can ALL learn from our mistakes and always try again. My favorite go to phrase for this is, "I'm sorry, I didn't say that to you with kindness. I know it doesn't feel good to be spoken to that way. I'd like to try again. Could I try saying that again to you?" "Thank you for letting me try again, it feels much better to be spoken to with kindness, doesn't it? Next time when I feel angry, I will still speak with kindness the first time. Love you Buddy!" ❤️ Like I said, we all lose control sometimes but THANKFULLY God loves us so deeply that we've been forgiven by Him for our shortcomings already and therefore we can rest in His love and little by little, change our hearts and actions to more accurately reflect that love to our children ❤️

I've been trying to figure out how to get my toddler to look and listen. Watching you with your son, made me cry. We had 2 under 2 for a couple months and here we are a couple months later, it's 5am and I couldn't sleep because I'm worried about my toddler. Thank you for posting this video. Seeing the in the moment chaos not only makes me feel like I'm not failing, it gives me a practical way forward. THANK YOU

Daylight savings was difficult for us as well, you are not alone! 😘 Also, there is NOTHING like bedtime with 3 little ones. I have been right where you are, and it totally gets better. You are amazing, I love the real-ness of this. Also, you’re a trooper for cleaning after. Sometimes I just have to leave it for the next day because I’m too dang exhausted!!

Thank you so much for doing this video! It would have been so easy for you guys to just stop recording, just to get through the night. But you stuck with it and kept your extended family (yes, I watched the CDC video!) along for the ride! So glad you guys are back! This video gave me so many different ideas and I literally take notes on your videos all the time! For my child's first year of life, I watched all your milestone videos and took notes, and put those notes above his changing table. You guys make a difference! Thank you for your time and efforts! Much love!

The reality of your routine was so helpful and comforting to see. Thank you for sharing! I'd love to see an honest video of how both your routines and lives shifted when you went from one child to two and beyond...I am so overtired with one and would love to assess if I'm able to manage two in the near future.

So real, thank you so much for such authentic content! I'm pregnant with my second and I was watching with my husband to see in what order you put your kids to bed (toddler first? Baby first?) and finally I was so thrilled to see you all back, to see Quinn and the kids also 🥰 But I'm still curious - when Ainsleigh was still a newborn, how did you manage Christian's bedtime routine? For the moment, we have a very 'rigid' bedtime routine with our 22-month old Saskia and I'm a bit worried about how to deal with a newborn and Saskia's bedtime. Thank you so much as always 👏👏

Isn’t it so great to see the WHOLE GANG? 🥰 Congrats on your growing family! To answer a few of your questions, we put the toddlers down first so that the baby can join us for stories and songs and then after they are down we give Ruby her last bottle and then put her to bed! Funny you should mention Christian‘s bedtime routine when Ainsleigh was a newborn! I remember when Christian was nine months old and we were still rocking him to sleep I was so concerned what I was going to do when the baby came! By the time Ainsleigh arrived we had to sleep trained him so that, at the very least, I wouldn’t get in the dilemma of “who do I rock and who do I let cry?” But while Ainsleigh was very young I always did our bedtime routine with a bouncer that I could bounce with my foot while I attended to Christian! It was generally never a problem but since Christian could put himself to bed by the time Ainsleigh came, if there ever was a conflict it never lasted long! Also as soon as we are able we got Ainsleigh on a predictable schedule and made sure that, on regular days, their schedules were not conflicting! Mostly so that I didn’t ever need to feed the baby during our bedtime routine because that is tricky! Just do the best you can to involve both of your sweet babies in your bedtime routine, and really everything else, and everyone will be just fine! You got this! 💛💪🏻

Looks so much like ours!! Love it! ❤️ 3, 3 and under mama over here! We are having a hard time moving our 2 year old from crib in nursery to our 3 year old's room (bunks). They talk sooo much and just won't go to bed when they're in the same room. Frustrating.. but we'll get there some day. Hopefully before my 2m old needs the crib. 😆

Haha! Yes girl! I am with you in the struggle! Sometimes is great, other times… 🥴 One thing we found super helpful was staggering their bedtimes! Usually my 3 year old 20-30 minutes after my 2 year old! You’ll make it through Mama! Sending hugs your way! 🤗

Thanks for not glorifying a night time routine. I was wondering what seat do you put Ruby in to get a bath with her siblings?

Hahah - there was no way to glorify that night even if I tried! 😂 And I went ahead and added her bath seat to our Amazon List for you! We LOVE it and it helps me feel like she is SO MUCH safer bathing with the toddlers, even though she's fully capable of sitting on her own! 😂 www.amazon.com/shop/thecarnahanfam
