So I almost cried from watching this. Here's the thing. I'm from Chicago and I'm studying in Seoul right now. I *love* deep dish (it was my last meal back home before I flew out here). And I miss it so much and watching you eat the pizza was great because seeing people enjoy real deep dish *in Chicago* makes me feel some weird type of pride. So I was doing great and everything was fine until you brought out the root beer because NOT ONLY were you eating one of the foods i miss most from home but you had the AUDACITY to casually bring out something I have been craving since I goT HERE mONTHS AGO and I had to pause the video and go for a walk because this was so cruel and I've never felt more personally targeted by a youtube video in my entire life I'm going home for the holidays in 1 week and I was doing so well with not thinking about how much I miss home honestly how dare you.

It's actually tradition to use a knife and fork on a Chicago deep dish. My family is from Chi-town. I always hit up Lou Malnati's when I visit. You can spot a visitor by them simply picking up the slice as if it's New York style. It's essentially a cheese pie with the garnish of a pizza.

Just came back to watch this video again. Many years ago I went to Chicago for a conference. A friend of mine from the area took me to Lou Malnati's. Since then I've dreamed of deep dish, so much so that I'm tempted to spend $150 to have it shipped overnight to Colorado. Would be so worth it....

I'm from Chicago. This video was sheer torture to watch for two reasons: 1) I no longer live in Chicago and 2) I found out in 2015 that I can no longer eat gluten, so no more deep dish pizza for me. When you return to Chicago, go to Lou Malnati's. You will weep with joy. Trust me. Order ONE pizza with a Malnati salad. Their Italian sausage and mushroom deep dish pizza is amazing and their crust is phenomenal.

If you have not gluten intolerance, you need to switch to organic wheat flour. Its the chemicals who cause problems

@@justme8841 no you're wrong. It's a protein called gliadin. Food intolerance can be caused by bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine however. The hyphae of yeasts and bad bacteria puncture the small intestine letting certain proteins into the blood stream causing an inflammatory reaction. Nothing to do with chemicals and eating organic wheat won't magically cure your intestine full of holes

i lived in chicago for a few years when i was in high school, and a couple years ago went back for a friends wedding. i took a friend with me from florida who'd never been to chicago before so of course we went to giordano's. he swore to me he'd be able to finish the pizza but i convinced him to still just order one small one to share. he had 2 pieces and was done lol

When you come from Chicago it's really hard to eat pizza anywhere else. It's hard to live anywhere else. So much good food in one town. Good food, good music, summers are the best. Growing up in Chicago was great. If you weren't scared of leaving your neighborhood. You can learn and experience a lot. Now I'm homesick and hungry.

My wife and I tried deep dish pizza in Chicago in 2002. It was amazing. The problem for me is that cheese can trigger a migraine, which it did--a bad one. But it didn't keep us from going right back in a few days and repeating the process. Fortunately, no migraine the next time. Then I spent 4 years working to reproduce the recipe. I have done so. It's now a staple in our home. Homemade Chicago style pizza.

Me, a Chicagoan trying to figure out where they went and when and WHY I DIDN'T SEE YOU WHEN YOU WERE HERE!?!?! EdIt: finally caught it at the very end. Giordano's. Good choice. Pizza is wonderful. If you come back you HAVE to hit a Lou Malnati's. The butter crust there is miles beyond Giordano's and the tomato sauce..mwah~!

I am originally from the Northeast specifically New Jersey, and being from an Italian family growing up family members owned pizzerias in New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia and I am extremely partial to a New York style pizza but I do have to say I definitely do enjoy the deep dish pizza from time to time.

When in Chicago you eat deep dish pizza (as you did), Al’s Italian beef sandwich, Chicago dog (hot dog with all toppings), tacos in Pilsen, cheap Chinese in Chinatown and uh, did I miss anything? Ah yes. Indian food on Devon, polish food on Milwaukee Ave. Korean food on Lawrence...I’ll be back after I eat some of these. Got hungry suddenly.

@@JustMe-dc6ks what's weird is i always found the pepto tablets to almost have a root beer like taste, which made them not as bad to me. and depending on what else I ate before, I"ve gotten a root beer like taste while having gum. So this all makes sense to me. I love root beer btw.

I'm sure this has already been said before, but I'm a Chicagoan and I'm SO HAPPY you guys enjoyed deep dish! I don't ever really see people eating it with their hands though so that was a surprise - mostly we use a knife and fork :D Have you done Lou Malnati's or Jet's? Lou's is a classic competitor to Giordano's, and Jet's is kind of a hidden gem of deep dish. I'll go to Lou or Giordano's with family, but Jet's with friends :)

Late to the the party, but the one and only time I was in Chicago, in 1999, I had a Chicago-style pizza pie, because you have to, right? :) It was a spinach and feta cheese pizza, and to this day, it's the best pizza I've ever had.

Did Josh & Ollie say the name of the restaurant? If not, at the end of the video we see it's Giordano's. I used to live in the burbs 20 years ago. I preferred Nancy's for deep dish but everyone there has their own fave. Restaurants who make deep dish put cheese on the bottom so it doesn't dry and shrivel. This also works for pizzas with cheese on top, cook it for the minimum suggested time or the cheese will start to fade.

I used to like Edwardo's & Wapaghetti in Wheeling. Gino's East in Schaumburg disappointed a little. Gino's deep dish had hunks of sausage as big as your nose, but not that flavorful.

박희설 Actually if you want facts pizza isn’t thin crust, it normally has to be fluffy and big. But no deep dish. It’s called mostly deep dish and not pizza with it for a reason

I had my very first slice of Chicago pizza a few weeks ago and I have to say honestly that ALL THE RUMORS ARE TRUE!! It is literally the best pizza I've ever had in my life!!!

Took a trip to Chicago when my picky eater son was about 2. He ate an entire slice of pepperoni deep dish and a big chunk of mine, lol. I think it was the most I’d ever seen him eat in one setting, lol. I was amazed, idk where he put it, just wouldn’t stop eating. It’s that good.

Omg this looks sooo good. I tried Pizza hut's "chicago style" pizza which was nothing like the real deal (from what I've seen). Also Josh's glasses really suit him!

Lea Sine idk. As a life long Chicagoan I’ve never heard that so I doubt that’s true. Plus if it was cooked into the crust it wouldn’t have any alcohol in it anymore. When you cook the beer only the flavor stays. The alcohol gets cooked out.

It still bothers me so much that when we went to visit our aunt and uncle in Kansas, we stopped over at Chicago but only for a few hrs so basically, I was so close to deep dish pizza but we weren't really supposed to leave the airport 😭

I'm stunned; honestly, I've never seen anything like that. I've had pizza that was called deep dish but it didn't even look like it was related to what you guys were served. You're killing me - and it sure isn't helping that I'm very hungry - it's enough to make me want to go to Chicago. Love you both and your content! 😘

I'm a Chicagoan and even I had to confirm that this is sold as deep dish, because most places with this style refer to it as "stuffed pizza". Deep dish is usually a porous, butter crust and doesn't have so much cheese.

한국에서 파는 자칭 시카고 피자들은 진짜 장난치냐???? 홍대 시카고 피자도 원조에 비하면 정말 장난 치는거다 ㅠㅠ 왜 한국에만 오면 모든게 품질은 싸구려 화 되고 가격은 프리미엄화 되는건가?

미국 가본적도 없어보이는 사람이 덧글쓰고 앉아있네 ㅋㅋ 영국남자 다른 영상은 안봐? 그거만 봐도 서양사람들 한국 피자 맛있다고 그러는데 미국 일반 피자 다 한국보다 개 맛없음 짜기만 존나 짜고 맛 1도 없고 가격도 안싸 스타벅스 빼고 미국이 싼 프랜차이즈 없음 맛은 한국이 낫고 물론 저기 시카고 피자는 존나 맛있으니까 꼭 가봐라 점심에 가면 런치 세트 10불 언저리에 피자 + 샐러드 or 감튀 + 음료수 런치세트 판다 다 먹고 팁 15%정도 꼭 주고 ~ 한국 피자 그렇게 싫으면 미국가서 꼭 피자헛이든 도미노피자든 먹어봐라~

you can order Giordano/s online and they'll ship the pizza to you! I visited friends in Chicago and had it, then when I returned to NC I ordered one and it was still incredible
