We received questions from foreigners about Bosozoku and Yankee culture, so we decided to archive footage of Bosozoku. Japan's motorcycle gangs are already an endangered species, so you might be lucky if you can spot one. If you come to Japan for sightseeing and see it, give it a wave. Also, if you encounter a "Bosozoku" that drives nuisantly at night, you should attack them mercilessly with an iron pipe.

In Brazil we don't have biker gangs, instead every biker is always like this no matter what, accelerating to make noise, driving dangerously, seeing this being a rare sight in Japan is funny in comparison.

I'm being reminded of a couple of instances that somehow parodies this: -Gekisou Sentai Carranger in which the alien race they fight in every episode are called the Bosozoku. -In one of the Ryu Ga Gotoku series, as a sidequest, Kiryu comes across a music group that picked up the Yanki culture but don't know how to act like Bosozoku, he ends up teaching them how to be that albeit they pretend to be that. Another thing of note is that greasers of that age were usually seen as that through movies akin to old western hat logic. White meaning good, Black meaning bad. In the late 70s into mid 80s, that schism broke thanks to two shows, Happy Days and Kamen Rider. On Happy Days, Henry Winkler played Arthur 'Fonz' Fonzerelli and he was once seen as that until his character changed from being the loner into the local good guy and badass. Kamen Rider plays about the same trope except the way he's always depicted as; a one-man army fighting the forces of evil and even if over the years they change up the formula, that small hint of good is always there. The thing about gangs in general is that they do exist, some members want to relive their glory days while others are as commonplace as the rest of society.

暴走族の年代ですが、旧車會はマナーが良いというより何十年も経っているのに未だに稚拙な事から抜け出せない恥ずかしい人たちとしか思えないです。彼らは自分の子に誇らしげに語っているのでしょうか？海外の方々に当時はこういう文化があったというのは構いませんが、今は礼儀正しいというのは本当にご勘弁いただきたいです。

In the 1950s, Honda had an ad that was similar. They entered the USA when motorcycles were associated with gangs. They named it "You meet the nicest people on a Honda." They wanted to get motorcycles to non enthusiasts.

自分は1970年代生まれなので同世代がまんま族の全盛期ロケットカウルも今はおとなしくなりましたね当時はあれで前見えるんか？と思えるほど長く高かったですｗあまりにうるさいので何度電柱の間にピアノ線張ろうと思ったことかゲーセンも奴らの溜り場で怖い思いしてました

そもそも「暴走族をもっと恥ずかしい名前で呼ぼう」でできたのが珍走団だからねぇ。多分昔々にそう呼んでた時はそれが「恥ずかしい」って思う時代だったんじゃないかと。個人的にはバイクの排気は人間でいう屁だと思ってるので、自分はずっと屁コキ虫って呼んでますが。

한국에 서도 이러한 갱단은 90년대에 많았습니다 게임은 아니지만 한국에도 정식발매된 湘南純愛組이 유명하네요. 지금도 광복절 등의 국가 기념일 에는 갱단이 나오곤 합니다

So like the gang in Akira? I heard that the pressure to conform is intense in Japan. Some people can't stand it, so they rebel and join a motorcycle gang. Perhaps non conformists and misfits have found better things to do? Maybe they became otaku, hikikomori, or cosplayers instead. I always found it interesting to see the guys who try to look like Elvis.
