Ugh! "Not just something I do to do and get out of the way." Thank you for being raw and real. I really needed to hear this today. There are far too many days that I school to check boxes. My heart needed to hear this today. Thank you for sharing. 💜

I had that convo with my 12 year old recently, it’s so easy to slide into school as something to just get done to get on to “real life” when it should be a life-long pursuit supporting our other hobbies and work.

Love how CALM your homeschooling day is. I have a toddler so homeschooling is anything but calm here but also trying to enjoy this crazy season I am in and knowing that it will be different in the future. Also love how you emphasized a heart change on not just getting school done with and out of the way. I need to daily remind myself of that and enjoy the process!

I love your videos. I am probably not your typical viewer. My children are in a good situation in public school (3rd and 5th grade), and I work as a speech language pathologist at a private practice. I enjoy hearing and learning from you, and you really inspire me. I was praying for you today that you would feel great encouragement in pressing on in the Lord. That is what we are all trying to do. I have taken some of your ideas, and incorporated them in my home, even though I am not a home schooling mom. We all have different parts to play in the body of Christ and how God leads us. Thanks so much for following your calling and sharing it with us!

I totally agree that you shouldn’t rush school. I understand why some ask though. for me I am doing online accelerated classes of my own for my BSN and I need as much time as possible for school. But most of the time I stay up until 1am so it is a hard balance.

I would love your advice!! I have an almost 12 year old boy, severe ADHD, and he is very disruptive during school time. Noises, distracted, distracting others, goofing off. It's so exhausting and disruptive and just makes an overall negative experience for everyone. How would you handle this type of behavior during school time? I need him to be present during school time (I'm also a daycare provider so we have very strict/limited times to do our work) so sending him to his room every time until he's ready to control himself isn't going to work because I don't have the time to do the work with him later. Any advice for this burned out mama? :( I feel bad for my 9 year old who loves to learn and is always having to wait for me to discipline our older son.

To be honest for me it's about survival and getting homeschool done at this point. My husband is gone 18 days out of the month. I have 2 kids who struggle academically and I homeschool 4. And I have a little one running around. Andmy one son has appointments throughput the week because of his needs. So I'd like for it to be the way you do it but I'm grateful to get the basics done. I'm so discouraged and feel so alone at times 😥

The generous use of quality read alouds can have maximum impact for the time that you have available. They are enjoyable, low stress, little to no prep, and provide lessons that they can retain! You can read aloud to different ages from the same book...a struggling reader can be asked to silently follow along in their own copy of the book while they listen to you read... History, character/life lessons, vocabulary development, critical thinking can all be covered here! You might ask an older child to write out a chapter summary, a younger one to retell the chapter to you, and an even younger one to draw a picture from something in the chapter. An easy discussion time can happen around the dinner table...the ideas are many and varied. Each age will get out of it that for which they are ready... See Honey for a Child's Heart by Gladys Hunt for more info on reading aloud along with suggested book lists. Lamplighter Publishing reprints good character-building stories. Reading aloud to your kids from the Bible is great. This was the most worthwhile way that we spent in our homeschooling years. I still have the last book that we read aloud together before our homeschool was broken up via graduation--Rifles for Watie, a historical fiction book set during the Civil War. My boys enjoyed war stories...be sure to read Where the Red Fern Grows and titles covered by Progeny Press Study Guides. I encourage you in your efforts to educate and raise your family! We had some things that made our HS a challenge (chronic illness on my part, working with a severely dyslexic child), but God sustained.

I admire how you homeschool! We just started Homeschooling last month (3rd and 5th grade). How do you deal with kids who constantly get up in the middle of a lesson? Also my kids aren't huge fans of read alouds, I'm lucky if I can get 1 in before they start complaining. I know it will all get better and we have to find what works best for us. But any tips would be appreciated 😊

Have you tried letting them color or use their hands - kinetic sand or play dough or squishy ball? Start with picture books even at their age with deeper meanings you can discuss immediately after or a chapter book that is light and you know they would enjoy it, or let them eat popcorn while you read each afternoon (this always works for me). Another idea is Goodreads, set up a family account, let them scan the books with the app and rate and set your yearly goal. My daughter loves checking in on what we have accomplished and takes ownership in rating the books. Just what we do here and I hope something helps! Agree it will take time too. 📚

@onion456

Hi, have you tried a phonics program? It's critical to be solid with short vowel sounds first, then teach them VC (vowel/consonant patterns). If you have magnetic letters, you could practice building CVC words, switching out vowel sounds. Then build VC patterns, switching out the initial letter. Just some initial thoughts. 🙂 If you can find information on the 6 syllable types, it's very helpful. Closed syllables are first.

@t-rachel19
@t-rachel19 Жыл бұрын
*Homeschooling mom of 12 here* You do not need an accredited diploma to send your children to college. I have 2 homeschooled college graduates (one graduated magna cum laude) and 2 of our children currently attending Liberty University. You create your child's diploma and transcripts based off of the curriculum you used and your states standards. We also have our children take the ACT test. I would encourage you to attend a Teach them Diligently homeschool conference, or another similar type of homeschool conference. Those conferences are a wealth of information. ❤
