My name is Lars. I'm From Denmark but I live in Rural Russia now. I live at a Homestead in wild nature surrounded by a huge forest.
On The Survival-Russia channel we do all things related to the Outdoors Lifestyle. I share my thoughts and experiences on Survival Techniques for the woodlands of the Northern Hemisphere. the Reality of Survival. I share Techniques and ways of the Siberian Tribesmen and the Russian Longhunters of the older days. Things not shown outside of Russia very much.

he's in the middle of nowhere. if some stranger shows up in town they will know. not to mention that he's armed to the teeth. why would anyone want to hurt his child anyway? i know people can be horrible but i don't see any issue with mentioning his kid's school in this context. i'm sure there is only one school for the village so you could easily figure it out anyway.

Dude I spend my evenings after work on learning to speak Russian because of what you know and what he says. He said it best: "there are no pubs, not bars, no discos" . Somehow he has his finger on the very pulse of the west and is able to read the factors contributing to its decline like a doctor measures cholesterol.

Thanks for bringing this to many of us in the US. People is people and the vast majority are good. Go to work, school, want what’s best for our kids. Rural Russia could fit in just fine in rural US.

@America First Not disagreeing with that and MAYBE part of the problem is many young gulf war vets are returning home and putting on a different uniform but bringing some potential PTSD type problems to the job with them. I am not bad mouthing our distinguished vets but I can see where some of them have brought back a certain attitude that doesn't necessarily distinguish well between between combat patrolling and urban policing and then of course there are just plain pricks out there with no military ties that are badge heavy, control freaks. There are also really good guys that just plain get tired of the same old bullshit from repeat offenders and little in the way of proper justice. There needs to be #1-better screening of applicants with follow up maybe every two years and more time off or duty rotation to get the guys out of the grind/routine etc. As far as following orders let's face it how many are going to walk off a job because they don't agree with what they're told to do?

Be it in the woods hunting or trapping, in the fields farming or ranching, or in the sea shore fishing or sailing. We all have our little tricks of our trades & crafts to make life a little better for us and our families. That was seriously entertaining. Please if you can make some "russian slice of life video" don't hesitate. I live in a country where, unlike russia, scandi, canada/us there is no real rural town or wilderness (france) and man, i would say you are not acting when you are all walking in town wearing camo clothing. You all live a very physical life to the point i wonder how do you find that energy. i envy your lifestyle, but i'm a bit afraid of "the big jump" lol. ps: that "stupid" ending was hilarious.

We were both soldiers in NATO countries, so I think we thought a lot of the same things about Russia many years ago. Now I think you can find awesome people and not so awesome people anywhere in the world you want to go.

The village you showed us isn't really much different from small towns here in America. The little town I live near has no bars, shopping malls, or fast-food places, either. Not that we need them. You mentioned your adventures in learning to speak Russian. I went through a similar struggle to learn English. I can spell English words far more easily than I can say them. But, the real silliness begins when my friends try to learn German from me. Some words in one language just do not translate well (or at all) to the other. Other times, they hear what they want, no matter how goofy it may sound. One example: If I say "bitte", some hear it as "beater" or something else just as silly. Never mind the long, complex words...

Lars you are an original backwoodsman. Not to many people know the good things that you do everyday to survive there is twice as much work you have to do however the hours are the same everyday the knowledge you gain from being self sufficient is worth more than money. This world needs more people like you and your family. May God bless the people of Russia and your family.

Well done Lars, living in your new home community. The cable tripod is a very good field expedient, that should prove stable in harsh weather. Your are correct, regardless of how much research and reading you do about your new target country, there are social surprises. Your wife is well educated and a good guide through the social and government administrative mazes. Often, many surprises. Very heartening to see you greet the locals as good friends: the outsider must make all the effort. Question. Social interaction - what community social events are there. [Here in our little rural Thai village our social events are weddings, funerals and Buddhist Temple giving day - party time, community cooking & concert. Neighbours do not visit for meals because of the return social obligation.] Great to see the Pink & Blue ninjas about with their guard dog. Regards to all in the SR Team from Greg in Thailand

No pubs, no discos.... that is awesome indeed. I really enjoyed this very much. Awesome to see the rural Russian life....not unlike places here in the Southern US rural agriculture areas. LOL...dropping the can in the burn barrel was a hoot. Things are a bit colder here than usual for this time of year so the burn barrel looks inviting. Cooking me up a big pot of mustard greens and watching Survival Russia. Thanks for sharing a day in your life.

Not much different here either. Meeting a friend tomorrow that collects scrap metal and sells it for cash. Just something she does on the side. We have people here that make a living picking brush for floral buyers and mushrooms for the market.

@@riverrat1149 We have seed and nut pickers here. They could really do well in my driveway. I have a red oak that has dropped at least a 1,000 lbs of acorns in the yard and drive. A lot of people pick all kinds of tree seeds and get darn good money for them.

Awesome video Lars, nice to see the daily life there. Well, in Russia distance is relative I've noticed the times I was there. Upon asking how far our travel would be, they answered; "oh not far it is close". End of the day I traveled like 6 hours, 3 hours to destination and 3 hours back.

Yeah, 3 hours drive in Russia is "just" a drive within same oblast/republic, while say in europe you can drive across some countries in 3 hours.

@Michael Smith True, US is pretty big too. Plus they have a bunch of major cities on both ends of the country, so those multiple day trips are somewhat common. While in Russia we mostly travel within western part of the country, which can take some time but not as much.

Awesome. My first view into Russian life "in the sticks" so to speak. This is obviously real and not "framed" to mislead. Your dialog enhances everything. Your children are a warm addition. Explaining things Russian...phrases and sayings...respect for Russians who don't want to be photographed. Introduce us more to what is there and who is there. ( do you actually call her a pink ninja?)

I liked the look of the area where you live and you all do live in a really small area and the repair you are making to your electric line is something done by the electric companies here. The one in my area provides the poles, and put up the lines for you to your house, but some companies charge extra for putting up the lines and you have to find a contractor to put up the poles first. Some of the metal in the ground there may have been there since World War II when the German and Russian military was fighting in many areas. You do stay busy each day and I know that you all collect scrap metal to survive there like some do here in this country. When I was growing up and living with my grandparents we had it tough and we learned how to live off the land. My grandfather use to hunt for deer and fish for catfish, and other fish and our local game warden helped us out also by giving us fish and processed deer meat he took from those hunting without a hunting license. I was thinking about the people here in switzerland, driving about for Urban commuting in Landrover defenders and such, then hearing your Neighbour say "Russian Autobahn", was just hilarious. Hearing you talk about how some people collect berries, some fish, some hunt etc reminds me of times gone by when everyone made,cooked or grew something and would trade their produce with other people crom the settlement for other things they needed. That how communities started 💯 Look at some of them now !!! Where did they go wrong

Have to leave a comment for that foam bottle blowing. When i was just a kid working on a construction site i accidentally spiked a urethane foam bottle with a crowbar and all hell broke loose. My pants were covered of the foam and first time in my life i understood how sticky that stuff is :D Work mates did have good laughs

Nice. You need to live in Russia for at least 10 years before one even begins to understand the place and you won't achieve that in the cocoon of a city like Moscow. Village life is completely different when well outside of a large city, there is good and bad as everywhere else, but I witnessed a lot of alcoholism mainly due to men having no real jobs after the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, folk just get on with it and try to find away to put food on the table and keep themselves warm during the long winters. Yes, I have fallen for that old trick - 'Это не далеко' (it is not far) and an hour or so later, reach the destination. In the end I would ask, how many kilometres and when I got an answer, I would then ask, 'are those European Kilometres or Russian kilometres'. It is like the Norwegian Army would say, 'We're going skiing today, it is only 5 miles''. Then, we would find out that one Norwegian mile equates to 12 of ours so, 60 miles when you're expecting 5 is hard going. The Blue Ninja likes to Bla Bla Bla too only louder than his Dad. LOL.

Lars, you really have to stop apologizing mate. You graciously 'take' us with you and share more of your life than some 'friends' do. This is 'Survival Russia', and you show us, share with us what ever the heck you want mate. Thats actually why is support you on Patreon. You come across as a genuine fellow thats doing what he must to survive and sharing your experiences as you go. It is very muchly appreciated :). I actually threw out my television about 4 years ago, and ditched facebook because of all the crap on the Main Stream Media (msm). With KZfaq (yt), i can get the 'news' from the source country, and believeme when i say that very little is as they (msm) portray it. So yeah, being 'Down Under' as summer is starting up, 35c plus on average, it is nice to see some snow and frost on the ground to help take the heat out of the day. lol. Anyway, enough ranting from me. I look forward to your 'tra la la la-ing'. It is entertaining mate. Helps give us an insight into whom you are as a person. 2:20 ...chaga collecting, we shipped well over 2,000 lbs to Toronto over 2 seasons...Bobcat uses climbing spurs, I search for terrain on Google Earth, and gps us into the spots...big woodstove in the "living" room, perfect to dry the big black crusts in one piece...black spruce tree cone picking contract time right now...

Whenever my friends travel I always tell them "don't send me pics of the tourist traps... send me pics of real things... like, a drive down an average street... what do the gas stations look like?.. show me some of the local towns. This was such a fun video. I love seeing the small towns and vehicles as well as the ways that people are different and yet a lot the same. The back country is fascinating, there is so much empty land there. Thank you so much for showing us that we really don't know so much as we think we do about other countries, just what we hear second or third hand. The burn barrel ending was pretty awesome as well!

Interesting! I live in the Northern USA, Lat 45, and we participate in some of the same activities, recycling metals, using firwood, etc. Of course, markets to buy anything are within a few kilometers and even our backroads are like freeways compared to your roads. I do like your collection of vehicles, they seem very durable. Your vegetation and land are very similar to Northern MN, USA.

After watching several other of your videos I have got say; It looks like you did more than just move out of the city... From an American suburban (city) perspective, it looks like you moved out of this century, and back about 150 years! I grew up in the woods some 50 odd years ago. We had some abandoned, and collapsing log cabins in the woods, and a big scrap pile from at least the late 1800 to early 1900's also hiding in the woods. Now of course it has been over run by big city sprawl and expansion. Most of the forests and farm fields are now gone... Everything is concrete and modern...I miss the woods.. I am so jealous that you have the ability to drive anywhere you want to off road, all that land, all those woods, and the gulags to explore wherever and whenever you want.. I am also saddened by the fact that city life has softened me, and physical injury has weakened me and I could not survive that kind of lifestyle. Growing up in Chicago in the 50's/60's I and a friend wandered around collecting pop bottles to turn in at the store for money to buy - CANDY! No scrap metal to collect LoL

I like it that you were just running right over the brush through the woods LOL you would make a perfect Michigan farmer like us hahaha. Of anything that you said though, I like that at the end of the video you said get out and do something awesome. That is the best way to go about a day.

I am not sure about the climate of Russia, but here in SC (United States) the air is almost always humid, so wooden poles tend to rot very quickly. I do not know how well it will help you, but if you could char the first foot of the poles it will preserve the wood and protect it from the moisture.

Lars, you don't have to apologize for the noise in your videos - that is what makes them real and unique - the wind, the sound of the kids and so on, you are SR, not ILM (Industrial Light & Magic). I've got notification on my phone for new video, started watching it and then - noise, brutal New York honking cars noise. Looked through the window - traffic bumper to bumper because of 4 inches of snow. So now hours later I am watching the video again on the "big screen".

I had a good friend who worked on the Drushba-Pipeline in the 80's during DDR-Times. He also told me everytime about the little houses, Trappers with Shotguns deep in the woods, the history etc. It's a fascinating country. TY for your Videos Lars

@@danilogaleotti362 448 kilometers Northeast of Sioux Lookout, Ontario and along the Asheweig River. Black Spruce and small. There is pine as well but nothing grows big up here. Cheers Fred

The area you live reminds me of my growing up...at least the people and the attitudes...I am in the Tennessee hills. My parents grew over 2 acres of garden and I would get sent through the neighbor hood with some sort of vegetable to give to many of the elderly, and when we had surplus, others would get to come pick a mess of whatever was in season. My folks would sit at night and break beans and such and we kept the worst looking and mom would give the ones without blemish to others. They were conservative hard working people who helped the community and in return, we never lacked for help doing things nor did we ever lack for food. First time I ever tasted pizza was when I started high school. So yes, I see a lot of similarities in Rural America and where you live. I am back in the country now after living in other places. In the cities, neighbors would run from you if you said hello....

You should put wedges on the side of that windmill and push it over and reuse that wood and metal. It would be safer than letting fall on its own.

Great. I must say, that when I wast studying Russian (in a youth education, like 4 - 5 classes a week, for 3 years.) I actually found it more logical than German in some ways, even difficult, because many of the words, and the alphabet, of cause are totally different, as many German words are quite, or in some way, similar to Danish equivalents. I mean, not so many exceptions to the grammar rules and so, IMHO. In some ways, I actually liked that. It also ended up being there I got the highest grades at all, despite being on the "mathematical line", but that was thanks to my teacher. She was AWESOME, to say the least. Just wanted to mention. Nice day and video!!! :o)
