Today’s case is on Yuka Takaoka - a young woman from Tokyo who had fallen obsessively in love with Phoenix Luna, a popular employee of a Japanese host bar. Just months after they met, she would go viral on social media for brutally stabbing him in his sleep.

Anyone else find it bizarre that if the victim doesn’t d1e the sentence is significantly less? Like who cares if they were successful or not, their intentions were clear; the victim & hospital staff just did their best/ got lucky that day. She clearly had no remorse to just sit there, waiting for him to d1e without coming to her senses and getting help. Great video and Eleanor looks radiant ✨

The fact that they get lighter sentences because the victim survives despite usually needing to be hospitalized. Like the physical, mental and emotional trauma following someone's attempted murder is horrifying. My former step dad was stabbed in his 20s and spent MONTHS in the hospital. He still to this day has problems because of the damage and the only reason his attacker won't be getting out of jail is because he was killed in prison
@VioletJoy

Well, to be fair, it seems appropriate to have harsher sentences for murder rather than attempted murder.
@t3hpenguinofd00m
@t3hpenguinofd00m 7 ай бұрын
This is kind of how all sentencing works, though. Take drunk driving, for instance. The penalty for drunk driving is significantly harsher when it results in a death or in multiple deaths, compared to instances where nobody is harmed. This is a little unfair of course, because it does to some extent punish people for things outside of their control. But there's really no other way to organize the legal system. Juries can only make a call based on the actual facts of the case in front of them.

I've listened to this specific case multiple times and you are the ONLY person who hasn't called that poor dude "scummy". Usually I hear people call him a "player" and I'm so glad SOMEONE actually accepts what his job was

Phoenix sounds like such a compassionate person, asking for leniency for the person who attempted to kill him. I could never. I hope that the rest of his life is peaceful and kind, and I'm glad that he at least got to reunite with some of his family because of this. As for Yuka... I really hope that, since she got such a light sentence, she really *was* able to be rehabilitated, for the sake of the public.

Hi Eleanor, I'm sorry to keep bringing this up but I would be over the moon if you would consider doing this specific Swedish case at Malmölatinskola and sharing these vitcim's names and stories, Victoria Edström and Sara Böök. This case really hits close to home as they were my old teachers..and it's still affecting me even after graduating. But it breaks my heart because no-one (not even in our country) is talking about them, they were so lovely and deserve to be known across the world. But also that the defence lawyer was really trying to excuse everything with autism which makes my blood BOIL. I know I've brought it up multiple times but I hope you might consider it. But I am just pushing my luck at this point, hope you understand. May also sound a bit selfish but I think it might being sole closure to know that people are talking about them again. Thank you as always for doing these cases. What you're doing is so so important and that you give so much respect towards the victims. All the love x

i looked up the case and there’s not much about it. the crime is known (somewhat), but motive isn’t and the student, who isn’t even identified as anything beyond “male” has been given one of the longest sentences in swedish history. it may be that there just isn’t enough for her to make a video on. but hey i looked them up based on your comment, so you’re being the one spreading awareness. and it’s easy to see why this case incites such angry feelings in you, it left me feeling angry as well. so brutal and useless … i hope you find some healing from the event, over time, while never forgetting them. have a lovely day
@mentallydisturbedllama473

@@machine_maggot I don't know if it's because you have to search in the native language but I know from my research that there is quite a lot of information out there, a motive has sort of been made but it's not clear, and Fabian Cederholm (🤮) was the attacker. I understand that there isn't as much out there as there are in other cases but there is quite a bit out there..but I do understand though but either way I'd love to help out with information and translation if it was needed. But yeah..I'm trying my best to spread the awareness so I'm glad that's seen, it's hardly mentioned at all, let alone in the city it actually happened. It's affecting many still, myself included. And despite the justice system for once actually giving justice (which I'm so grateful for) their names aren't being mentioned or remembered which breaks my heart because they were so lovely.. But yeah, thank you so much for your comment and for what you've said, it's a long journey but taken one day at a time. I hope you have a lovely day too. ❤️

yet this is the vid with zero insight and knowledge of situation and ommiting facts or straight mumbo jumbo misunderstanding them i enjoy this channel and one mistake won't change it, but eleanor and the team should avoid cases from different cultures if they aren't willing to dive into it fully... don't want anyone accuse of making clickbait shallow stuff, because i don't think that was the intention, but the result is not good still, as i said, i enjoy this channel alot

This case is a perfect example of pretty privilege. Resorting to violence in the name of love I feel is often seen as justified or romantic but if she wasn’t conventionally attractive it wouldn’t be like this. And I say that as someone who has been in therapy for over 10 years learning how to love properly and work on myself. I can absolutely still relate to that feeling of feeling so deeply for someone. But I would NEVER harm someone I love because I’ve learned that’s not how it works. Conversations like this are why I’m so grateful for creators like you that open the dialogue. ❤

We talked about how strange the fanart is, but a couple years back i used to follow a bunch of cosplayers, and some of then began cosplaying AS her. I was mortified. Some of the fanfiction writers I followed too wrote fics about her. I was so disgusted. I'm so glad Phoenix Luna survived because that is terrifying. I saw somewhere recently that she actually is released and is a streamer now, but idk how true that is. Either way, it's terrifying she's still free.

There is so much misinformation and romanticizing of this case. I saw people saying stuff like "she's called the real life yandere because she killed a bunch of girls at her school for the guy she liked" or referring to pheonix as her actual boyfriend. That and idolizing her, making fan edits, it feels so gross and out of touch. Thanks for being more reliable. and also stunning ✨

As someone with BPD, the obsession with him feels all to familiar. Having a favourite person is exhausting on both ends. Something like how she described being obsessed and spiraling when they're not around. Not saying that that is normal or even an excuse, but I know how it feels to be unhealthily obsessed with someone to the point it becomes deranged. I'm not saying I would kill someone over it, but I know how it feels.

He fought his way out of hell and survived- he went back to work and continued to do what he enjoyed, welcomed back into the arms of the family he had made there. He is an incredibly strong person, and I think that is the most important part of this case. A young man almost died, but he pushed through and survived.

Would you consider covering the brutal murder of our previous teachers at malmölatinskola (Victoria Edström and Sara Böök) and also the outrageous claims of the defence lawyer (Anders Elison), trying to excuse a planned double murder with autism.. These women deserve to be known world wide..and their stories too..they were so lovely and deserve to be known, especially as it's a Swedish case it isn't really talked about.. not even in Sweden anymore. Might sound selfish but also for some sort of closure..? I think it could bring quite a bit of peace knowing people are talking about them..

I am Japanese and impressed by how much research she have done! Especially our weird yet popular culture about host club. Respectfuly, and hopefully allow myself to add some more details for some people who into this case. Runa He went back to work after this happen, because he "didn't have anywhere else but the club". As my search he is not selling him self as "pretty one". He became #1 host some month because of only she made him one. He made her pay all of expense outside and inside of club and he told her to want to married with her one day(According to Takaoka Yuka). She just hold on to the promise when he was a bit off to her. And quite her bar management and started to work as sex worker to make more money for him. But she never told him about sex worker thing because she afraid that he won't be happy about it. And she also worked as "Papa-katsu" which is hang out with order rich man and earn money. According to her states, Runa beat her occasionally but I don't no if that is truth. She was mentally unstable quite some time in the past. And Runa is definitely uses her for money. I am not support her at all, all she've done is horrible and nerve ok. But this Japanese culture host club, floating some people for money, this is the main cause of problem.

I living in japan and I agree with you. I really do not like the whole host club culture as it is selling a fantasy that many people just buy and then guys just sail by on the girls money. Sadly the visual kei industry, in which most of my friends are, is the same and many people in the industry work in host clubs as well. Girls are obsessed because they make false promises and hide other relationships, sometimes even marriages, to keep the fantasy alive. It is a horrible culture. However, the girls know and they decide to buy into it (literally) anyway. It is an open secret and the number one rule a hostess club owner once told me when we had a casual chat was: "If they really like you, they use their free time to hang out with you and will never ask you to come to their club or support them financially. They earn enough in their job without you". This stuck with me and it is the rule I have been living by here in Japan. It is a dangerous game they play but at worst case scenario it is worth slapping them (or better yourself) silly for all the lies you bought into and never murder. If every girl who has supported a host financially for a long time would try to murder the host, there would be no hosts left.
