One thing that nobody says about this Real Madrid side and their strong winning mentality is that they practice it, and they have been practicing it every weekend for most of the last 4 years. When you look at what top teams in England and Germany have been doing every weekend, and then you look at what Real Madrid has been doing since Cristiano Ronaldo left, you'll notice that most Real Madrid games go down to the wire at lot more than Manchester City, Liverpool and/or Bayern games. Real Madrid lost Cristiano Ronaldo and his 50+ yearly goal tally very abruptly, and despite signing Eden Hazard, Real Madrid has found it very difficult to consistently score enough goals to win comfortably. For the most part of the last 4 years, every weekend, when the clock approaches the 85th minute, Real Madrid is most likely either protecting a very slim lead, having yet to score or having to come back. Week in and week out they've struggled to put enough goals to feel safe, so they never do feel safe; they play their every game from whistle to whistle knowing that those final minutes are the most important ones. They all know that how you perform in those final minutes determines whether or not you take the points home, and Real Madrid is ALWAYS expected to take the points home. Week in, week out, this habit of winning slimly and winning late has left an indelible mark on their character. This year, Vini Jr, Rodrygo and Camavinga have given Real Madrid the last bit of edge they needed to be an elite winning squad. Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern, these teams are all used to comfortably sealing wins before the dying minutes of the game. Real Madrid, due to a simple lack of quality and due to playing in a much more defensive league, have had no choice, but to build the unbreakable mentality required overcome their rivals in the dying minutes. A lot of people attribute this Real Madrid's run of epic comebacks to lofty ideas of club glory and football heritage-which obviously do play a part-but the thing that top teams in Europe often lack, that this Real Madrid has bags of is grit.

Man that is a very interesting take, spot on. Never saw it that way. At least we took away something valuable from many of those matches in which we suffered as dogs to get a win haha. It is also worth mentioning that whenever RM arrives in any town or city, it is a big deal, and most teams will have an extra motivation to beat us.

Madrid's mentality of signing young comes from way back. Casemiro was signed when he was 19 or something (even marcelo, varane, ramos, carvajal, casemiro, benzema, isco, asensio, lucas were all signed before they were 22). But probably this shift came more prominently with the signing of Odeegard, as Perez realized that City and PSG were going to blow up the market with their oil.

Messi won the Balon Dor with some amazing performances.. I look back at that time fondly. Every player at Real Madrid that's older than 23 has either won or participated in tons of finals for both club and country. Kroos has 4 UCLs, Bundesliga, Pokkal Cup, World Cup and even Euros and sub 21. Modric has World Cup final, 4 UCLs, 1 Ballon D'Or, several league titles. Casemiro has 3 UCLs, Copa America, La Liga. Benzema was the bridge between old Galacticos and the second Galacticos era... he got some of his best goals playing with Guti... He has little accolades with France for obvious reasons but has tons of merit with both Lyon and Real Madrid. He's been forever at the club. Alaba won everything with Bayern. Carvajal is out of fitness but still has tons of experience both club and country. Even the bench themselves have accolades galore. Nacho and Lucas Vasquez know damn well what the weight of the shirt is, they are work horses and extremely talented. Then we have the rest of the bench which includes... Bale, Hazard, Isco, Asensio... the least experienced player is probably Vallejo and he is a great young talent. They have way more experience at tournaments and winning than ANYONE else in modern football. No other team assembled has this amount of experience in their squad and has a combination of this many young talent. Credit to Rodrygo and Vini who are young, willing to learn and HUNGRY (everything Neymar wasn't).

Real Madrid are in transition but people forget how peak Real Madrid was with Cristiano Ronaldo & the rest. Real Madrid was facing a peak Barca who was all about possession, chance creation & took their chances way more than this current Man C. In order to face such a style & team, Real Madrid perfected their edge, they had a style of doing more damage in few moments or minutes than a team that had most of the possession or chances. People say it's not a great team, I think it's the best team atm cause it can do more damage in 2min than 90min of "dominance" (what so called pundits deem it as) by one of the best teams in the world. Liverpool cannot do what Real Madrid does, they cannot outdamage Man C with so little chances. People don't understand football that the best team is not the one with most possession or chances but the one who scores the most, football is won through goals... Real Madrid try to blunt the fangs of other teams while sharpening their fangs & waiting for the moment to fully kill the enemy, to leave them hopeless. They outdid 90min of Man City in 2min, that's Real Madrid & in 10 min they tripled the damage.

Fantastic video, Adrian. It's absolutely true about the Madrid squad that they like a certain type of manager. This is arguably the most successful Real Madrid team in history and the most successful coaches in this spell have been Zidane and Ancelotti. Both of them are masters of man management. While yes, Mourinho built this side from the ground up with a stern tactical approach and an underdog mentality, but I doubt he would be a great fit for the current iteration of the squad. For every master tactician such as Guardiola, Tuchel, or Conte, you do have a man management expert such as Zidane and Ancelotti. Different sides benefit from different types of managers, and the current ones work best for Madrid.

I think a lot of people ignore the Growth Florentino has had in terms of leading a Club. Ignoring the whole Superleague. Just looking at Real and how the club evolved. Florentino Started as your tipical Football Boss on the helm of a team with a shit ton of cash. Basically his Galáctico era was sign big flashy players ignoring the football side of things And what happened? Florentino himself admired his mistake of letting the players take control. Upon his return Florentino seem to do the same by signing a shit ton of players yet again But that quickly stopped Real would become pretty conservative on the mark Spending big every 2-3 summers While buying Yong players or years on offer the rest of the time Now the focus on Yong Pyers is greater than ever. Aslo we see Floren no longer getting bent by players The moment a player stops working for the club or gets greedy They get out Regardless if they are Cristiano or Ramos Also I noticed that Real is a lot more patient with it's players Back in the day you got sold and replaced afther one weak season, now it's no longer the case, the same goes with the managers. As long as they keep the dressing room, even not winning anything dosen't necessarly mean they are gonna get fired. Lastly, there is an emphasis on protecting Yong talent, this is relatively new,but unlike many other big clubs, Florentino has made it his responsibility to protect the younger players from media pressure Hate the guy all you like I'm Real Fan and I disagree with his idea of a Superleague But as for what he has done for real and what he still does He is one of our greatest presidents and has aways shown to greatly care about the club and it's future

When Cristiano left I felt relieved it wouldn't happen even if it was at the cost of struggling for 1 or 2 seasons in the league and missing the remaining 1 or 2 prime Cristiano years. The club must outlive the players, it can't become overly attached to any of them.

I think that style of Ancelotti is what worked for Valverde at Barcelona. He'd let the players have their say and if you see Barca's game under him, it's like the players were doing their own thing and it did get results. The difference was that Barcelona always crumbled under pressure. With Messi and Ter Stegen at their peaks, most games they'd demolish teams even tho they weren't as slick and sometimes like with the 1st leg against Liverpool, be outplayed and yet win convincingly.I think that's a nice comparison to make and further emphasises how important a strong mentality is

Even when the world mocked , laughed, ridiculed and when the Team was down on the last breath virtually beaten they refused to give up . That’s the spirit of Real Madrid, never give up even when the odds and whole world against is you . That’s the Los Merengues Aka Los vikingos way . We are football heritage, it can’t be bought or sold . It’s something that’s from inside , something that’s forged through blood , sweat and extreme perseverance. !Hala Madrid! Love the video, but I do hate to see people deduce Carlo Ancelotti to simply “a man manager” While he might not be as outspoken as managers like Mourinho, Klopp or Conte, or have some sort of philosophy tied to his game like Pep Guardiola, when looking at his entire career that spans over 25 years, you’ll notice that not only has he more than proven his status as an elite tactician, but also as one of the most adaptable/versatile manager of his generation, if not of all time. Much like his man management skills, there isn’t a manager that I can think of better at looking at whatever his squad is and finding a formation/style that gets the best out of them REGARDLESS of it’s deficiencies(one of the most famous examples of this would be his implementation of the “Christmas Tree” formation he popularized during his time at Milan). It is VERY easy to forget that despite the sensational form of Benzema in the post Ronaldo era, this was in fact a Real Madrid team that still struggled to score goals last season, having a particularly difficult time against oppositions that played in a low block. In response to the growing concerns that the club would continue to struggle even more going into this season as a result of not signing another forward, Ancelotti was quoted in responding : “It's not about signing a proven striker who scores 30 goals, but about implementing an offensive system and mentality, the lack of goals is an issue that can be resolved systematically” Real Madrid have done EXACTLY this and it’s no question as to how. This is a Real Madrid team that’s VERY different from ones of the past, the “big egos” of Galacticos like Ronaldo, Ramos, Casillas or Bale(even though he’s still in the squad) are simply not present in this edition. The least of Ancelotti’s job for this Madrid squad has been “managing egos” or personas and more to do with the task of implementing a system that solves problems of the past(scoring more, breaking down low blocks) along with integrating and further developing the younger and more inexperienced players that the club invested in(Vini, Rodrygo, Militao, Camavinga) He’s done an exemplary job at doing that, and he deserves a lot more credit than people are giving him.

The big difference at Real Madrid is that at the Bernabéu, the players work for the history of the club, and appear in it. It's not just tactics, but technique, courage with a single purpose, to add to the club's history. An example is that at the Bernabeu Cristinano was whistled when he did badly, something that never happened with Mesi at Barcelona. There are no myths but when they add to the history and when they no longer play. In the meantime, to work and to add victories, otherwise, no matter how good you are, you will be out. Madrid's philosophy

It is a hard mentally work. Just an example: in valdedebas Training center, there are three buildings. First and second building are for younger categories, and third for professionals. You can read messages on the walks like “if you read this is because you still need to work harder to reach a room upstairs” That’s the mentality.

Real Madrid is surely the club under more pressure, not just because they are expected to win as any other big club, but because of the media pressure. Club and players are always under constant media scrutiny and everything is magnified. Spanish media tend to be very very harsh and destructive with the club, almost every RMA player have been disrespected, despised and insulted on national media. Modric was so bad signing he was even named worst signing in LaLiga at the time. Bezema was not a striker for RMA and had no personality. Pundits still laugh at Vinicius almost on a daily basis. And I won’t even mention what they have said about Cristiano and Bale since they arrived. And same for managers, Zidane just made lineups, but he happened to have luck for 3 years, Mourinho was even called nazi. I can imagine this is a lot of pressure for the players. Of course many struggle, can't stand it and end up leaving the club, but those who stay, turn out to have that mental strength not every player has. They surely feel the need to team up and prove others wrong. Bayern, Liverpool, United, AC Milan, Juve, Barça, etc. all other giants are not under the same pressure, because the national media is not as destructive and disrespectful as the spanish media is in Madrid. Combine this mental strength, the history of the club, and the fans always wanting you to fight until the end, and maybe you can get a season as incredible as this one. As they say: hasta el final, vamos Real! Anyway, do not forget not every year is like this.

Recently, the CIES Football Observatory reported a ranking with the european clubs according to their net spending (spent - income) on transfer operations concluded over the last ten seasons. MUnited, City and PSG top the table with a negative balance of more than one billion euro. Real Madrid ranks 25th with 178M€ net transfer spent (1163M€ spent and 984M€ income). Clubs like Leicester, Wolverhamptom, Brighton, Napoli or Wolfsburg have spent more than Real Madrid over the last ten years. They have made, along with Bayern, way less signings than any other big club in Europe. We all know what RMA achieved these years. They are also always top 3 in revenue and in most valuable clubs lists, but media narrative usually tells us that Real Madrid is the bigger spender in the world and a club used to waste tons of money close to bankruptcy 🤦‍♂️ I remember Perez saying transfer fees are investments, while wages are expenses. They seem to work with that premise, and I think it worked out quite well for them.

Hala Madrid ! I still get a sense that proper credit is not being given to both Ancellotti and Zidane. Ancellotti had a solid game plan and made the proper adjustments to win in these 2nd legs of the UCL. A great manager is open to receiving input from veteran players. The Man City 2nd leg upset was very revealing. Prior to the beginning of extra time, Carlos was cool, calm and reassuring, whereas Pep was high strung, giving lots of instructions and had a desperate, manic quality about him. Sometimes less is more and at the elite levels it’s about people skills.

I think Haaland knew that going to Real, would mean that he would not play in his favoured position. It's highly unlikely that he would/could take Karim's place at this stage. Coupled with the possible signing of Mbappe. Competition would be too high, whereas City doesn't have a number 9. Makes sense from a sporting perspective, of cause the financial reason can't be overlooked.

11:08 I'm always annoyed when I hear people say this, to me this is clear indication of someone not actually having watched Ancelotti/his teams enough. Simple logic here, you cannot have the career carlo has had without being brilliant tactically. He's known as the professor (tite before joining Brazil, said he went to Europe to learn the 433/442 under carlo). Another logic, you don't get handed over good squad if you haven't proven yourself. I guess what happens is, people look at his excellent man management & sort of ignore the rest. You cannot be this successful by man management alone. Simple.

If you think about the form since Liverpool vs Manchester City at the Etihad , Liverpool have played better in the 2nd half then the 1st. The have played like headless chickens mostly in the 1st halves and needed tough love by Jurgen at half time . So I think Liverpool need to play defensively for the 1st half in the Final to throw Real off their game plan and play the second half to win 1-0 like a Jose Mourinho esqe .

Tactics not his strength? A bit strange to make a claim like that, only because Ancelotti seems to have a more relaxed personality. At this level I don't think that there are too many differences in coaches' tactical abilities and we could see that in the recent UCL final. Also keep in mind that he is Italian, and they are known to be specialists in tactics. I can also recall a statement of Ancelotti in an interview some years ago when he said that he often spoke to Arrigo Sacchi before important matches. Ancelotti is just different to other coaches. Klopp, Guardiola, Mourinho etc. are much more present in the media and they also are more extrovert types. I think it is just a matter of perception. But of course Ancelottis man management and leadership type is more relaxed but also puts more responsibility on the players. If he asks them for their opinion they will feel much more connected and involved. That might make the players take even higher efforts to be successful. That's how you lead, that's how you build a team.
