"I know he can sing a little bit"? A little bit? That's either the understatement of the year, or you haven't heard him sing much. :) Ren has incredible vocals! Capable of multiple voices, styles and tones and always drenched with emotion. :) Ironically, having said that, this is one of my least favourite Ren tracks, largely because it's lacking that real emotion. It's a slick performance and I still like it. It just feels a bit mainstream, run of the mill, generic R&B, to me. Perhaps it's partly the song itself? It sounded like a watered down version of a great Massive Attack track, just not as engaging. I'll have to check it out, to see. As I said, it's done beautifully. It just lacked that 'oomph' or that emotional or intellectual depth, for me. It's ok... I enjoyed Ren's mini guitar solos and the little guitar-bass jam. Even if the cameraman was too fixated on the backing singers to show us much of that. Things improved from the rap onwards, I thought. His performance of Message in a Bottle was great. I suppose I would have preferred more of that and less of Back in 74, lol. :)
