Life hack for a stinky garbage disposal. Next time you peel an orange lemon rip it into parts no bigger than a square inch just throw it down the disposal and run it with hot water.

the tape it work.but not work on high pressure.if the leak is small.sometimes waterproof electrical tape do the same trick on pipe.but this is not a long-term solution.

Roger, I am physically disabled and have a very difficult time using a standard plunger. I am a fan of the SurePlunge CO2 plunger. This plunger uses a CO2 cartridge instead of physical strength to compress the air and force the clog out. This product is not cheap at a cost of $50 but it allows me to fix the problem myself. It is CRITICAL that you create a good seal prior to firing the plunger or water, etc, can and will fly everywhere. I have never experienced this situation can only imagine what would happen if you use this product incorrectly.

Good on you for finding a solution man, it’s always great to stay as mobile as possible! For those who are lucky enough to have their full strength a plunger would probably be sufficient, but you’ve shown a true use for something that others might think is useless

I’m sure he wasn’t thinking about the few that can’t use a plunger, but I’m glad you found something you can use. I’m 42 and I have Parkinson’s and I’m finding I can’t do things that I used to.

A while back, someone explained to me why "As Seen on TV" type stuff advertises the way they do. A lot of products *ARE* fantastic for people with various disabilities & or injuries, but they want to make money off more than just the ones who actually *need* those types of products. For example, that "E-Z Pour" thing you put a plastic milk/juice jug in so that you don't have to carry/hold/control a heavy jug. The ad shows able-bodied people using it, (which is why people tend to think a product is silly/useless) yet if you have any issues with pain, weakness, & or otherwise have difficulty with even lifting a jug - it's a wonderful little tool to have. I'm glad you mentioned that it doesn't take a lot of strength to use, Frank. When the salesman's mother was trying to use both arms, I was wondering how much force/control you need to use it. $50 is a LOT, but if you are getting the "over 20 uses per can" as they say, that would indeed still be better than hurting yourself trying to use a standard plunger.

@@jaredl2239 Sort of, but if your plunger manages to clear the problem on the very first push, well...you didn't really have a clog. So the problem with a plunger is that it takes that amount of force *over and over and over* whereas there's a pretty good chance that the CO2 "plunger" will require it only once.

@@jaredl2239 You're overthinking and underestimating everything. The first several plunges with a plunger aren't even working on the clog...they're priming the plunger (which is why I say that if your clog clears on the first plunge you weren't really clogged in first place.) It's MUCH easier to hold an item down once with your palm and body weight than it it to force an item down by a stick repeatedly; one requires leaning on an object with your weight, while the other requires grip, forearm, upper arm, and upper body strength. So no...the calories burned and the force/energy exerted are in no way comparable.

The thing with FlexTape is you have to read the small print on the back that says "FlexTape should be used as a temporary emergency repair". Temporary, not actually repairing the leak.

@Goat Well its lye. Technically it does start breaking down organic matter on contact, especially in hot water. Organic matter like hair, and skin, and bone....

Or just learn to use a sink. For reasons I won't go into, there was a sink we peed in a lot at one job. Washing your hands runs enough water to get it past the trap and no smell.

I will give flex tape this. The adhesive bonds like crazy. We used some on a coolant overflow on a racecar at the track. After getting hot a few times even, i literally couldn't peel it off. The bond it made was genuinely surprising.

In all seriousness, Flex tape is probably the most legit product advertised here. I know it's a hack, and not a substitute for actually repairing the pipe. But when you replace a water heater that let go the night before a home is being sold and realize there's a tiny leak from a stubborn union that doesn't seem to want to seal no matter how tight + don't have the time or parts or experience to dig into it quickly, I was amazed that Flex tape actually held. Agree that it's not ever a legit repair, temporary at best for a pinhole leak maybe. (Only used Flex tape once, at the homeowner's request: I'm not a plumber, more of a handy man, and I was actually hauling a trailer with the family's belongings to help them move & had to start loading, and had warned them that I noticed water leaking under the WH over a week prior but was told to be quiet because the home inspector missed it, only to get a frantic call from the RE agent while on my way over to start loading asking if I could replace the WH cause it finally let go the evening before the closing/moving day.. took longer than expected cause I had to figure out the power venter setup for the new one & the thermocouple for the old vs thermo-pile on the new one had me a bit confused with one of the safety interlocks which I wanted to be 100% sure on since I was not risking causing a CO hazard.)

Those sanisticks are horrible. I do apartment maintenance, and have had to pull out many of those. One p trap i opened had atleast a dozen of those in there.

I've never used sanisticks but I could for certain almost know that they will not dissolve properly. Nearly anything that is a "stick" of some sort of "dissolvable" comfound doesn't work most of the time lol

I usually disassemble the P-Trap once a year, also hit shower drains with hot water but after some time things slowed down. So so giggles I bought some of the crystal green gobbler and it worked well. Recently I tried the liquid GG for every drain in the house, just added it to drains and left over night. Next day filled (not all at once) these areas with hot water, removed the plugs and I was amazed at the speed of the draining. So either it worked very well, or created a wormhole to another universe, I don't know. For me it just worked. Still I have my main cleanouts maintained and the septic tank pumped so at least I feel I am doing some PM. Oh and at home depot I pay 9.99 for a container of 3 packs....

I have experience with the GG, the dry stuff not the liquid and it worked SOOOOO well for a bathroom drain that took FOREVER to drain! We tried a metal snake and it pulled out hair and black goop, flow was so slow that the pipes had a thick layer of the black goop encasing the inside.. But the GG worked wonders!

Find a store that carries 9% pickling vinegar. Heat it up just shy of boiling (don't sniff it, trust me) and pour it in. The amount of crap it can dissolve is amazing, and yet it's totally food safe. Bonus; heat it in your coffeepot or electric kettle and watch how much hard water scale comes out of that in the process. Several years ago, I salvaged a Bunn commercial coffee maker with nothing but pickling vinegar. They couldn't get it to work at all, so they were giving it away in case anybody needed parts. $300 machine fixed good as new with $12 worth of vinegar and a little disassembly so as not to just chase all the scale around for hours.

Of the ones shown, if Flex Tape were to do what they claim, I feel it would be a good emergency stop gap while you call a plumper to come a fix the issue.

I mean, applying it from the water-side seems like it'd hold better than applying from the non water side, like, in the ads themselves with the barrel, or whatever it was, you see the flex tape immediately bulge out, if you apply the flex tape from the water side, instead of the water pressing the tape away from the surface, it instead is pressing the tape even more against the hole,

I worked with aluminum for 5 years, it doesn't spark when you cut it. That has always bugged me about that flextape commercial

He didn't cut that boat. Notice the noise it makes when it comes down and flops like that. If the boat was made of aluminum, the guy wouldn't even be able to lift it. That boat is made of fiberglass.

I have tried to crystal green gobbler, three packs in a can for nine bucks and it didn't work very well. I bake and I would get clogged or slow drains because of flour residue from my bread bowl. Last time I tried the green gobbler liquid and it not only cleared my drain but it gets better over time.

it works as long as the item hasn't been washed down past the p trap. It doesn't catch everything. An earring will easily disappear.

I've never used the flex tape, but the flex seal(the spray) is freaking amazing. I know a guy who works primarily on aquariums, water features, etc., and he says it is one of the greatest things in his arsenal(especially for the end user, fixing small leaks, etc.)

I have used the flex seal paint on my pool. The Skimmers were improperly installed decades ago. The soil in this area is not stable, and subsides a lot. With these two in combination, the inside of both skimmers has cracked and the water used to leak and lower the water level. I used the spray can type the first time and it held for about a year. However, the soil has subsided and the crack has widened. So the second time I used the can and a brush to apply the product. This will be an ongoing battle until I actually cut the concrete and make the appropriate repairs, but in the mean time, a $20 fix seems to me a decent temporary situation. I also used the roll on paint type on a foundation where there had been a lot of water pooling. I removed the soil from the house and maintained a proper drainage away from the house. I let the concrete foundation dry for several weeks and then applied 2 coats of the FS Paint, and haven't heard anything from the homeowner. However, I believe the drainage had a lot to do with the solution.

Flex tape is unbelievably strong, I had doubts but I fixed a massive hole in my Jon boat and that stuff won’t come off I swear is just liquid bolts 😂

The glue on the sticky side is corrosive, you would want to replace the section later. You may be wanting to check the place where you put the tape over, it would weaken the material through time.

Have tried Sami sticks, & flex seal. The Sami sticks were a meh, & didn’t really work for me. The smell was ok, but, after doing before after of kitchen p-trap.....looked the same. The flex seal did work for what I needed it for, but wasn’t using for plumbing..... Can’t wait for the vid of testing these products, gonna be fun!

They didn't explain in the ad very well, the instructions actually tell you to leave it for awhile, I think it said an hour, or for especially bad clogs overnight, and then you poor the hottest water you can down, boil water in a pot or kettle and pour it down

Hey Roger, I just finally landed an apprenticeship/helper position at a local mom and pop plumbing shop and Im super excited. Its been about a month and I havent been scared away, I actually enjoy learning the plumbing, its straightforward, the basics are easy to catch on to, and its therapeutic actually cutting and working with copper pipe fixtures. I bought the IAPMO UPC study guide but so far barely understand anything in it. Would you recommend getting textbooks, or the actual UPC book, or just get as much material to learn and learn and learn. I'm not trying to accelerate or speed up any processes cause obviously it will just take time and practice, but I'm determined to want to be a damn good plumber but I'm not sure what area I should try to focus on more attentively that most apprentices struggle in. Thank you for your time

I would say his arm has a decent amount of muscle on it, and his hand is shaking heavily. So he could probably lift a 45lb weight a few times with relative ease

Flex tape is nice when there’s a dry spot for it to cling on but it doesn’t work well on wet surfaces

Flex seal, tried the spray stuff, makes a good rubber coat, when you apply at least 2-3 cans. Modified a 1$ air pump for inflatable mattresses to pump water in an emergency, worked well. Still had leaks in the hose since it was cheap.

Now, I did see some of this used on a shower pan. The water had rotted the bottom of the subfloor and floor joists, so the previous homeowner used some of the flex tape all along the bottom of the shower pan to stop the water. When we were under the house for inspection, we noticed moisture, but not necessarily dripping or accumulation, and when the shower was on and running against the wall, there wasn't any visible water from the crawlspace either. Obviously when we removed the shower walls and pan, the wood was completely rotted and we needed to replace all of it. But it appeared to stop the water on a temporary basis. I asked the homeowner how long they had been using that in the shower, and they said they could not remember, but it had been over 6 months.

01:00 About 45 years ago (when I was but a wee lad) they had something similar to that on the market... I remember my dad used one on my grandmothers sink to remove a clog and ended up blowing the P-Trap right off the bottom of the sink (all metal pipes back then)... Needless to say my dad had to hit the hardware store and buy all the pipe to repair it...

I would be afraid to use what may be instant high pressure on these old pipes. Once I got an expanding stopper/bung for the sink overflow the small plunger I keep in the vanity works as it should.

I find it very interesting how all of these pipes the ads are clearing have absolutely smooth inner surfaces. Try any of these with a real clog with a rough inner surface, I doubt anything will move without serious pushing behind it.

I haven't used Flex Tape, but I have used Flex Seal (the spray) on a leak in my refrigerator water pipe before. Not sure if it was due to the cold temperature or it was the product itself, but it only worked a little bit. Put a lot of coats on it too.

Yes. It was an inflatable one and the bottom started to rip apart from the sides so my grandfather taped it together with waterproof silver tape and we used it all summer.

Flex tape didn't work for our 1/2" Cpvc pipe that got chewed on by something. Every time we wrapped the pipe with flexseal as a quick fix till the water valve was unburied and turned off. The water would force its way out the sides. we tried it 3 times and it continued to leak water out the side.

About the plumbers hero. I've personally busted drain lines for my bathtub years ago from plunging aggressively. so I'd imagine a device like that could wind you up in a situation like that.

I’ve cabled kitchen drains alllllllll the time and how often is the clog in someone’s sink line in the p-Trap? Neverrrrrrrrr!!!! I always get there and they have drain-o and they don’t realize that it only cleans the trap. But hey job security right 😭

I've seen a youtuber named TylerTube who did a lot with flextape, and actually seemed to have some pretty good results. Seems like a good product if you're looking for a temporary fix in emergency conditions, it's definitely not worth it as any kind of permanent fix.

1:15 hold on a sec. They press down and the clog started to move only to REVERSE a bit before it really took off. (I call bullshit on that one) Cutting the boat in half and fixing it with flextape. (I bet they had 2 boats and they just added flextape to the good boat and used that on the water)

Most impressive display was the flex putty. They used it to fix a huge log chain. They then used the chain to pull a truck and it held. I’m sure it wasn’t 100% legit but it they made it look like it was. I’m guessing the truck was moving just enough under it’s own power to take all the strain off the chain so it wouldn’t break.

PVC/HDPE pipe is seldom rated to higher than 5 psig unless its fusion welded (not glued)... so if you have a solid blockage... you could burst your pipe.

Did you notice the flex tape when he says used underwater 7:30 he puts in from the inside... Wouldn’t the pressure of the water keep it in place? yeah I’m sure that’s the first thing they’re gonna grab if they get a leak on a submarine...

That's how to fix leaking fish tanks, place a plastic bag flat over the leak on the inside, the water pressure keeps it there and hey presto no more leak.

Prior to me finding your channel and learning that my whole life was a lie in regards to which plunger is used for which situation. My wife and I had a clogged drain in the bathroom sink, the pipes were old, things rusted into place, etc. Long story short I bought a can of that green gobbler stuff from a big box store. It came with like 7 packages of the stuff. Followed all instructions on the packaging, and yet after 10 hours nothing had happened to the clog. However, we discovered that in the can the green gobbler people had included a cheap plastic snake tool thing... not going to lie that thing was 100x more effective than the powder. Also, my godfather is a plumber, so about two weeks later when the drain clogged rather quickly again I asked him for help. He fixed the piping so that I could clean the trap myself if it ever clogged... and we discovered that my beautiful 2yro was putting all sorts of stuff down the drain. He built her a little bucket based faucet so she could play with the water without damaging the houses plumbing.

I’ve got a Milwaukee Air Snake, which is essentially a battery version of the Plumbers hero. Does it work on all clogs? No. Is it super convenient when it does work? Yes. I will try that before snaking a sink or tub. We also will use a plunger sometimes, but the air snake does up to 50psi. Haven’t used flex tape, but we joke about using it all the time. We did use some flex seal to seal an old abandoned water line when we drilled in a new one through someone’s basement wall. It worked, but the consistency was way thicker than normal caulk, and didn’t come out real pretty like I can do with normal caulk or silicone. I overheard another one of our plumbers on the phone, and I believe he said he uses Green Gobbler on service calls... Also what made me want to get the Air Snake was I was watching an older plumber blow out a clogged AC condensation line with one of those co2 gadgets you can get at Ferguson. It’s a small hose with a rubber cone on it. Figured it was the same concept.
