Best camera I've ever worked with. KZfaqrs make this camera weight 10kg, but its a perfect handheld light camera. But youtubers will youtube with their gear addiction.

It’s also possible to buy a used red for around 6k from eBay with everything needed to shoot if you don’t just want the Komodo but want the larger ones

older REDs are proprietary though. In regards to media and AKS. but true, they are very cheap now. But the Komodo beats a lot of the older REDs, specifically the Scarlet & Dragon

A sony fx6 is a much better buy but i love the look of red footage so much. It pops like no other camera and i love the colors.

This camera is not for Hobbyist unless your super rich? 🤔. Me: Occupation Welder New Addiction: learning about film and cinematography. Current gear: Sony A6500 Current shoots: kids home videos. Want: Komodo 6K! can I afford it, Yes. do I need it No. Do i wants it, Yes. Advice I give myself, In life you work in order to get what makes you happy. What's the point of making 6 figures if your not enjoying it. And I'm also 40 I'm not getting any Younger to enjoy these toys. Lol. But no, this is too much for me I'll probably just get Sony A7IV or BMPCC.

Why did red choose to use the older canon batteries? Is the stock problem because they're older and probably not being mass produced like the new ones used in the c70?

I got cheap bp955 batteries and for sure not approved by Komodo, it’s about 15 usd each and it works fine. Ard 1 hr 20 mins run time per piece. Bought it from alibaba in China, so yea, any 955 will work. Theres a company in China making 50 wh bp955s (25% more than canon original ones) for abt 40 usd, I’m gonna try that one and see the run time.

This is a lovely video... It would be great if you could test out the Komodo with any of the Canon FF primes and the RF-EF speedbooster from Canon once it's out there (maybe something like the 50 1.4 EF or 85 1.8 EF?)

I appreciate the video! I’m curious if you would still recommend this camera to those looking to upgrade from the blackmagic workflow? There are many things you exemplified in your video (Dolly, tripod, wireless monitor, gimbal, etc.), but would you say the KOMODO is more important than those accessories when doing narrative work? Justin, this is the video I've been wanting for a long time. Preach to the choir brother, preach! It's like no one has budget constraints on the Gram it seems. Ha ha ha ha. Just one question, ¿can you put the GDU monitor mount on top of the smallRig NATO side handle? I just worry that the SmallRig mount is not sturdy. And I know the point is to keep things affordable and simple, but that's something I wouldn't mind splurging on. Thanks again for the vid.

the gdu monitor mount just bolts to the top of the komodo. So you wouldnt be able to go NATO

Well well, don`t run with one big cfast card only. In my opinion you need at least 2 cards and should also do a back up when a card is full. Especially when you work for large clients.

yeah i have four angelbirds in constant rotation. Client has two drives, i have my ssd for backup, plus i get ProRes proxies on the HDR Video Assist 👊🏼

With all the awesome stuff there is with RED cameras.....I hate that they only have one memory card. As rare as a failure is supposed to be, I know 3 people in 2022 who lost data for not having backups. It's hard for me to use any camera with only single slot memory after being spoiled by Sony.

I own a Red Komodo. You need sound. And frankly you need a separate sound recorder. There is no way around this, unless you’re doing music videos or a commercial advertisement with narration. (And Watson BP-915s work if you are going absolutely minimalist for weight. $30 each.)

So there is no sound input into the camera? Meaning you have to sync the audio and video in post?

@@johnaart There is a 3.5mm input, it is not the best. It is ok, but nothing I would use for a top level production. It also has a mic for scratch. Essentially, yes, you’ll be syncing in post.

@@christianjadot4459 The 3.5mm input is good enough for standard local commercials and basic company videos going on the web. You'd want better if doing higher quality gigs (cinema etc....) but if you 're shooting 4000-6000 videos that are going on the web anyways it's good enough.

Dumb question - do you break down your rig to put the camera on a gimbal? I tend to avoid larger rigs because I don't want to have to take it all apart to put on a gimbal

I heard that there is a monitor that can control komodo wirelessly. It seems to be specially made for komodo. Does anyone know? Its brand seems to be called PORTKEYS, and its model seems to be BM5 WR. If you have used it, please tell me, how does it feel to use it with komodo? I want to buy one and try it recently, thank you!

Great video but I think we all need to look at it as a whole. The camera itself in my opinion is very much overpriced. If it had a different brand name, I don't think it will get a second look from most people. I do not think the Komodo is by any means an entry level cinema camera ESPECIALLY when you compare it to Blackmagic or Z Cam. The cost of rigging for professional frequent use is closer to $3000 (minus RF lenses) but you add $3000 to the going price on eBay - $8-9k and you're spending $11k for a camera that does not have IBIS or internal ND. I just feel like that money can be spent elsewhere for comparable or better results. Personally I will rather spend that for a Canon or Sony. Just my opinion.

To say that Z-Cam & Blackmagic are in the same category as RED would be like saying a Lexus is the same as a Mercedes. The reality is, a Lexus is still a Toyota under the hood. 👊🏼
