Yes, I drive something a mere 14 years old! A 2004 Subaru Legacy (Liberty) Spec B 3.0 H6 estate, which is a sort of Supergramps Lite for all the Mighty Car Mods fans. No turbo here, but no snapped driveshafts either... ;-)
This is also the first road test I have conducted with the assistance of an exceedingly well-behaved (and camera shy) small child.
Don't forget to head to hubnut.org and find your way to our store for all the latest exciting merchandise! We've got three varieties of sticker now. THREE!

Love the Legacy, was such a svelte car at the time and now they're criminally cheap! A hidden gem in the used market. The alloys are from a much newer Subaru XV.

It's good, lets us have the fun until other fools catch on far too late, when these will be scarce or in hands of loving owners who will never let it go, so it will join the club or japanese sporty specials and cost 5 times as much as it does now.

I like the look of it all apart from the front bumper, but really, the GC8 was their only decent car, my ex had a Club Spec Evo 4 with a VF34 and 23psi, god I loved that thing, till the box blew after like 3 or 4 weeks and she was driving it totally normally

For a 14 year old car it still look really modern inside and out those seats look similar to the Ford Mondeo. You can really see the toque when you first pulled away I thought you wasn’t hanging about. The owner Mike was cool 😎. Thanks for another great video.

Im on my second spec b, theyre bulletproof, both saloons. Fantastic cars, the noise is addictive. O - 60 is 6.5 seconds and with si drive (face lifted model 2006 onwards) 34 mpg is regularly achievable. Do not be tempted by a 5 speed auto spec b as it limits the full potential of this car. 4wd is also a fantrastic feature, I was going places 4wd crossovers and some suvs couldn't during the heavy snow this winter on premium all season tyres. Great used car prices £2.5K - £7K gets you one. Anyway that's enough from me - other 4wd sporty cars are available, theyre just not as quirky or rare as the spec b.

Great vlog. I have the 2017 version of this car. When I look inside, nothing much has changed rather just upgraded, but it does include the Eyesight drive assist setup, but alas the rimless windows are gone. This is my 3rd Subaru, which previously included a 1974 Leone sedan and a 1984 Leone Sportswagon with 2WD and 4WD (replete with high and low range) and both these cars had the rimless glass.

I adore these, always fancied either exactly the same as this one or a bog-standard 2.0 saloon. As an apprentice at the local dealer I got good at changing lower arm bushes (they go through them fairly quickly) and setting up suspension geometry. Very satisfying to get perfect, transforms the handling with it all lined up! Still one of my favourite cars to drive! The rear spark plugs are extra fun to change however.....

I not too long ago bought a 98 Legacy GT-B Twin Turbo Manual. 280bhp from Factory, Bilstein suspension from Factory. And weighs just over 1400KG. That's the same as a modern day Golf. It's more fun to drive than Imprezas I have owned in the past because of how effortlessly it gains speed, and surprisingly it's flatter in the corners too.

Owning a 2005 Liberty 3.0r spec.B H6 6mt is honestly a god send. For only $7000 (AUD) and 150,000km on the clock its such a great deal. Only issue being previous owners destroyed the clutch, but you'll understand why if you read into what these cars feel and sound like to drive. The sedan variant is a little lighter than the wagon, so little less fuel consumption but you'll be going into the high revs if you really want to hear this gorgeous engine tone. Love it

You got one! What an excellent vehicle, nearly as fast as a turbo Subaru but you don't need a baseball cap to drive it. Can stick the dogs in the back too. This legacy generation is the best I think but I like how similar the platform was for so long. This is probably the best Legacy they made I think, my favourite was a first generation I had with a hi-lo ratio gearbox though.

Other auto makers are also using the CVT like Nissan and Honda.I can achieve 36 mpg on the highway, very good for a nice sized car weighing about 3600.

John North, they did do a diesel version of these, though not sure one could spec it with an Auto, and mpg was only up into low 30s if driven carefully. However, what you spent on fuel, you saved in repair costs. These things just never break if looked after properly. A colleague did 80k in 4 years in hers and all she ever did was service it and replace consumables. Great cars, and if I ever need a large estate car, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I've always liked the idea of the subarus with the big H6 engine. An impreza with one in would no doubt be a substantial improvement - I'm sure someone has done it. Stick a moderate turbocharger on it and you've got something very competent that won't need rebuilding every 5 minutes. Sounds like a Porsche; but then it would being a boxer 6.

Like most modern-ish cars, I think the estate version of the Legacy looks better than the saloon. It's a good overall shape without styling for its own sake. And that's exactly what makes it stylish in my eyes. I get the feeling this would be a much better proposition as a daily driver than a WRX as long as fuel bills don't become an issue. Then again, no one's gonna buy a 3 litre car if they're worried about that...

still love my 05 3.0R wagon. 5AT is actually not terrible. Owned it for 12 years - regularly serviced, and other than wheel bearings and bushings no trouble. She's getting on now almost 250K km. Love the speed, space and touring comfort. Of all the options I personally don't care for sun rooves, but I do like the dark rear window factory tint, zenons and the window monsoons if you can get them. Good tyres makes a big difference to handling - turn in gets real nice. The only problem is what to get next? (I hate how everything is an SUV now - yes that's me up your arse in the corners) and also the fuel consumption. I average a disgraceful 7km/l (17mpg)

Here in the U.S. we got the flat 6 Legacy as the LL Bean ed, I wished they would have brought over this B spec model. Here in the U.S for some reason we never get cars like this, yes there was the Legacy GT with the turbo 4 but I don't ever recall in the earlier 2000s ever having the flat 6 in anything but the LL Bean ed and if I remember correctly the GT pkg at that time only came in a 4d sedan. As for the Legacy and the Outback the newer ones are too bloated, the ones I like are the gen 1 and 2 late 80s (mid 90s for the Outback) upto about 2000, I wish Subaru would have continued to make the Outback SUS 4dr sedan, but that was a good model for a short time.

Just go for anything with the H6, and buy on condition. Or buy one of the many just one minor issue from being weighed in, and see if you like it! Here is some torque information 180KW is only if you run 98+ octane and the thing isnt pinging (which they are notorious for), and if the DBW feels like giving you 100% throttle, and if you rev the thing to the limiter. It only has 160lb-ft at 1000 rpm, raising to 200lb-ft by 4000 rpm carrying to 5000 and falling back down to 160lb-ft again by 6500 rpm. This means that it feels like it has "enough" torque from 3500 to 5000 rpm, but if you're outside of that, if feels lackluster. Under 3500 it feels gutless and its quite hard to do a hillstart.

Lovely flat six, but more importantly the driver has a grab handle. Why do most cars deprive the driver of a handle when everyone else gets one?

Wonder if the CD player needs a new relay or fuse maybe? Or even a software reset perhaps possible? For an 05 plate its condition could pass for a brand new car it looks that good. Lovely colour too. She does go a bit. Imagine a system on turbocharged cars where you can switch off the turbo when youre not in the mood for on off peppiness.

Turbocharged cars can be driven gently. You don't have to hammer them, it just becomes addictive. Turbocharger adds efficiency even with light throttle openings.

There is a 4th function on the entertainment console for a cd changer. Mine was quite cheaply rewired to a jack in the centre console which is super handy

Lovely machine, shame they didn't do these in a 3.0 turbocharged diesel variant.
