Hey Sam, thanks for hopping over here. Georgia has excellent benefits to Veterans. It sounds like you would qualify for no property taxes. If you’ve lived someplace your entire life, why leave just because your retired? Moving down south has just became a marketing sales job by the home building and real estate industry. You spend money moving, they get your money, and who cares if your happy? The locals don’t want you … they don’t understand you and you don’t understand them. Don’t count of that free pie or cake when you move in, either. Andy and Mayberry is only on TV … and that was a long time ago! Just stay home, downsize if you need to, and spend time with your grandchildren, vacation often, and be happy!

Yeah, living in the Gainesville and Oakwood areas, when i first moved to the state from Texas I transferred from my job as retail loss prevention and immediately, on day one, noticed the rude behavior simply because of my job title. Attempting to be helpful at my job towards folks, people misconstrued my actions and were always quick to be negative and accuse me of profiling. I was even asked if this was America when i was speaking Spanish to a coworker. To be fair, several people in Texas who had lived or visited warned me Georgia has great scenery but the people were horrible.

Ga and the south is not always what it seems. Jobs are harder to get down there and they do pay less. About 20-25% less. Taxes are higher in Ga because clothes and food is taxed. Homes can be just as expensive as the northeast and property taxes are up there as well. It is the opposite of MA and CT in Ga. People are way over friendly which feels great at first but you will be bothered every second every store everywhere and if you don’t smile and be super friendly back people take great offense to that. Again there are positives and negatives in every place you live. Ga is no exception.

TONS OF SNOW=2 inches? lol I had to google that 'storm' because it was 2 inches of snow. this video is the PR Ga deserves for sure! No healthcare protections (my cousin died because she was shot but the healthcare staff wanted a pregnancy test on her before operating just incase she was pregnant), no legal protections, terrible education systems, terrible weather, terrible options for careers with little to no growth, terrible politics and gerrymandering, hate crimes get backlogged for years and cops dont do their jobs if oppressed peoples are victims (remember the woman who went to prison for jay-walking in ATL! and then the man who was chased down and murdered in South Ga.) Unless you're being stationed here and dont have a choice, or unless you're Black and having a hard time finding community, I'd say STAY AWAY from this hellhole.

As an Atheist, I would be absolutely offended by any religious person insisting I go to church (and judging me for NOT being religious). It's no different than if I knocked on someone's door there and asked them NOT to go to church. That's my biggest fear of moving to GA (which I have been considering so I can be closer to family there).
