Nick "Biggie" Grimaldi is a co-founder of Good Fight Entertainment who manage bands including Between The Buried And Me, Circa Survive, Knocked Loose, Turnstile and blessthefall among many others.
- How he got into the scene via the Orange County hardcore scene (Eighteen Visions, Throwdown, etc)
- What a manager does for a band and when it makes sense for your band to look for a manager
- What has enabled ETID, Between The Buried And Me and Circa Survive to have such long careers
- Why Turnstile and Knocked Loose blew up so fast, and what you can learn from them
- A lot of common misperceptions about contracts, labels and other stuff that comes up all the time in the comments
Thanks to Violent Gentlemen for letting us use an office for this!

For me the thing I love about this is the specificity of the advice, and the fact that it’s relevant to the now. In college we had a few people with similar roles come through but that advice was from 10 years ago (wtf I’m so old now) and to be honest, because at the time I lacked the experience to be able to apply some of those things it really ultimately fell on deaf ears to me. So as far as who, I trust your vision and wisdom just keep the workable “this is something you can literally just do right this instant” type of industry people is who I want to hear from. This video has two, which is to have a specific vision that you’re already executing somewhat successfully before you even hire someone, and to hire someone that will work well with that vision and the contract/legal stuff will work itself out. What sets you apart for me, Finn, besides the analytical nature of what you talk about that I love, is the fact that most of what you talk about is literally actionable. It’s not just “wish it want it do it” crap, it’s “in order to get to X, you need to do one of A, B or C or a combination of all three that works for you,” and it’s a big difference maker I find.

I really like hearing about Knocked Loose and their success stories. I wouldn't really consider myself a Knocked Loose fan (although I think I'll really like the new album) but seeing how much they've blown up is crazy. I saw them in 2015 in a garage at a show where they were not the main band people came to see. Most of the people I knew at the show didn't pay attention to their set, but at the same time they had about 12 people there that knew every lyric to that first EP they put out. Fast forward a few years later and they're selling out rooms and doing better and better. To me, it seems like they've always grinded touring and that sort of thing that has helped propel them to their 'big break'.

YO as a HUGE knocked loose fan!... Im a 23 year old aussie. I grew up (somehow) listening to gangster rap and rnb. I got into metal in early highschool but never heard much or got into 90s hardcore. Or any hardcore really? But i loved say Chelsea grin and TAIM style shit that blended hardcore and death metal. I stumbled upon KL on facebook. Deadringer was everything i needed and more in music. Groovy as fuck riffs and basslines, almost hiphop influenced (bryans hung out with post malone before) mixed with bryans AMAZING lyrics. Seriously i havnt seen that Spoken about enough. The guys a fucking lyricists and his shit is straight to the point relative. I FEEL his emotion and frustration in my chest man. Plus KL got me to look at 90s hardcore!

Hey long time watcher, first time commenter. My name is Wes and I own a venue in Greenville,SC and do the talent buying, promoting etc. Anyways I just wanted to say I love what you're doing, and these kind of interviews are worth their weight in gold. So many young bands just have no information, and so many questions. I feel as if so many bands are looking for a big paycheck to come out of the sky, and "everything will be ok if we just could get signed etc." when this is really just the beginning. Keep on making these videos, and i'll keep on watching and sharing.

They're great, they help me figure stuff out with my band, with my studio, just with life. They're awesome. Please continue the interviews. Lastly, (forgive me if this is too bold) but God bless you! For doing what you're doing, with the scene in Seattle. {Even though I live in Minnesota} it's somewhat the same wherever you go the scene. What you do with your talks, your videos, your insight just inspiring! God bless you for what you're doing, and like I said before you have a fan for life here! Keep pushing forward sir. Some solid advice being given here by this chap in terms of having longevity in music, bands spend far too much time arguing about what city's theyre going to play on a European tour when they haven't played outside their hometown or whether or not they should do a concept album before they've even released an ep then suprise suprise it all unravels becaus they werent happy with the progress they had made, what he's saying (get to the point where your band is big enough to pay your bills) sounds a hell of alot more achievable than "lets be the next blink 182" really enjoyed the first of this series Finn, I'm really looking forward to the big herc one

coming from a straight-up metalhead. I've heard metalcore and hardcore before, and while I don't hate it, i really wasn't impressed me either. But when I heard Knocked Loose's "mistakes like fractures" I felt something different. musicially, it was closer to metal that other metalcore, but the vocals are something different. and I think I like it. like Nick, said, it's hard to pin down.
