The Soil is a South African acapella Group founded in Soweto. The group was first formed in 2003 when high school friends used to get together for jam sessions performing under the name; ‘Particles of the Soil. They started out as a 25-member group that over the years got whittled down to 4 members by 2010. After their debut album, member Samkelo Mdolomba (who had been involved in the recording process for the debut album) left the group due to contractual disputes and creative differences. Their self titled debut album; The Soil reached platinum status selling over 50 000 copies and they followed that up with two more album releases. The Soil have also performed at international events including festivals, garnered awards as well as having worked with the likes of Grammy Award winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Recently nominated for 3 SAMAs namely Best Engineered Album, Best Afro Pop Album AND Group of the Year - the Soil also makes history in our studios as the 1st live performance ever on Real Talk. It’s the Soil Echoing the sounds and voices of Kofifi.
Anele also has Reach for a Dream in studio: Executive Director Julia Sotirianakos, and acclaimed fashion designer and Gert Johan Coetzee, who is one of the ambassadors for Slipper Day on Friday 12 May.
