Hey Everybody I am Richard a former passenger train driver and a current freight train driver based in the UK. In this video we look at the the class 66 for Train Sim World 3, and how the in game simulated train compares to real life! Spoiler my review is pretty positive!
Using the game as our base, I show you the procedure for a full cold start and cab preparation of the class 66 Locomotive. How does the game compare to real life? We will look at the cab and procedures including brake test, driver safety device or Deadman's handle as it sometimes known. Hopefully these videos will help you to understand and appreciate these locomotives and help you to become a better and more realistic driver in Train Sim World 3

66 driver here 😄 we were told in our training to check in each cab that you can get power in both directions and that the sanders apply sand to the rails with a visual check, but honestly that was a great video and I reckon I’ll save it for the odd reference to keep my knowledge up ☺️ I liked the gsmr videos too, learned a few things i didn’t know!

I really enjoyed this, so we can safely say TSW 3 is a very good sim.... It would be nice to see a full engine room check and a working battery isolator. I would also like to see a full Paddington to Plymouth run class 43/52 would be worth paying for. Thanks for this vid, it was a great to see how true to life the sim is.

I'm 33 years old, a Dad, an Interior Designer, from Egypt I don't link with any of the things happens in this game, but somehow I fell in love with it, I pre-ordered the Deluxe edition, I enjoy it so much and your videos make it 500% enjoyable 😍😍😍 I guess I have certain love for locomotives, big engines, and the slow responses of these beasts 😄

I really enjoyed this educational video. As I thought that all train drivers had to use a login and keycard to turn on the cab at all. Just out of interest, what do you think to the Class 60 locomotives? I know a lot of the drivers like them because of their quieter cabs. Great video mate.

Not saying where the reverser key is located is certainly very sensible. I was a wee bit surprised when you said it, though I’d never really given much thought to the possibility of someone trying to nick a locomotive.

great video. im surprised how similar it is for different loco cold starts. i saw cold start (i was just watching, im way to young to operate a train) but i was at a terminus station, not in the uk fyi, and i was taking photos of an idle locomotive that was standing at the station for a few days, and this guy turns up in a V/Line (the rail operator) car and hops out. he can see im a train enthusiast so he explains what he is doing. the train was leaving in a few days so he told me he was gonna cold start the engine and let it idle to charge the batteries for the electricals and then run it around to the front of the passenger cars. he first walks around the train and then opens up the buffer end cab and then a few minutes later i can hear he in the middle of the loco, walking through the engine room, i presume. he then comes out of the other cab door. he then takes another 10-15 mins walking around, through the train and i finally hear the 1st 'ning' and then another, and it gets faster and finally has the 'ning ning ning' idle sound. i thought this video was great and now i know what the operater must've been doing. if anyone wants the know what loco it was, it was a V/Line N Class Passenger Locomotive

I was curious, at around the 19:24 mark, you're looking at the right rear area of the cab, there is a large lever on the side wall just behind the seat. What is that for? Great video!

Dad Rail I had an issue with Class 66 consist last night, running from Dartford > Hoo > Dartford. Train was fine running from Dartford > Hoo. But after shunting wagons and then setting back off, the brake cylinder pressure would not return to 0.0, it started at 0.5 and then after every break application would increase, was 2.2 by time I got back to Dartford. Any ideas?

Where are all the air system cocks etc on a 66? In the engine room like the E70?

In the engine room / clean air compartment. Some are located on the outside of the locomotive. The E70 is in the clean air compartment in the engine room
@alexn7484

@@DadRail cheers, was just wondering as there are a lot of similarities with a 67 (understandably) but on a 67 there is a cupboard in the same position as the electrical cupboard in the other cab with all the PBIC/E70 etc. But the 67 doesn’t have that void space between the cab and the engine/clean air compartments so easier to put them there I guess.

Impossible because they started development from the wrong end. Exactly like for TS 20xx ... and You know who was behind that. The same guy is still there and ... he never learns. Experienced record production guy is talking here and I know lot about sounds and sound editing. In TSW 3 You don't have enough access to sound files so only DTG can fix something seriously. If You remember the Train Simulator long story then Armstrong Powerhouse came and changed the paradigma of locomotive sound creation/editing. Without AP-s work TS 20xx would have been in trash long time ago.

Thank You DadRail for Your explanations on this loco model. Greetings from Estonia too. Seems like the fat guy who basically did all the soundwork for Train Simulator tranferred his 'great achivements' here ... to another generation of train simulation ... I'm talking about extremely weak horn sounds. The horn sound has to be most loud one in game ... no one is louder. That means the horn sound is where sound guy has to start development - find the loudest sound and set all others dependant on it. Easy like that. But fat guy never understood and started from engine sounds ... which ones are never the loudest ones. Then ... if You want to make the horn sound louder You can't raise it anymore because You've already determined highest level.
