A 2002 R53 Mini Cooper is in the shop. The customer is convinced that the clanking sound from the engine is a failed supercharger.
Jonny soon discovers that the customer's diagnosis is incorrect and the problem is much more simple and ends up saving the customer a lot of money.

@@1983dmdYeah, I think the Car Wizzard has slid more into owner mode rather than mechanic. Sad thing to see. Once he started going on about Yachats and stuff like that I've been kind of over it.

I really appreciate the quality of work you do Johnny. From using the correct coolant to using OEM parts to cleaning up a messy engine even though you didn't make the mess. You are the kind of mechanic that I would happily pay the bill and not worry that I was not getting my money's worth. I am a little surprised that you didn't talk the customer into a new air intake hose. Red tape is a dead giveaway.

Agree 💯, I'm old enough to remember the domestic cars that you could climb in the engine bay and work on them and have room to spare, not now days, while these vehicles look pretty on the out side, I wonder what the engineers were on, (smoking or drinking or...) when they designed them. They ought to be made to work on what they design. I wouldn't be surprised they might change a few things.

This trick is actually for cactus needles but if you can't get tweezers to grab a splinter try duct tape. You have to do it before it's too embedded but the idea is for the object to stick to the tape and you can pull it out of the skin. Hopefully a helpful tip.

You have to give it to those engineers, they do know how to package stuff tight. My first car a Volvo 240. Just pop the bonnet and you could climb in, sit on the engine and reach pretty much everything 🙂 The good old days.

As a customer, i did wrongly diagnose my car, but the technician followed my advices and changed the parts. So i was stuck with a 1k bill with the same problem as before. I won't do that ever again.
@christopherrosas2738
@christopherrosas2738 10 ай бұрын
Depends on how you present it to the tech..... if you say this is what it is, do only this and nothing else, then technically the tech did nothing wrong, but if you say this is what I think it is, but I could be wrong, the makes the technician actually diagnose and then the technician can still be wrong, but then responsibility lies with the tech

If you told them you wanted the part replaced/didn't ask for diagnostic, they did exactly what you asked.

@@christopherrosas2738 The way i presented it is: ''i made my research and i think it is the crank position sensor, but you can check everything else for other issues.'' So he replaced the sensor, the coolant tank because there was a small whole in it, and put a new starter because it was dead. So i can't really be mad at him. Next time i'll just cut it short and say the issue and let him diagnose everything himself.
@grayparatrooper

I bought a whole x5 front suspension control arms the works for a clunky noise, had it all replaced by the tech he goes got it all done but that didnt fix your issue you just need this other part which was like $70 but he had to go back in to stuff he had already done and cost me more $. I would have appreciated he diagnosed it before hand but its my fault i didnt really tell him to but one would assume they would check everything first. O well i have all new front suspension now lol

About 1985 I was a service advisor for a Honda dealership in Decatur GA. There were 2 of us. One day a guy brings his car in and Don is his SA. The guy says he needs his tires balanced. Don writes it up - Balance tires. We were able to do it while he waited. He drives off and is back in 5 minutes raising hell. It got all the way up to the service manager. The guy was livid. I enjoyed Don getting a bunch of grief as he was a jackass. That era of Honda’s had a bad problem with warping rotors. And you had to turn them on the car. The rotor was integral with the hub and the hub was a tight press fit into the bearing. If Don hadn’t been such a dipshit he would have asked why the tires needed balancing and the car would have been properly repaired and all the drama would have been avoided.

Most everyone can agree that those ads are a bit annoying. Truthfully, doing them can pay pretty well and most car You Tubers put money into creating their videos (buying cars, tools, parts, travel, etc.) it's not out of line that they take an opportunity to get some kind of return on their investment. It's not that they're falling for anything.

If a car KZfaqr promotes something related to his business, like handy tools , I get it. But if they’re promoting something like jewellery or razor blades , that’s just totally ridiculous and annoying! And lots of them out there doing that BS. Is there a specific name for the tool to remove the harmonic balancer. I ask only because your very detailed and you usually have a reason why to do or don’t do. I like your way of explaining the process and your dropping jewels on the audience but left that out and I can tell it’s no longer a conscience thought but automatic instinct. Thanks
