@BMDPortraits present a Realistic Drawing Tutorial for Beginners using Faber Castell Polychromos. I will share how wonderful these artist grade color pencils in terms of layering, blending and drawing hyper realistic skin tones and portraits. Faber Castell Polychromos is the top of the line artist grade Oil based colored pencil in the market. I focused on drawing realistic EYE, EYES. I Feature Robert Pattinson in this drawing video.

I wish I could find this photo online. I would love to follow along. I usually use Prismacolors but I find i am too heavy handed with them and my portraits become over saturated. Sound like a basic question but what do you do your initial drawing with? When I use graphite, even though I erase a bit with kneaded eraser it still 'dirties' my paper. You look like you are having no trouble blending in the drawn lines. Thanks Pal

This is such an amazing tutorial thank you so much!! It’s going to change my approach totally. You’re a master of colour theory. I wonder if you could possibly recommend a polychromos colour in place of the prismacolour seashell pink? Is the reason you use prismacolour for the burnishing because you prefer the colour or the texture of the prismacolour?

Thank u so much, im happy that it was helpful....i like to use 1 or 2 light prismas on my poly drawings, because their waxy, soft textures, help blend and hold the pigments of poly really nice and tight, but using purely poly is perfectly fine i would normally use flesh, medium flesh, cream and white poly to burnish.

Hi. I appreciate the newer drawing and certainly will attempt it. Trouble is i started the other frim where yiu had the right eye drawn and were starting on his left- then it finishes. Not as a complaint but merely to share my dilemma can i explain my frustration as a new artist (at 75) This is lacking a/ the line drawing or outline. B/ the start if drawing his right eye c/ missing too the eyebrows, nose and facial area around these. If you have a series of this drawing can you point me the way. Thank you kindly for sharing your expertise. I hope to be following and developing as a budding artist with your help for a long time. Paul

In colored pencil, it would normally take me about 5 days or more per head.....about 4-5 hours a day on ave.

it depends on the skills u acquire through time, materials matter in terms of quality of the portrait, artist grade materials dont fade, has intense colors, easy to layer and blend....however realism using cheap materials is very much achievable, u just need to spend more time and effort.

I would like to see a tutorial on drawing on rough paper. It's too easy to draw on plain paper. Drawing on flat paper doesn't indicate real skill, can you?
