I've had this scanner for years but lately, the output has faded to the point where it's too weak to hear. Before I toss it out, I thought I'd take a shot at fixing it. Too easy!

Hi Jim! Thanks for the tutorial. I myself have a radio shack handheld scanner with very little use but the POWER button is kind of lowered and I have to press real hard in order for it to turn on and off. Do You have any idea what the contacts are like or if I should clean it? To me it's like it's not broken but run down. Any advice? Sorry for my English but I am from SOUTH AMÉRICA. Cheers!

Oh my God that is not at all appropriate for every wrong reason you just don't go in there freaking everything with a tool like that without doing any sort of damage in the first place because it could have been a bad soldered component that will come back to haunt you anyways because I know that I've had this model before and it was not that easy it actually was a cold solder joint and it deteriorated overtime causing the front end receiver to go bad what you did was not recommended I don't recommend anybody doing this kind of a procedure at all you just don't go scraping anything because you could actually do more damage
