I have no problem helping people. But it's not right that my tax dollars are being used to help people who are entering the country illegally when there are legal US citizens that need help. Look at all the homeless throughout this country. And I agree that many are coming to the US due to terrible conditions in their home countries. But how many are entering with bad intentions? The debacle on the border is way out of control & will negatively affect the US for decades to come.

I biked across the United States around three years ago. When I got to the border I remember how much strain the crisis had been putting on people living there. You have offered the most accurate depiction of the border I have ever seen since. Really excellent series, well done!

As a resident of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) and the wife of a Federal Agent, I am so happy that you've covered this crisis. It's a huge crisis for our little part of the world. It's a lot to take in, and this exposure is just the beginning. I can't speak for all residents, but my personal frustration is that there isn't any consistency or accountability. In my opinion, that's a recipe for a bigger disaster. Thank you so much for this coverage, we appreciate your insight. Keep fighting the good fight!

Is she already living here? When we applied last year it took about 3 months for the work/travel permit that you get while they are processing the application. At that point you already have all the benefits you need and getting the physical green card is just a formality.

if you get rid of catch and release though you completely overload the whole system. it takes way too long to process these cases. where are you going to keep all the people you've caught in the meantime? keeping people housed in facilities is incredibly expensive, look how much it costs the taxpayer on average for a single prisoner in the federal prison system, and I would hope migrants being housed would be kept in better conditions. there simply is no easy solution here. getting rid of catch and release might solve some problems but its just going to create more and ultimately probably be even MORE costly

It's now been 4 days and hasn't reached 100k viewers as of 4:16pm Sunday...I've been watching Peter for awhile as he's balanced and open minded...Most of the times his vids will pop up as soon as I open KZfaq, but for this series and ESPECIALLY this video, I had to search his channel. I've known people that have been deported 4 or 5 times. They get sent home then somehow make it back. They are good people, have families here but, they are illegal. It's a hard thing. I know those that were brought as babies or small children. Some have been deported to a place they have no memory of ever living. It's sad. But, we can't sustain this influx.

There's a situation like this in my extended family. My nieces fiance came here as a young child, went to school here, worked and paid taxes but never got citizenship because of the high cost. Got deported after a traffic stop in a small town last spring. Now he can't legally come back for 10 years and his babies are growing up without their dad.

A suiting finale to a great series. As a German I think I can grasp the emotions around that topic regarding the events of 2015 and following. And I absolutely agree that it is a slippery slope once you disdain the rule of law. The roead to hell is paved with good intentions.

Good thoughts and glad you're covering this. I'm a law student and last year I took a class on immigration law. I think a large problem is how hard it is to obtain a work visa. I think a plausible solution is changing laws regarding work visas.

I have applied 5 times for a student visa and tourist visa to come to America and I got denied all the time , when I see this it makes angry and I totally understand they not safe in their country but should do it the right way

But the “right” way is a gigantic quagmire that lasts for years and many, many thousands of dollars. One of my friends parents has a small house somewhere near the Texas border where people crossing from Mexico illegally sometimes when they’re away from the house people break into the house and take the food. It’s gotten so they just leave the house open so it’s not broken into. They sold the house

Speaking from experience, you really don’t get that much aid from the government. I don’t know where this idea came from. You can only apply to certain aid programs depending on the state and they don’t take your legal status into account. They never once ask for it. It depends on your income level. Some people complain that they don’t get any aid financially but that’s because they still have assets and money in reserves or in the bank. You need to have literally nothing to be able to get these programs. If you have 20k in a bank account but have no job then you won’t get anything. These aid programs purely depend on your income. Many studies show that immigration is a very good thing.

My main argument I've said from the beginning is exactly what you just said, "Get your house in order first." Such a true statement! Every time someone tries to argue with me about migrants, I say, "How can we take care of them when we can't even take care of our own?" It's no different than having kids you can't take care of. Get your shit together. Have it stable. And then...have kids. That's common sense. Why should it be any different for a country who surely has a history of immigrants and does not have the homogeneity of other countries, but cannot deal financially with an influx of people we cannot take care of when we can't take care of our own. As a person who grew up near the border (in Az) and went to school with children of illegals, as well as having worked for years at a school full of illegal students, I have a HUGE passion for this. I am ANGRY at the way our government has been handling things. I am hurt by how dangerous my home has become (even though we are not currently living there due to military but many loved ones are still there). I am grateful for your videos as they are the best that I have seen about this topic. There has been so much misinformation and so many people who are believing lies. These lies are so dangerous. We need to be humane, and encouraging this current rush is NOT humane. We need to streamline the process, reduce the encouragement of illegals, and we need to increase the ability to get help if help is needed for those who truly are coming from horrible situations. Our government needs to extend its arms to the people WITHIN our country though, and needs to stop meddling elsewhere, as that is a large part of why so many people in other places are fleeing. I really wish that the career politicians who live in their nice houses, and fly all over the world, would take just a few days to live with the rest of the world and understand what it is like. To gain compassionate policies based upon real life situations, and to donate more of their money (which for most is millions) instead of the government tax money, to their pet projects. You want the green peace deal? Great, put your money towards making it happen instead of whining so much. You want the police reformed? Fine put your money there and help the police departments get the training that they need and the compassion so desired. Any project or item that the politicians talk about could be easily resolved if they would stop talking and take more action, sacrificing from their own lives and comfort for the sake of those they claim are being harmed by everyone else. Stop being in the spotlight and start being a servant. That's what our country truly needs.

The illegal immigration is encouraged by part of the US establishment. They are assuming that the illegals and their friends / relatives will find a way to support them at the ballot. Unfortunately they are right. Illegal aliens -> Illegal workers -> Illegal voters

I grew up near the border it was actually very safe. Del Rio Texas, my parents still live there. No one has ever harassed or broken into there house. I actually had my house broken into when I was livening in North Carolina and Kentucky 🤷♂️. I guess it all depends where you live

Suggestion: Find some family that will let you go with them. Then like this one do a documentary on them seeing what they do to survive, where they go and most imporantly why they are here. What you learn might surprise you. I know some of these people and what will happen to them. But I will let you find out for yourself.

Peter, I just watched your series on the border. I have lived in South Texas almost all of my life. When I was young we were told "don't go to the border or across" because a lot of my young teenage friends were doing that for fun but my Dad was a firefighter and knew a lot of police and knew what was going on in the world and he tried to teach us girls what not to do! So as you can see I'm no longer a young girl but the border has gotten worse over the years and now is the worst I remember. There are no easy answers but the previous administration was going in the right directions and now it's been reversed and we see the consequences.

right. There are legitimate asylum claims that will not be heard because of how many people are coming in. I mean, why not be honest and tell the agents that you are a "economic migrant", why lie? That way the legitimate claims can be put first, and then they can sort out the rest.
