Holy sh*tballs! I have a travel and a gardening channel. Getting ready to go to a beach location which I've never shot in before with my very expensive Sony A7siii. I kept seeing that polarizing filters were a good way to protect your lens from sand and spray, so was looking into them. Came across your video and I HAD NO IDEA I NEEDED THIS for the stuff I was shooting! I do almost exclusively outdoor stuff. $0.04 coming your way my friend. 😉Just bought the 82mm Gobe from your description. Thanks for the caveats or where NOT to use it. Can't wait to experiment with this thing.

Spot on. One more thing I'd like to add. In general CPLs are cheaper than VNDs of similar quality. For instances where you only need like a 1 stop ND, I think the CPL actually cuts down that much light. Hence, you can have an affordable high quality ND2 and CPL package all in one. Whereas a VND with a rotatable mount for polarization is still a bit iffy on the budget market.

Interestingly, it seems a lot of circular polarizing filters affect visible light, but not as much the near infrared spectrum. Using them in color infrared photography, I can sometimes use that to my advantage, darkening visible light and making the IR-reflecting foliage look brighter by comparison.

Interesting stuff. It's been awhile since I've used a polarizer because I usually filter with pro mist or something similar. But great points--I'll have have to bring one around with me.
