My first goal when I started learning English is to have something cool to show off to my friends 😂. Imagine it like a race and I wanted to be the fastest racer. The second reason for me to learn English is to train my brain, challenge it with tons of words and rules and knowledge...The third reason came when I wanted to actually understand English books so that I could expand my knowledge more easily and deeply into some professional fields. Almost after that was my need to chat with people around the world (written English only). And now finally I would love to understand spoken English as well as be able to speak English well. I can feel English as a very essential part of life. My English skills are not very good but my love for it is always developing.

You know what! As an English teacher in China.1 tried to ask my students this question, almost everyone of them don’t want to think about it. They are asked to learn because they need to pass the “gao kao”(Chinese onetime SAT). Other than this goal of their parents, they don’t have any other goals. I could say rare of them would like to figure out their own needs. Sounds very absolutely, if I correct me a bit, I would say80-90% of students educated in public schools, they would eventually lost themselves. Some adults understand this, but they don’t want to talk these with their children. I feel frustrated teaching Public School students here.
