Hey guys today I am testing out a "dupe" of my eyeshadow palette from Hot Topic! All of the claims in this video are "alleged" and this is all in good fun. I was notified by a follower of mine that Hot Topic had a palette being sold on their website called the "Cottage Core Mushroom Eyeshadow Palette" that was a "dupe or copy" of mine - I immediately went to the site to purchase it to see for myself IN PERSON if they look similar and OH BOY do they ever. Today I put them to the test to see, side by side, how they perform next to one another.

Colourpop should bring ur palette back, even for just the fall, for those of us who couldn't grab it. That's the only reason I could think of for any company to make a (very) similar color story~ is if the palette we all really want is no longer sold. Still not right to do, but I kinda understand it. But, still no comparison with this Hot Topic "dupe" since the colors of ur's have so much more depth & are much more pigmented. So pls Colourpop, bring this palette back for the fall! Listen to us! Lol!

I love your palette. As someone with very olive skin, it's so nice to actually be able to use the whole palette and have all the shades compliment my skin tone. Usually greens and blues end up being chalky or bringing out red tones in my skin. So thank you.

Honestly with the way Colourpop handled your palette and the restocks, I wouldn't blame people for buying this dupe. Your palette is beautiful, but was super hard to get and is still reselling for way over retail.

Ugh colourpop has wonderful products but the way they deal with collabs is SO frustrating. They create a false sense of scarcity with some of it so it's risky to wait for a restock because you never know when they are going to pull a "lol no restocks this time". They did that with Sailor Moon palette, restocking randomly.

But dues have been around forever and usually the brand wants to directly compete and take money away. All I'm saying is, I think it's a good step.

Honestly I'm more willing to forgive a dupe when the original isn't available for purchase. AFS is honestly one of my favorites and I really think it should be permanent, or at least seasonal.

I agree about duping a discontinued palette. Because you're kind of filling a void rather than competing. But they should have at least put more effort into the quality

@Lifted Sailboat Yeah, I'm big on intention...in general. I try to look at people's intentions as well as actions. Some brands just make affordable dupes of high end makeup and I think that's nice for those of us who can't afford a lot or only like a few shades/wouldn't wear the shades often. But a lot of high end palettes are made to fit the market... they choose what sells. Collabs are a different story. It's putting together a mood, a theme, and creating shades they genuinely love. I don't think any "influencer" just puts together shades that are popular. They may aim to make it customer-friendly and choose an array that would work for a lot of people, but there's still more effort put into that palette than a company... ANY company generally puts into one palette. Cuz they can always make more. Collabs are generally a limited experience. So duping a collab is definitely not something I support. Though, like I said, since it's discontinued, I give them slightly more credit but to charge almost the same price and quality be crap? Nah. I'd rather stick to affordable brands I know have good quality. And if I want a collab palette, I will buy the original or something similar that's not a direct dupe (if I can't afford the original, but I will usually save up if I want it bad enough). So I see where you're coming from, but I think it's kind of a case-by-case thing.

I love how you handled this. You could have just ranted or even just ignored it. Instead, you acknowledged the palette and fairly compared it to yours. I wouldn't call this a "dupe" as it isn't an exact copy of shades. Instead, it's more of a "knockoff " in my opinion. Obviously inspired by yours, but not the same quality. I love your palette and I am gonna wear it today.

You could try some of Juvia's cause they often have bright vibrant shades like that. I think there's a similar color in "The Saharan" palette but not too sure cause I never owned Kristi's. I wish hers was still available too especially for the fall.

Hey, Jess! I agree completely and love her palette even though warmer shades aren't my jam, I can't let go because I am a nature lover (in the Fall/Winter. I'm a lifetime Floridiana nd cannot handle out Summers...that last 98% of the year) and there are colors that just give me all the feels and I must brush them all over my eyeballs haha. The quality is fantastic and the unique twists on the colors are what really just make me melt. I'm also a big fan of your content, Jess. Even my 9 year old asks to watch your videos with me (the ones that are appropriate for her age, of course). And I honestly love your makeup, I never wore anything but badly applied black eyeliner until I discovered KZfaq makeup tutorials when I was 19-20. I'm 33 now and still at about an intermediate level haha. I'm not super creative or intricate in my makeup, but it makes me happy. I love me some glowy skin and a good smokey eye. Lips are fun but on a regular basis I don't wear more than a moisturizing gloss/balm. I have 3 kids so I don't get to play with makeup like I use do. But even just around the house, sometimes I need to feel pretty. Sending love and light to Kristi and fam and well as Jess and fam 💜🌙

This collection was released while I was in labor with my 2nd kid. I ordered it from the hospital and was only able to grab the palette, one supershock and the glosses. I would love to be able to order the liners. I don't know why they can't keep the liners going because you can run out of those before you ever use up the entire palette. Love your palettes!

Maybe they'll see there's a lot of interest in the pallet and collection coming back and consider it. I totally missed out, and don't often purchase makeup but it was really sad I couldn't manage to snag anything. I've only been using drugstore makeup until I got your palette. I was so overwhelmed with how pigmented the colors were! I couldn't handle so much color! It took me a few tries to get adjusted to the palette. The first few times my looks turned out waaaay too dramatic. Conclusion: I love your palette. I wanna support you and everything you do. You are so inspirational.

I've been using makeup to play and have fun again. Trying new colour and/or texture combinations just to sit at home 🤣 It has become a bright spot in my day and my mum is enjoying photos off the looks I like. Gives us something to chat about when we haven't been up to much else. I don't have this palette, but I do have similar colours and they are very autumnal. Might have to bust them out. Super excited for autumn to arrive! Roll on cooler weather x

I just used your palette after a break and the pigmentation is one of the reasons I love it so much I can work with it without needing a lighter eye base and build it up it’s really one I fall in love with over and over again.

Your eye color is so gorgeous and both vibes really complement the tones of your irises very well! But I agree, your palette is the one I prefer, though I was surprised (and impressed) with the performance of the HT "dupe." Thank you, once again, for a great and honest review, you have so much integrity and it's something I really admire. My emotions would have me wanting to diss and "play down" the performance of the dupe but you handled it with such grace and positivity.
