Thank out for this video! I had no idea. Now I know in which order the plastic parts have to go inside. Simply UNBELIEVABLE how even expensive tripods relying on such cheap loose plastic parts!

Thanks Eric for a great video. I have had a RRS tripod and ball head (55) for some time. Wipe it down after each use etc. Had not given it a good cleaning in a while. I was shooting in Acadia National and lower leg would come off it extended too far. Came back after downloading images cleaned and repaired everything. A good refresher since it was some time You guys are the best.

thank you so much, this video really made my day. I have a manfrotto twist lock and it got jammed and then came apart and all the little pieces fell out... :) and this video helped me put it back together and now it's working perfectly. Now I would be quite confident to take the whole thing apart and clean it! Thanks again!

Great video. I just got back from shooting on the coast and one of my twist locks is jammed up with sand. This will help fix it.

Well done! One point for thoroughness: before reinserting the clean tube into the larger one, it might be best to first clean the inside of the larger one, or at least check to see that it's clean -- especially if the user had neglected to extend the bottom section before immersing the leg in a dirty place. Also, removing excess grease from the outside should be done with a solvent like alcohol, otherwise one could get grease residue on one's fingers. I would use alcohol to clean the threads, as well.

Great way of removing the manufacturers graphite dry lubricant and replacing it with dust and dirt attracting wet lubricant!

Not sure about anyone else, but I'd remove all the old stuff and just reapply some fresh graphite. Also, not sure I understand why you say he replaced the graphite with wet lubricant. He only applied grease to the threads and not the sleeves - they were left dry. Maybe I missed something.

Anyone know where to buy the polymer anti twist sleeves.... they tend to break easily and very hard to source from suppliers here in Ireland

Hi there, I have a Giottos tripod and it has two metal gims - well that is what I think they are. They both don’t thread into the twist lock. Any ideas?

You skipped over how to dry the inside of the tube. How do I do that?

+Virginia Carrier I used my air mattress inflator to dry out the inside of my tube. Hope this helps...

Before putting water in the tube, I'd suggest you look in it to see if it's needed using a flash light. To remove water, you can use an air compressor, use something long to run a piece of paper towel, rag etc. down thru the tube (remove the foot).

One of mine was up in there too! I reached up in with a long skinny pole and fished it out. Though it was damaged I cleaned it up and it still works like new. I wont even need to replace that plastic part yet, for now anyway. Could work fine for years so lol.
