==========================
In this video, you will learn what HART protocol is, how HART is used with analog sensors, how a HART analog sensor works, and what advantages a HART analog sensor can give your operation.
Current-loop technology has been used for analog sensors for the past 4 decades to transmit important process data to the control system, whether that system is a DCS (distributed control system) a PLC (programmable logic controller), or a single-loop controller.
Current-loop data transmission is simple and cost-effective. Only a small amount of current (4 to 20 milliamps to be exact) is required over a single pair of wires for each current loop sensor. One 2-amp, 24 Volt DC power supply can “drive” dozens of sensors.
For current-loop analog sensors, the lowest measurable process value is called the Lower Range Limit, or LRL. The analog sensor will output 4 milliamps at this 0% reading. The highest measurable process value is called the Upper Range Limit, or URL. The analog sensor will output 20 milliamps at this 100% reading.

I feel both great joy and sadness watching these videos and it’s conflicting. Great joy in that I learn sooo much than in my own job in Operations, Process & Automation Controls. Great sadness and it saddens me to admit it here also in that I don’t learn this much in my own job in Automations dealing with all these components, devices, protocols and plc’s and that saddens me greatly. I started my career as a Operational & Mechanical Technician in Operations at Utility and Power Plants. I now more work in Field Service, Equipment Commissioning, Plant Startups and Automations. The engineers when they even try to explain stuff are never close to this clear in explaining anything at a simple level either. As my own company also don’t believe in training or sending anyone to training. Sadness to me. But great joy watching and learning to fill in the gaps in my knowledge watching these videos. Every video I see I can relate to something done in my job or where I wasn’t clear in how something worked. The easy explanations here fills in my knowledge greatly and with great joy. I can’t say just how much I enjoy watching the videos here and know it’s directly affecting my job and what I know as well when I look at the devices, components, plcs etc.

Cool video! You have 5 modules: 1) A power supply 2) CPU315-2 DP Power Supply 1P 6ES7 315-2AG10-0AB0 3) 6ES7331-7TF01-0AB0 | HART Analog Input Module 4) What is this module and it's function? 5) What is this module and it's function? On module 2) Does RS 232 connect to the PC with a USB and a HART modem?
@realpars
@realpars 3 жыл бұрын
The fourth and fifth modules are analog input modules just like module 3. They were added just to show that a CPU315-2 rack can have multiple I/O modules. The programming terminal is connected to the CPU using either a Profibus-DP connection or an MPI connection. These are both serial links that require a special modem or PCI card at the computer end. A HART modem is used to communicate with a HART device in order to configure the sensor. This connection is external to the PLC hardware setup.

Remember, in a power outage, an analog phone will keep working as it has its own power supply. good to have a backup 'dial' phone without the battery. you can still call emergency, do not need batteries or power.

Enlightening. Never stop learning do we? I learned my Directv modulates 13 and 18 volts. Sounds like the old Bell protocol might last forever.

Thanks for the great video guys, really informative! I have a question though, which is not clear to me from the explanation. Regarding the wired networking of multiple sensors, how many wires will you have in the end? Is it a 1-1 connection for each of the sensors, or can you somehow impose the wiring of all of the sensors involved and end up with 2 in the end, with the capability to access or request data from whichever one you wish at any given time? Thanks and keep up the good work!

Most networked, or bus-connected, sensors operate with 2 wires, (+) and (-). The difference between bus-connected and single sensors is that in bus-connected, the many sensors are connected in series, with a Bus-in and and Bus-out connection. The "out" from the last sensor in the bus returns to the common connection of the circuit. With a single sensor, the "out" returns directly to the common connection of the circuit. The two wires form a current-loop circuit and there is a (+) and (-) wire, with the signal overlaid on top of the circuit as communication moves from (+) to (-). That is a little bit of an over-simplification, but both wires are always used in communication because both are required to complete the electrical circuit.

Just to add that while communication and power will be carried over 2 wires only for as many HART sensors connected in parallel, however you are still limited by the PLC card or data logger limitation where each sensor will utilize a single channel off the master card.
