When I was in Prague, I got a hotel room just outside the city center area, a few minutes walk from a transportation hub where I was able to catch either a tram or the metro. I was able to get into the city center and other places without any problems at all. I highly recommend staying outside the city center.

Another great and informative video. A visit to Prague is not expensive at all comparatively speaking. The things to do and see in Prague, as well as outside of Prague, makes a trip there A GREAT BARGAIN. Prague and its neighboring towns are incredibly beautiful on so many levels. Thank you Valery for being a great hostess and to your camera man!!!🙏👌

I come to Prague since I was born >50 years ago to visit my grandparents. I've seen the metamorphosis the last decades. Last week we've been there again and we always take a hotel or apartment outside city center, but close to metro or tram stop, which makes it good affordable. When in the Center for diner, we actually always go to Havelská Koruna. PID Litačka app is best to use for public transport planning and paying, but also for parking. My most important app in Prague.

Great INFO!! While I can see that prices in Prague have gone up, I still think almost everything you covered would be more expensive in Vienna, Paris, London or Lake Jackson Texas where I live. I also think Prague is equal to the finest cities in the world, so even at current prices it is still a bargain. BUT!!! That is vied through my own expectations and others might not have the same experience. Either way, the information you present is very useful to anyone considering traveling to this great city!!! Keep up the good work RPG‘s

Just a side note - if you want a beer in the city centre, find the nearest Tesco, Billa or Albert, buy for example the one that was shown in the video as "not good" its called Kozel.. very good beer indeed.. and enjoy it.. otherwise buy your beer in any pub OUTSIDE the city centre.

Those prices certainly make those that we paid on our visit to Prague in 1996 seem laughable! I'm glad that questions about why I would choose to visit overseas destinations before we'd traveled around Australia were ignored then with the retort that I can drive around my own backyard when I'm long retired but hauling the creaking bones up the Matterhorn when you're past 70 gets to be more a punishment than a holiday! 😱🙄😉

I would still say that Prague is a very cheap place. At least for nordic people. Cause here it’s expensive. Last time I went to a pub (a quite cheap one) I payed almost 200czk for a beer from tap. A cocktail is like 300czk at least. For like 250czk I can get a kebab from a crappy place… 300czk will buy me a lunch at a decent place. I mean it’s possible to find lunch for like 250czk… but they’re not good. A dinner… well.. 1 starter is about 200czk, a main course starts at about 600czk… a glass of wine or beer at least 200czk… a desert also about 200czk… so a 3 course with drink is at least 1200czk per person. A 2 course 1000czk per person. I recently booke hotel room in prague with a good review and close to the city centre… an equal room in a nordic city is 50% more expensive. A public transport ticket in a small city here is like 80czk.. and if I were to take a taxi home from the city (4km) it would cost me at least 700czk. Well… my salary las month came out as 85000czk. So yes prague is still cheap… for us. And that’s a very good way to describe Prague. But I mean… for us nordics bothe germany and france are quite cheap places aswell. But those places depends a lot more about how the euro stand against the nordic currencies (except for finland and denmark). While the Czech crown just as norwegian crowns, swedish crowns or icelandic crowns aren’t attached to the euro. So even though our currencies maybe stands weak to the euro they can be strong against the czech crown which makes even more of an advantage .

We stayed at an Airbnb Apartment by Florenc station. This was May 2023. There was just two of us, and it was perfect. It was a one bedroom, one bath, and one washing machine. When traveling around Europe for three weeks, having a washing machine was a must. We paid $140 USD a night. Looking back, that seems steep and we could have done better farther out, but in relation to other European destinations, it seemed OK at the time.

Very good as usual! Totally agree. Of course you have to visit Prague, but after living here long ago, now been visiting many times, maybe I would say Budapest is a better option esp for longer stays nowadays. More affordable, and of course London, Paris and most Eurocountries, unfortunately on another price level.

I would say when it comes to London if you book flights and accomodation like a Travelodge months (sometimes weeks) in advance, especially on off peak days like Sunday, or off season like out of school holidays, you can actually get a cheap deal. Eat in Wetherspoons pubs (vast menu) or take aways, buy food in major supermarket chains like Tesco or Sainsburys and use your feet then you can have a very inexpensive trip to London.

In my experience Prague is super cheap! But I think that depend on where you come from. I'm from the Netherlands and our country is in general super expensive compared to lots of other countries. I've been in Prague twice and both visits (of 5 night) have cost me around €300 each (including hostel/airbnb). But, most of my food I bought in the supermarket and I did a lot of activities that are either free or very cheap. I barely drink alcohol and I'm easily satisfied, I'm not a needy person.

I'm also from the Netherlands, and I "discovered" Prague about two years ago. Since then, I've been back six times! I love it! It's only a one-hour flight from Amsterdam Schiphol, and not terribly costly if you stay outside the city center. (See my post above in the comments.) I never eat in a restaurant, or drink a beer in a pub in the Netherlands. MUCH too expensive! If you ask me, Prague is more beautiful than Amsterdam, and safer, too.

@@jnx2333 Ha! If I was rich, I would get a flat in Prague in addition to my flat here in the south of the Netherlands! I would split my time between Prague and here. (I do like living in the Netherlands. I'm an immigrant from the U.S. There aren't very many of us in this country.) Amsterdam and Utrecht are both charming cities, but SO crowded. We have 17 million people packed into this tiny country! And do you know what's involved in finding a place to live here? Several years ago, the waiting list for a flat in Amsterdam in the social sector was 11 years. Utrecht was 13 years. Since then, the housing shortage has only worsened. Private sector housing is unaffordable for the average person. Everything else is terribly expensive here, too! For the rest, I found the Czech people I met in Prague to be friendly and helpful. If you approach them politely and with respect, your respect will be returned. You might enjoy the "Dream Prague" videos posted by an American couple who immigrated to Prague about a decade ago.

Absolutely not around 150. The restaurants I go to around Žižkov and Vinohrady all have their prices around 250 for a meat entrée. And likewise I recently for instance noticed that Dish's Dish burger was raised from 259,- to 289,-. Parlament's Svíčková raised their price from 275,- to 295,-

@@serebii666 wow. those are high prices in more expensive places 🤷‍♂️ regular restaurant have svíčková up to 200. Almost 300 for this dish is freakin too much. You are comparing very expensive places nos. Try burger at Jacobs Street food or Master burger. Small places, but cheaper than dish yet very awesome. Visit more places that are not this expensive. As a local i can say that dish for 300 per person is too much.
@serebii666
@serebii666 9 ай бұрын
@@icwsi Parlament is absolutely a normal mid-tier priced restaurant. For comparison, Červený Jelen sells it's svíčková for 345,- while Lokál Korunní sell its for 235,- and u Bulínů sells its for 299,-. A meat entrée being around 250,- is accurate. And no, those are not expensive places. Expensive places are restaurants like Yuniku, Sia, Cafe Savoy, Pot au Feu, Cafe Imperial, where mains cost between 450-600,-. And that is not even discussing actual fine dining - restaurants like Marie B, Field, Coda, or Alcron, where mains can easily cost 750-1200,- And as for burger pricing, Dish is not particularly expensive or special either. Tavern's burgers are around 260,-. Palanda's burgers sell for 279,-. Hillbilly's burgers sell for around 249,-. That is simply the cost of a sit-down meal in a restaurant with good meat quality. I'm sorry but neither Jacobs Street Food or Master Burger is a restaurant - those are street kiosks. That is a completely different market category. They neither need to pay rent for seating space, nor dishware, nor service staff that restaurants all do. I would not base acceptable restaurant prices off the hot dog stand (delicious as it is) on nám. Míru either. I am a local too, and I eat out in every district of the city (1-10, except 9 because its far). 150,- (currently closer to 170,- actually) is what you can expect for lunch hotovky and týdenní menus, not á la carte entrées, and that is primarily in cafés - not full service restaurants. I stand by my points, and I recommend you broaden your food experiences, in Prague you really do get what you pay for. All the restaurants I mentioned all make food that I found was worth the price.

I remember my first trip to Prague in 2004 - it was pouring with rain so we dived into the first restaurant we saw, had a nice 2 course meal with a beer and a coffee and a free shot of slivovitz...it was less than 600 koruna between 4 people! There were one room apartments for sale for 250,000 koruna, this was when the exchange rate was about 25 koruna to 1Pound Sterling. Prague is still relatively cheap if you avoid the tourist traps but Poland is the absolute bargain country to visit these days....

well, I was born and lived in PRG all my life (except few years abroad), and I can assure you that in 2004 you could not have lunch/dinner you describe for 600CZK for 4 people (may be main dishes), and definitely you could not buy 1 bed apartment for CZK250k :):) In 2004, 1 bed apartment somewhere in the suburbs in a (undesirable) commie-built apartment concrete building was about CZK 1.5-2million .... I remember well, I started my professional career around that time, and I was eating & drinking out a lot, plus looking for an apartment to buy;) I get that you felt it is 'extremely cheap' compared to Britain back then, but you sort of let your let memories be 'magnified'

Nowadays I assume (leaving London aside), real estate prices in PRG are higher than in most big cities in the UK of 'comparable' size as PRG (Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Necastle ..... but of course, PRG is PRG, can't compare to these cities re quality of life, culture,sights etc)

In prague for 2 u usally spend 2-300DK (1000CZK) and thats ''expensive'' in prague. I've in Prague twice, both times in mid September and both times the weather was still great. First time it was actually kind of hot and second time it was just fine. Note: I'm a person that absolutely hates hot weather, so maybe i'm easily satisfied with weather that others might experience as less good weather and I'm from the Netherlands, so basically everywhere in the world has better weather that what I'm used to 😂

Prague has lost a lot of its magic since Covid. It was a leading touristic destination, but has fallen since. It focused on low prices, ironically, and people who are traveling Europe want quality, something Prague never focused on. The overall costs of things has gone up, the quality has not. Prague did a lot in the past to extend the time of visitors, today Prague has fallen under two days.... Still, it feels like a tourist trap.

Czech hotels are overpriced generally, not only in Prague, but still better than Slovakia where you pay for nothing.

🇨🇿 I've been travelling for 12 years to Prague (the European jewel) as a solo-traveller with a limited budget 💕 I guess Prague is proportionately still cheaper than her adjacent sisters 😊 What I really hate in Prague was : Heavy Smoking 🚬🤢 & Crazy Drinking 👎🏻🥃 These 2 infamous phenomena in CZ are deteriorating and trashing this beautiful gem literally 😢❤

wow, I used to live in Prague, but it was like 15yrs ago and those prices are really something else, I dont remember it was already so expensive few years back when Ive been there last time for more than few days, I guess its the covid and this inflation fun were going thru now that is mostly to blame for this upswing.

Kutna Hora was cheaper. Average beer cost was about $1.35 USD compared to Prague about $3-$4 USD for 0.5L. A 10-15 minute Uber ride cost about $7 USD. That's easily $20 in ripoff usa. Overall, probably still more affordable than anywhere in the usa, the land where you're underappreciated, expendable, and overworked.

Prague is Cheap compared to London. I was in London from September 8-15 2019 and I spent $6,000. These includes Hotel Foods and Tours. So Expensive.

Nothing anywhere is cheap anymore and never will be again. Accept that reality and plan for it. Maybe get out of bed before noon and get a job and save up for six months or a year lazy offs. It wont let me type the abusive word I want but you get what i wanted to say!
