I think we start playing union or league at a young age and we learn head position in a tackle, what contact we can absorb and the best angles to take down an advancing player. Depending on the sport we play in our formative years our physical development and muscle memory will always be there...its like when you watch a hit on tv your shoulder moves or a boxing match on tv and you slip the punch at home lol

Your reaction to this was golden guys.. I played rugby all through my school years.. Injuries were just painfully part of the game.. Cuts got stitched up when needed and you went back on.. I also broke my nose, jaw, 6 ribs and my leg,, that's along with being knocked out,, and the concussions.. And that was in my school years.. In my day you left high school at 16 years old.. You’ve developed a totally warped picture of what rugby is. How can you condemn rugby as a whole as “barbaric” and “animalistic” when you’ve watched merely a compilation of individual instances/hits and not a whole game...? Learn and understand rugby before you make an *informed* decision on it. As it is, your judgement is *ill-informed*. You’ve watched a compilation of hits from dozens of *different* games and probably over months or years. It’s not a million hits in *one* game. Rugby is not like that all the way through... it’s not the purpose of the sport to intentionally injure people.

I'm a huge NFL fan since it came on TV in the UK since '83 and I'll argue with my rugby mates how hard the NFL is, but in all honesty rugby is a tougher sport and they don't get to go off the field, that is full-on non-stop apart from 1/2 time for 80 minutes. So they are fitter.

The sport is actually a stamina contest more than a big hits thing. One player in rugby league might do 20 carries of the ball into the opposition and think the record for our league is about 90 tackles in one game. But 60 is normal. You'll run about 12 miles in 1hr 20mins of play with only a half time too. Playing the sport since I was a kid got a few scars etc sure but being desperate for breathe was the most memorable part.

I dated a rugby player and he often got injuries to his face, even once a completely broken nose that he set himself after leaving the field briefly. He once broke 4 of his ribs and had to be hospitalised but he was back playing 3 weeks later, and in the meantime he never missed a practice session, obviously going against the doctor's orders.

When you said he hit him when he was already on the ground - play does not stop if you go down or once the tackle is made, they just keep going and he could have gotten back up so 🤷‍♀️

As an Aussie, all I can say is this is why the Anzac legend is what it is, fearless, tough, hard as nails and that's just the ref, the fucking players are next level monster.

It's great game!! the adrenaline rush before and during the game is something else you get hooked, the thought of running into someone, tackle or being tackle gets the blood pumping it's very primal...lol. When you get injured you wish to heal up quickly and get back into the game, Injuries is not that common just mostly a few bruises. Anyway most who play rugby are introduced to it at very very young age. Rugby was introduced to me by dad around the age of 4 that's what I remember or might be earlier..lol, I guess it's normal here in South Pacific region. Injuries yes a few.
