Down to earth, original thoughts, great content that explains a lot of the reasons turkey hunting is an obsession. Calling with a response, that creates the interaction you live for, once you've obtained success. Continue your way young man, I love every piece of info you can throw out. Thanks

fantastic! I learned sooooo much. I've got 3 mouth calls and two box calls. I was able to convince two Toms to come check me out by both loud and soft calling , then being quite and not calling for minutes on end. They came from 160 yards to within 22 and the party was over for Mr. Big. Thanks Micheal!!!

Thank you so much for teaching wannabes like myself the art of calling a Turkey. You are now my favorite master of this art form.

Have had an Old Ben Lee Twin Hen since 1989. Many paddle calls were bought since then but that Twin Hen goes in the vest every season. The others all get handed down to newbies or youngsters to practice. I love my Feather Ridge diaphragms but something about the sweet-talking of that box makes me feel "hey man Im in the Turkey Woods again" keep up the vids and good luck in the Turkey Woods Michael!

I agree and love all the advice shared here. I think the most valuable teacher is experience in the woods. Spend enough time up close to birds and around them and you will pick up on several small details that can make you successful. One thing I dont think was mentioned but has value too is learning a Jake yelp too. Had a handful of stubborn birds break when I incorporated that sound when other strategies werent working.

I've already left one comment. But i have to leave another one. I have to say this is the best turkey calling video I've ever seen/heard. I probly take my turkey hunting more serious than any human on earth. That being said. You can tell a vetren hunter like yourself. Because you explain it exactly like I've seen and heard my whole life. You explain it perfect. I've located nuts with calls. And I've d questioned myself is that a dude on a box call! You can tell a non experience hunter. But it's hard to tell the difference between a good caller. Michael this was a great video. I've been watching realtree since the early 90's and i can actuly say this is one of my favorite videos I've ever seen you do. Good luck buddy. Stay safe.

Just wanna day thank you for posting this video, today was my 2nd time ever turkey hunting (well hunting in general) yesterday was my first. But I've been watching this video religiously, and it helped me call in 2 birds, wasn't able to get any of them because someone's dog barked about 150 yards away and made them run. But it was so cool to watch and gear them actually respond to my calls that I've been practicing watching this video. Every day on the way to and from work I work on my mouth call, while at the house I work on my pot and box. I felt like my pot call sounded the best and actually talk to a gobbler, I was right, and I just have to stop by to say thank you for helping me get into the wonderful world of turkey hunting. Marked the spot on my ONx, so hopefully next time I get me a bird, but nonetheless I'm gon a have a great time out in the woods. And I have to give credit where credit is due.

I've grown up watching you and the guys since I was a little kid, been turkey hunting since I was 6 or 7 going with my dad. Always had a love for it and always a pleasure seeing you guys succeed. I would never consider myself even a great turkey hunter and I'm sure it's been said before but I've often found sometimes the best thing to do is shut up on the call. Just like Michael is saying about being in tune with what the gobbler wants, if he's not immediately answering you, keep waiting longer and longer in between calling back to him. Get to the point you're not calling for 10, 15 sometimes even 20 minutes. Wait for him to gobble on his own wondering where you're at and if you're still coming, when he does that throw him some soft yelps and then shut up some more. It drives them crazy, they're either gonna come in or finally mozy on off but a lot of times they come in. This applies mainly to gobblers on their own, if they're henned up its just hard. I hope this helps if anybody made it this far haha

Awesome video! You did forget one of my favorite calls. The tube call. It's a tough call to master, but once you do, you can make every call known to turkeys. I've brought in tons of hung up Tom's by gobbling like a Jake on a tube call. A couple yelps on a slate or box followed by a choppy gobble on the tube is deadly! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and happy hunting. 🦃

@Josh Bastardly I stopped all hunting pretty much once I got to high school. Sports took up most of my time. Then I started coaching two sports. Football and wrestling took up a majority of my time. About six years ago, my dad asked me to go to Texas on a whitetail hunt. I went, got blessed to take my biggest (by far) buck. I was hooked again, and went down the archery rabbit hole. Now I’m only coaching wrestling and have a lot more time. Picked up an old box call I’d been given, with a note from the maker wishing luck with the call on the bottom that I had never noticed before. I started practicing that night. I’ve spent more time in the woods this year that I ever have, and could feel more at home even without success. Just great to be out in our Creator’s creation.

I found hone in on what works best then expand. Just a quick funny story about box call. Heard a “hunter” using what I thought was a box call very poorly. Half hour later as “they” came closer and about to howler out to them I’m here. It’s a small hen evidently lost looking for other hens lol!

Good information Michael , as a hunter especially if you want to be successful you need to always be humble and willing to always learn stuff from different hunters because even if they are a pro hunter they don’t know it all you have to be willing to listen and learn from different hunters. And I think the best way to learn how to hunt turkeys is not people but getting out in the woods and listening and watching wild turkeys and watching and learning their behavior that is the best teacher you can have is the Wild Turkeys themselves.

I loved the way you explained turkey talk . When I'm in the woods I become a turkey . First a turkey walks on 2 legs so I don't worry about making noise. I kick leaves purr and cut and if the gobber hung up I get up and walk away kick leaves yelping and cutting lightly. That will normally get his interest. I love putting him to roost and give him a batwing so he's looking my way first thing in the morning but you had better be ready when you hit him with that batwing and a fly down cackle call he's libel to laid in your lap . Well I been making hand made turkey calls for a few years now and maybe one day you'll hear me calling that old tom away from you .Well good luck and safe hunting
