The Audio Journey

Күн бұрын

If you want to be able to record your vocals, guitar or any other instrument, you need to know the basics of recording audio to a high standard. As long as you have good clear recordings to work with, you will then be able to mix and master your audio to sound great, without needing a professional studio at all.
I’m going to take you through the very basics of recording using Reaper (www.reaper.fm/..., which you can evaluate for a period of time before buying it, using all of it’s features for free during this time. This saves you from buying an expensive piece of software, just to find out that you don’t need all of it’s advanced features.

FYI for anyone wondering about the 'input' on the track - on my version of Reaper it doesn't show until you click on the red button with the white circle to the left. This "arms" the track and then brings up the dropdown to click on (input: mono, input: stereo, input: MIDI, input: none).

Thanks, man. My recording journey has begun before I turn 50, and you have helped with it. Don't worry about your guitar skills - we all criticize ourselves in that area... such an easy-to-learn instrument, and yet so hard to master.

Thank you for the simple and concise video that is truly directed to the beginner. There are way to many videographers out there that remind me of my math teacher. To them it's easy, so they just rush through figuring that you understand a lot of what's being taught already. I don't, that's the definition of a beginner! Looking forward to checking out more of your videos!

So awesome 👍 Thank you. I have finally placed an order for the Indian version of the cheapest audio interface available on the planet, the Teyun q12. In our India, it is called SRK something something. So, in preparation for it's arrival I'm watching your tutorial and I feel it has armed with with enough to make the first few trials real fun in a meaningful manner 😃so, thanks. Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎄

You left out the part where you have to download the FX separately and tell Reaper in which folder to retrieve them from. Also, said free FX have an amp and IR loader built in...it's not fancy, but it's free. There's also lots of free amp sims like DjentGod. I do like the idea of recording the clean un-edited guitar track first, and then adding the FX to that post recording. I prefer the mic'd amp rather than the sims because of the latency...OMG the latency! Haha From each tutorial I grow in knowledge, and I grew some from watching yours, too. I subscribed, and look forward to learning more stuff. -=80)

Other tutorials on here led me to select Reaper as my DAW, but yours is the first that actually showed me how to record tracks, as a totally inexperienced user. One simple question comes to mind that many reading here might wish to know: Can I use my digital effects pedal between my guitar and my recording interface, rather than using the plug-in effects? I am using a Behringer UM202-HD, which is very similar to the Focusrite in this video.

Hello Mr Holt… I enjoyed your reaper tutorial. ….. Would you have any experience with thunderbolt connections… I had a new machine built with thunderbolt three and four input connectors ,in the back….. My focusrite clarett is fairly old (2015) and clearly has a thunderbolt one and two output…. I downloaded thunderbolt three and four drivers for this new machine….. I cannot get any channel input on the meter…. Do you suppose I need to erase the drivers for three and four and download ones for one and two ?….thanks for your time, Pete K.
