Reapply & Duplicate Transforms (+ FIX for Mac/Linux) in Inkscape 1.3

In Inkscape 1.3, we have the ability to easily repeat transformations (scaling, rotating, translating, skewing) on the same objects or duplicates of them, similar to Adobe Illustrator. However, the default keyboard shortcuts for the functions don't currently work on Max or Linux, so we'll first see how to fix that.

On Mac, you might have to go to Inkscape -> Settings to get to the Preferences Dialog.

Changed the shortcuts to ctrl-2 and ctrl-3 and now it is working, thanks.

This is a very handy feature that Illustrator has always had. I didn't realise you could repeat a transformation on a different object. Great to finally see the repeat transformation feature in Inkscape. I appreciate your method for rotating copies of a small star around a bigger one, though I prefer just moving the centre of rotation of the small star to the centre of the larger one, then transforming and repeating using Ctrl Alt D. Thanks again for an excellent video.

I've used the rotation center method in previous videos, so I decided to show a method that doesn't require messing with the snap controls, which is really only possible with the new reapply functions. But yeah, I definitely still prefer the other method as well!

Great! how do you do multiple transformations at the same time, eg: "the star" reduce the scale and rotate the angle and translate it? also anything on blending?eg: a square to a triangle and specify say 20 intermediate blends? thank you

Hi Brandon, very good tut, as usual. I've just tried to buy your inkscape combo but payment was refused. I'm in France and am using a virtual credit card number for security purposes. Maybe that's why it didn't work. I also want to know whether these courses show the same tuts we see on your youtube channel or different. Anyway, always looking forward to your next video.🙏👏👍

Are you using Inkscape 1.3 (it was released last month)?

@@SweaterCatDesigns Yes, inkscape 1.3 on windows 10. I can see the keyboard shortcuts in preferences, but they do nothing.

@@SweaterCatDesigns It now works. I changed the shortcuts, to ctrl+2 and ctrl+3 like @ante-tl3dl below. The problem may be my new Logitech MX Mechanical keyboard, which connects to multiple devices with different operating systems. Combining keys with modifiers does not always work as I expect. For instance: in inkscape Shift+Control+Alt+S does nothing for me, but should save a copy.

Sadly still not working smoothly with me. It seems there is one step i’m missing. When I do (Ctrl+Alt+D) no duplication happens unless I click space bar to stamp it. You didn’t mention space bar, do you do any extra step you haven’t mentioned? Also the final result looks different especially when you drew a rectangle and you made the stars rotate around it. Mine stars and not going around the middle shape. do you press (Ctrl+Alt+D) with left hand while clicking on rotating arrow and drag with the right hand? I’m definitely missing a step! I’m using windows and I checked preference my settings same as yours (Inkscape default)

Make sure you have the object selected and that you're not pressing any of the mouse buttons. You do the first rotation by clicking and dragging a rotation handle with the left mouse button. After that, you don't need the mouse at all; you just have to do Ctrl + Alt + D(or T).
