Thank you for the video! ....i did the change of the seal a couple of times on my 57. Unfortunately my crankshaft is not perfectly polished so the Rubber seems to hold just about 2000 km till it starts leaking again. On my 57, there was not need to disconnect the steering. You can rotate the oil pan and get it out out with the steerink link attached. Just remember to pull the dipstik before, because it reaches into the oil pan and gets in the way.

Wow I tried it and it works great. I watched the video a couple of times to get a list of tools because i did mine on jack stands.

I just watched a you tube of this done off the car by John Mummert who installed the pins on the block side where the side seal had a groove for the pin. It appears you can put in the side seal in either direction as long as you put the pin in the groove. I’ve had my pan off 2 times and a flabbergasted on how your engine didn’t have a hint of oil from ever being run.

There are tricks to repair the leak without replacing the top half and I have done it with success.

Wondering if you had to replace the studs on the new cap using the old studs. Kit I ordered is missing the studs, I see what looks like blue (or similar) loctite on the studs. Did you guys transfer those from the original cap or did they come new? Thanks, very very helpful video for the home garage mechanic.

I have a '58 F350 with a 292. Do they make a kit for the 292? I don't like the idea of hand fitting the steel pins for the side seals. Would copper wire work ?

I cant get my upper rope seal to come out any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey Nathaniel did you ever get it out? I saw posted somewhere on y block forums that if you can find a small enoigh spring puch you can feed it in and slowly push the rope seal out until you can get needle nose pliers on it and pull it the rest of the way. You must remove all the mains caps first as any pressure on that rope seal wont let it come out.
