Ken Hill's podcast on ergonomics - MOST riders have rearsets set up too high! I was putting too much force into my knee thigh area during hang off. I lowered them, and my thigh locks in MUCH better! Rearsets already raise the position compared to stock pegs so DO NOT GO CRAZY thinking you have to max them out!

It is very important to find correct setup! I found I have hard time relax my upper body on track since the rearset was set one hole back. After adjustment, it became so much easy for my body and hand!

I was never able to get a good lock with my outside leg by having my toes on the pegs. When I started hooking the heel of my outside boot on the peg, I could instantly feel weight being removed from my arms in the corners. So, I hook the heel of my outside boot on the peg and press the boot tight against the heel plate/rear set all while locking my lower portion of my thigh around the knee area into the tank (sit back in the seat to lock in the tank properly). Works for me.

I position my leg/foot the way his video explained, but I've seen other riders and another video do it the way you just mentioned with the bottom sole/heel portion of the shoe hooking onto the peg. I've yet to try it, but curious on the feel.

I believe it's a preference thing. I've tried both and preferred the method in the video. Your method is probably used by the majority though, I'd say.

Like the vids - here's an idea to go with foot rest set up: Cockpit setup. I've noticed different sports bikes (like the Panigale's) seem to have wide setup bars compared to my Daytona 675. I've got adjustable clip-ons on the bike now & have set them wider than standard but not tested the effect yet. Should the position of your rearsets also take the bar position into account as well?

Always great content. I'm looking forward to next season: going to ride my 2003 zx9r more on the track. A zx9r is not the best track bike, but that's fine i love it and just want to learn how to properly feel riding that particular bike. The footpegs aren't adjustable and since zx9r is more of a road bike have rubber on them for dampening vibrations. Perhaps this will be something i need to change, but i just need to experience it first I guess. For my (lack of) skill they'll do fine for starters i think. Do you have any good tips on type of footpegs? Brands that feel grippy to you and that are reliable, and full metal i suppose?

Good advice! I just installed aftermarket rearsets on my 390 Duke and I was planning on loctiting all the screws. But now I think I'll leave them be for now, so I can adjust them properly. ;)

A good point to mention is buying the rearsets first, finding the right position and THEN buy a quickshifter. Having a quickshifter before means adjusting/replacing the shift rod and every single time the foot position is adjusted. I found that extremely frustrating.

"After market rear sets allow you to set them higher, and in a more comfortable position". Balls, i looked this video up to see how to lower mine to make them more comfortable! My legs feel a bit cramped and i find after a half hour or an hour i need to stretch them out a bit. I'll if they are in the lowest furthers back position or not and if not, move them.

I got a Hayabusa and lowered the pegs 1.5" (40mm.) I still don't have enough room. Can rearsets give me more space to unfold my legs? I don't race; I just ride around. Thanks for the video.

I've always wondered if moving both the shift lever and foot pegs back wouldn't be more comfortable and provide same or better clearance for cornering. This way the left foot doesn't have to transition between shifting position and cornering position. I only had stock rearsets on my CBR 954 when I did track days and never found them to be in the right position (even if they had been adjustable after market ones).

I'm not sure I follow. Do you mean pushing the peg back and having your heel on the peg at all times?

I have a hard time getting my toes under the shifter when I wear boots. I got rearsets so I could shift gears without having to move my foot into extreme positions. I have other things to focus on.

Quick question: I’m relatively new to riding and I’m 6’1 with a size 12 foot. The boots I have are so massive which makes it a struggle to get my foot under the gear lever, would aftermarket rear sets combat this and how would that help?

The only benefit in that instance is comfort. If you're ok with your current setup then I'd say save your money.

I was curious on what kind of rear sets you had on that bike (I saw you no longer have it). I like vortex, woodcraft, etc but right now due to limited budget, I'm steering towards something cheaper like neverland, CNC, etc

Check out Troy Corser's video on body positioning. He feels locking in with your heal and not the ball of your foot is superior. I agree it works better for me and allows the leg to rotate out naturally.
