I did the exact same job on a 2001 Honda Odyssey 6 years ago. Pain in the butt, but well worth it. I had my camera running to a radio head unit.

Oh wow, Honda Odyssey. Imagine that must’ve been a tight fit and the body panels are a challenge for ya too.

@@RussShawTV we were able to make it work. I also did the same job on a 2002 Kia Optima I had. That Optima is the reason I found your channel. I was tring to figure out the best way to get at the alternator. Your video had the best explanation.

That’s a bit of a newer vehicle, but I think the technicals are still the same. I’ve taken apart door panels (in this case, the rear door panel.) of vehicles as new as 2022 back in 2021. Door panels tend to come apart of the same as they did. 2030 years ago. I think this video would work for that vehicle as well.

@@RussShawTV much rather splice in a 3' cable than run a 30' set under all the side panels and up behind the dash.

@@bw905 It’s a lot easier to contend with excess cable then it is to splice a video cable. I would not advise trying to splice that cable. It’s easy to punch up the cable and hide it discreetly inside of the door panel or like I did in the video.

Awesome video! This gives me a great plan of attack on my 07 grand caravan this weekend. Have you had any issues with water getting into the reverse light wire?

No, haven’t had any issues. Back up camera still works great and it’s been a few years since I did this I believe. And I live here in the Seattle area where it rains a lot. Drizzly pissy rain for months on end and things don’t really dry out here that much. 👍🌧️🌦️

Update: I was able to install the backup camera and monitor in around 3 hours thanks to this video. When I tested everything after install, everything worked like a charm. Huge thanks again for not only the video, but answering question that may seem trivial to some.

the van didn't have to be running, key on, put in reverse.

How exactly did you connect the red wire to the reverse wire? Did you cut the reverse wire in half and then just put all 3 ends together which was then crimped? I feel like that may not be the correct way but then again this is my first time doing this so i could be wrong.

It was sometime ago when I recorded this. But I believe that’s right. You cut the power to the reverse light so you can splice into it for the power for the rearview camera. That’s the only way I know how to splice into it.

@@deldante I used crimpable butt connectors. You may need to go back and watch the video. 21:27 I’m I showed what kind of crimpers and wire crimps I used (blue). And I used heat shrink wrap over the crimp. It’s important to watch the video all the way through before attempting by the way.
