The proofreaders are embarrassed😂But I definitely understand Jake tho, but I think they use "the" instead of "this" since it was directly based off of the original and there was no(?) narrator on the book Jake was reading. That would've cleared his confusion if the narrator was there😂

no but jake is completely right, especially since it was a quote and the flower is close to the speaker and they’re talking about it they would say “this flower” but if it was the narrator and the narrator wasn’t involved in the story it would make more sense to say “the flower” since the narrator isn’t actually there.
